Obituary:
Death of Mrs. H. Van Vreede Mrs. Henry Van Vreede passed away at her home on the west side on Sund ay evening at 9:30 after an illness of only a few days. Mary Aerts was bo rn in the town of Holland on January 1, 1859, and passed away on her birth day anniversary, having attained the age of 69 years. On June 10, 1869 (no te from me--a mistake? she would have been only 10 years old in 1869), s he was married to Henry Van Vreede at Hollandtown, and their union was ble ssed with nine children, four boys, J. H. Van Vreede, Bert Van Vreede, The odore Van Vreede and Antone Van Vreede, and five daughters, Anna (Mr s. B. Rolf), and Nell (Mrs. Theo. Gerrits) of Hollandtown, Hattie (Mr s. P. Berken) of this place, Catherine (Mrs. L. Hennessey) of Madison, a nd Mathilda (Mrs. Henry Biese) of Kaukauna, who with her husband survive h er besides two sisters, Mrs. John L. De Bruin and Mrs. Hattie Vanden E ng of Kaukauna, and forty-one grandchildren. The funeral was held from S t. Paul's Catholic church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. A. L. Buya ert officiating. Interment was at the local Catholic cemetery. The Christi an Mothers' society, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body. T he floral and spiritual bouquets were many and beautiful. The pall beare rs were six grandsons of the deceased, Lawrence, Bernard, and Clarence Rol f, Norbert Van Vreede, Aloys Van Vreede, and Lawrence Aerts.

John H. VanVreede Sr. 261 S. Willow St., Kimberly Age 84, passed away 5:00 a.m. Friday morning after a short illness. He was born in Hollandtown, October 23, 1882. Mr. Van- Vreede operated the VanVreede Plumbing in Kimberly for ten years and retired in 1956. He was a charter member of the Wrightstown Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) VandenBoogard of Kimberly; four sons, Norbert in New Jersey; Cyril of Menasha; Cletus of Illinois; John Jr. of Kimberly; two brothers, Bert of Kimberly; Theodore of Appleton; five sisters, Mrs. Ann Rolf of DePere; Mrs. Ted Gerrits of Sheboygan; Mrs. Kate Tennessey of Kimberly; Mrs. Peter Berken of Wrightstown; Mrs. Henry Biese of Kaukauna; fifteen grandchildren. Friends may call at the Jansen Funeral Home, Kimberly, after 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Kaukauna, WisconsinAge 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Cherry Meadows Hospi ce in Appleton. Ben was born in the town of Buchanan on the DeBruin Homest ead November 19, 1915, son of the late Henry and Henrietta DeBruin. On Ju ly 26, 1938, he married the former Bernetta Schydzik at St. Mary's Cathol ic Church in Kaukauna where they have been faithful lifelong members. B en and Bernetta observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988 by renewi ng their vows at St. Mary's, and last July they joyfully celebrated with f amily their 63rd year of marriage. For nearly 42 years, Ben worked as a cr ane operator in the woodyard at Thilmany Pulp and Paper where he was a lon gtime member of Union Local #147. Many will remember him as an avid garden er, who enjoyed sharing his annual harvest with family and friends. Ben 's gardening skills were highlighted with his famous Horseradish Recipe, w hich has been passed on to the next younger generation. Ben also enjoyed b us trips, playing cards, hunting, fishing, designing fishing lures, and bu ilding ice-fishing tip-ups. He was especially proud of his one-handed fish -line-tying device, which allows fishermen to attach lures and hooks usi ng only one hand. He harvested hickory nuts and wiled away many winter nig hts shucking, cracking, and picking them. Those nuts that did not e nd up in Bernetta's baking creations were given away to friends and relati ves. Ben was a great collector and found a place in his garage to store an ything of value-and it's still there. He enjoyed time spent kibitzing t he family homestead farm with brother Joe and nephew Don DeBruin. For t he last 10 years, the highlight of Ben's and Bernetta's enjoyment was ti me spent with friends at the Appleton Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitati on program. In his later years, Ben thoroughly enjoyed the company of h is six great grandchildren. At the age of 82, Ben, along with his wife Ber netta, took their first airplane ride to observe granddaughter Denise's ma rriage in Orlando, Florida.Ben is survived by his wife of 63 years: Bernetta DeBruin of Kaukauna; t wo sons Bob (Rita) DeBruin of Kaukauna, and Dennis (Debbie) DeBruin of Men asha; three grandchildren of whom he thought the world: Beth (Mark) Spec ht of Kaukauna; Tim (Sarah) DeBruin of Appleton; and Denise (Jay) Hatch er of Orlando, Florida; six great grandchildren: Nicole and Ben Specht, a nd William, Tristan, Olivia, and Emelyne DeBruin; a sister: Germaine (Loui s) Wyngaard of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: Ed Schug of Sheboygan; a speci al nephew: Don DeBruin of Kaukauna, who offered so much assistance to t he family in recent times; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other rela tives, and friends. Germaine M. Wyngaard "Gerry," age 89, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 at American Grand. She was born, January 17, 1921, on the DeBruin homestead farm located on DeBruin in Kaukauna, to the late Henry and Henrietta (DeBruin) DeBruin. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Kaukauna graduating from Kaukauna High School. She worked at Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Kimberly for 5 years where she met her husband Louis to whom she was proudly married to for 53 years. She was a breast cancer survivor. Gerry ran an out of home income tax business and was a Queen of Peace choir member. She was a deer hunter with a number of trophies to prove her excellent marksmanship. Gerry enjoyed escaping to their place "Up North" for campfires, fishing trips, and walks around the circle. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her well organized get-togethers molded us into a close family unit. Gerry's six children will forever treasure the love, strength, and wisdom she bestowed on each of them as individuals. She cherished the time she could spend with Dad escaping to their place "Up North" for relaxation and time to be in the outdoors. Gerry's most treasured memories came from her deer hunting adventures with Dad (Louis) and the time she could spend with him on special vacations and trips.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Wyngaard, Kaukauna, Donna (Jim) Wentzel, Chilton, Patty Wyngaard, Colorado, Dave (Sandy) Wyngaard, Sobieski, Warren (special friend Shannon) Wyngaard, Forest Junction, Wayne (Shawn) Wyngaard, Little Chute; six grandchildren: Sam (Jamie) Wentzel and Aaron Wentzel, Stephanie (Bryon) Ullmer, Matthew (Danielle) Wyngaard, Jennifer Wyngaard and Becky (Jason) Arnoldussen.

Robert A. Promer Sr., 86, Kaukauna, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at the Appleton Medical Center. He was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Kaukauna, to Herman and Mary (DeBruin) Promer, attended Holy Cross School, and lived in Kaukauna his entire life. On May 8, 1941, he married the former Ethel Gussert. Together they raised three sons and two daughters. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II at the Great Lakes Naval base in Waukegan, Illinois, and then was moved to Treasure Island where he was deployed to Australia. He was recently recognized for fifty-four continuous years as a member of the Kaukauna American Legion Post #41 and was a lifetime member of the Electric City VFW Post #3319. Bob was also a life member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Cross Catholic Church. Bob spent many days watching the eagles at 1000 Islands Environmental Center and was lifetime member of the Center, as well as being a member of the Kaukauna Moose Lodge. Bob was one of the first drywall contractors in the Valley, and he and Ethel are the owners of the Promer Village Apartments in Kaukauna. He was well known in Kaukauna for his many jokes, keen wit, and his political viewpoints. He loved to make people laugh, enjoyed fishing, and hunting with his sons and grandsons. In his younger years, he was an avid bowlers, and never forgot his buddies who bowled together for over thirty years at Reynebeau's Lanes in Little Chute.
He is survived by wife, Ethel; children Donald (Rachel) Promer, Appleton; Dick (Jean) Promer, Bob (Jane) Promer, Mary (Dan) Biesterveld, all of Kaukauna, and Marlene Tennessen and her friend Gene Kostrzak, Readfield; grandchildren, Lisa (Glen) Kolarik, Jeff (Tricia) Promer, Rick Promer, Stacy (Steve) Hlinak, Brian Van Asten, Chad Promer, Ray (Vicki) Van Asten, Scott (Kim) Tennessen, Jim (Liz) Promer, Lynn (Mike) Ramel, Cory Promer, and Shawn (Amy) Promer; Diane (Andy) Huebner, Duane Biesterveld, Dana (Alex) Parker, Andrea Jungwirth, and Jodi (Ken) VanMaastricht; his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Nathan, Gabe, Jennifer, Tyler, Hunter, Cody, Brock, Macy, Natalie, Lexus, Alexander, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Tia, Ty, and Trey, who were the apples of his eye; two brothers, Art Promer, Bellflower, California and Ray (Vi) Promer, Montague, Michigan; a sister-in-law: Florence Gussert Jansen, Kaukauna, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Promer, Draper Street, Kaukauna from the war department of the death of their son, Private Herman Promer, Jr., 19. He was killed in action on D-Day June 6, in France. Private Promer served with the paratroopers, enlisted in the service February 19, 1943.

Obituary:
Funeral services will be held this morning at 9:30 at Holy Cross church for Private Herman Promer who was killed in action in the Normandy invasion. The remains of Private Promer arrived in Kaukauna Monday morning and was met by the combined VFW and American Legion firing squad, color bearers and other servicemen of the city. Promer was killed in France in 1944 when he was serving as a member of the 508 Parachute Infantry of the 82 Airborne division. He had been interned in a temporary military cemetery in France and was returned to this country at the request of his parents.

Was first buried in France, then brought to the US and buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna in may 1948 at the request of his parents.

Rosemary married the late Raymond Hackel June 10, 1941. Their marriage began in Texas while Ray was in the service. Rosemary worked at the Outpost as a waitress, later in the ammunitions department in Washington, until moving back to Wisconsin to purchase the Hackel farm in Isaar. There they raised six children.
Rosemary enjoyed farming and many years of driving school bus for Huettl's Transfer. She was the bus driver that took you back home if you forgot something. She was an active member of St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in Isaar.
Rosemary loved to live life. She will be remembered for her prize-winning Halloween costumes she made for her children, her love of a good party and a great game of sheepshead. Her motto was: Eat dessert first, Life is uncertain.
Rosemary loved her children and extended family and dedicated her life to them. Rosemary is survived by her children: Ronald (Sally) Hackel, Green Bay; Judith (Dennis) O'Boyle, Milwaukee; Susan (Jafar) Manselle, Boston; Debra (Gary) Gostas, Neenah, Don Jorgenson, McFarland; Patti Hackel, Appleton; her eight grandchildren: Dawn (Mark) Tunkel, Denny (Jenny) Hackel, Ashley (Rob) Hackel, Kaya and Trevor Manselle, Johanna Jorgenson, Jackson and Davis Gostas; four great-grandchildren: Amanda and Mason Tunkel, Ted and David Hackel.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Hackel; her eight siblings; and all of her brother and sister in-laws.

Van Daalwyk, Eunice (Van Den Eng) Eunice Mae Van Daalwyk, age 86, a resident of Kimberly died peacefully on September 29, 2015 with her family by her side. Eunice was born on October 3, 1928 in Freedom to Peter J. and Elizabeth (Brooks) Van Den Eng. She married Robert W. Van Daalwyk at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom on October 9, 1948. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
Eunice graduated from Freedom High School in 1947. A year before she graduated she was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital where she worked as a nurses aid before returning to high school and now at almost 87, she passed peacefully at St. Elizabeth. She told her children many stories of her time at St. E's. She had a very full life with her large family and many friends. Her home was always open to visitors. Eunice loved people and they loved her. Euny was known for her faith and sense of humor. Her children can attest to what a loving mother, devoted wife and great cook she was. Always on the go with her various activities whether it be playing Sheepshead, Bunco, or taking care of a friend - she lived every day to the fullest.
Eunice lived in Kimberly for 37 years with her husband, Bob. Together they built their retirement home on Lake Noquebay and moved there in 1985 and wintered in Arizona. Her children remember all the good times at the cottage. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Crivitz. Bob passed away on March 26, 2007. Eunice then moved back to Kimberly and belonged to Holy Spirit Parish.
Survivors are her daughters: Diane (Jim) Carpenter of Crivitz, Lori (Al) Verkuylen of Greenville, Lisa (Joe DeBruin) Sutta of Little Chute; sons: Dennis R. (Jane) Van Daalwyk of Menasha and Hollywood Beach, California, William P. (Cheri) Van Daalwyk of New Berlin, Robert J. (Hua Zhao) Van Daalwyk of Madison, Lee Van Daalwyk of Lake Havasua City, Arizona; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her siblings: Joy (Roy) Van Dyke, Marvin Van Den Eng, Floyd (Joan) Van Den Eng, Clarence (Millie) Van Den Eng, Ronald (Jenny Rice) Van Den Eng; sister-in-law, Kenice Van Den Eng; brother-in-law, Clarence Gerrits. She was bo rn Dec. 18, 1930, in Freedom, Wis., daughter of the late Peter and Elizabe th (Brooks) Van Den Eng. On May 13, 1950, she married Clarence “Whitey” Ge rrits. They spent 54 years of marriage together. Ev was known for her hone sty and her love for everyone. She loved spending time with her grandchild ren and a great grandson. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and gr eat grandma. She will be sadly missed by all. Ev graduated from Freedom Hi gh School, Class of 1949. After graduation, she worked for Thilmany Pu lp & Paper in Kaukauna. She was a waitress for many supper clubs in the va lley and for the last few years, she was a tour hostess for different b us companies. She loved working with her special friend, Pat Bacon, for t he Freedom Alumni. She loved spending time at the cabin in Pembine, Wi s. Ev was a life member of the Kaukauna Lady Elks, Lodge No. 962. In her e arly years, she enjoyed golfing but most of all she lived for playing car ds and bingo at Oneida! She was known for her beautiful oil painting s. Eugene (Gene) V. Van Den Eng, 80, of Punta Gorda, FL and Kimberly, WI. He was born February, 11, 1933 in Freedom, WI, son of the late Peter J. and Elizabeth H. (nee Brooks) Van Den Eng. He married Kenice A. Munn on May 24, 1968 in Clovis, New Mexico. Gene served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, he went in April 13 1951 at the age of 18, was a Korean War Vet May 53-May 54 and a Vietnam War Vet Dec 69-Dec 1970. He had two tours in Europe, France and England. Gene was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California for seven years where he was in Missiles. He played golf for the USAF and won several trophies. Gene retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force in February 1972, and with his wife Kenice and three year old son, Peter, he moved to Port Charlotte, Fl. There he embarked on a new career in real estate and in 1980 opened Van Den Eng Realty, Inc., which is still in existence. Gene's love was construction and building spec houses and real estate investing

Obituary:
Marvin Van Den Eng, 81, of Freedom, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at home with his family by his side. He was born on February 8, 1935, son of Peter and Elizabeth (Brooks) Van Den Eng.
Marv married Roberta Jacob on March 14, 1970. She brought her five children with her to join the family with his son from a previous marriage to Marlene Weyenberg. On December 24, 1971, Marv and Roberta had a son to make the family complete.
Marv retired from the Atlas Mill in Appleton at the age of 55. He then dedicated his like to the one thing he truly loved…auctions. He started Van Den Eng and Sons Scrap Iron, which helped him support his seven children and his wife's love of rummage sales. Marv loved auctions and loved all the people he met there, he considered them a large auction family. One of his favorite auctions was the Amish auction in Neillsville.
On Sundays he enjoyed going to the Appleton Apostolic Truth Church where he was a greeter and usher. He was known to everyone at church as the "Candy Man." Marv always had tootsie rolls in his pockets for all the kids. He also helped with the food pantry. Everyone at church knew if they needed help, just call Marv.
His special love was his grandchildren, whom he loved to have sit on his lap and of course, give candy.
