    Obituary:
Alice Reed, age 79, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27th. Alice was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on May 27th 1931, to David and Elizabeth (Brouillard) Cleveland. Alice married Raymond Maas in 1947, in Appleton, where together they raised six children.
In 1978, Alice married John Reed and they spent 32 wonderful years together. Alice was a woman of many talents. She had a beautiful singing voice, painted, quilted, knitted and crocheted. Her energy and creativity was boundless. Among other things, she owned a photography studio, and had careers in insurance underwriting and real estate. Her lifelong passion, however, was writing. At age eleven Alice promised herself that when she grew up she would write books. She wrote: "But when I got big, I had to care for my family. I worked three part time jobs in order to feed my six energetic kids and somewhere along the way, I inadvertently invented Women's Lib. Anyone growing up during the Depression never questioned that survival often meant dreams had to be set aside to take care of the family with no time to waste on regrets. At the end of the day, during the short time between climbing in bed and falling asleep, the promise I had made to myself when I was eleven years old would surface and I'd tell myself, 'Maybe next year.'" Alice eventually kept the promise she had made to herself, and published her first novel, "Oolong Tea at 10:30," in 2007, upon winning an International New Writer's competition. Her second novel, "Counting Stars Along the Way," is in the process of being published. Truly a remarkable woman with many accomplishments, Alice's greatest accomplishment was the joy and love that she gave to family and friends. Nobody had a zest for life like Alice did!
Alice is survived by her husband, John Reed. She is also survived by her six children: Dick (Jeani) Maas, Diane (Gary) Shebilske, Donna Andrews (special friend Mike Tokos), Joe Maas, Steve Maas, Peter Maas, as well as twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, her beloved dog, Kelly, as well as many relatives and friends. She will be so missed by so many!
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Genevieve (Pat) Holder, brothers Bud and Roy Cleveland, and stepson Page Reed.
A private family memorial was held in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Alice married Maas, Raymond H. Abt 1947. Raymond (son of Maas, William H. and Bergman, Emma G.) was born 22 May 1927, Kimberly, Outagamie, Wisconsin, USA; died 26 Apr 2014, King, Waupaca, Wisconsin, USA. [Group Sheet]
