    Hello,
    I ran across your website today, and I am wondering if you can help me. I am looking for the cemetery that a set of my gg grandparents are buried in. My ggg grandfather's name was Martin John Juhnke b. 08 Nov 1826 d. 08 May 1906. He was born in Germany and died in Appleton, Outagamie Co., WI. His wife was Louisa (Rosenow) Juhnke b. 06 Jan 1833 d. 14 Apr 1918. She was also born in Germany and died in Appleton. According to census records, they lived in the Appleton area. I do not know what religion they were, so that makes finding the cemetery a little harder.
    Also, I may have info that you might be interested in. Most of my ancestors settled in Winnebago Co., however, my gg grandfather, John Bungert and his twin brother Michael Bungert came from Germany and setted in the Town of Ellington. Michael stayed in Outagamie Co., while my gg grandfather went to Oshkosh. Somwhere along the line, John changed his last name to Bongert. I have info on the descendants of both men, and I am also looking for more info about them and their families.

    Mentioned in History Of Outagamie County about first settlers in Stephensville;

    It having been announced that a village would be laid off in the town of Ellington, the citizens were asked to vote upon a name for such. village and "Ellington Center" was chosen.

    Evidently this did not suit many of the citizens there who thereupon suggested the name of "Stevensville." The following names were signed to the paper asking that the name should be changed from Ellington Center to Stephensville: J. D. Van Mick, Peter Prunty, George Huse, Elisha Bissell, Dave Matteson, George F. Nye, Walter Rynders, Richard Brown, John W. McWain, John Ferrell, W. T. Chauncey Smith settled in section 16 in 1851-2. John H. Jenne and family came in 1854; Byron M. Gurnee bought land in 1853, but it was two years later when he "cut the first tree and mauled out the rails to fence the first eighty." David and Caleb Matteson entered land in 1848 on which they afterward lived in section 29; Patrick Newcomb came about 1854; Francis Weissenberg and the family of Michael Wunderlich in 1857; William R Manley settled on section 19, removing later to section 28 in 1854. Biography:
    JOHN BONGERT, a worthy farmer, was born December 23, 1836, son of Philip and Anna Bongert, both natives of Germany. He was raised in Germany until seventeen years of age, when he emigrated to America and first stopped in Chicago where he worked as a laborer about one year, removed to Wisconsin and settled at Hortonville where he continued to work as a day laborer, until 1859. He then bought a farm in Outagamie county and remained there twelve years. He then traded that farm for the one upon which he now lives. At the tender age of twelve years he began to earn his own living as a day laborer. In 1861 he was united in marriage with Lucia Miller, and they have had four children, three of whom are now living: Mary, John A. and Matthias. The mother was born in 1833. He and wife are both members of the Catholic church. He has served on the board of supervisors. By hard work and good management he has made a success of this life and now owns eighty acres of well improved land with a two story house and good barn.

    Biography:
    FREDERICK M. BUNGERT, an energetic and industrious farmer of Ellington township, who has his property, located on Hortonville Rural Route No. 22, in a high state of cultivation, has spent his entire life in Ellington township, and was born on the farm which he now operates, April 12, 1865. His father, Michael Bungert, was born in Luxemburg, Germany, and came to the United States when about twenty-two years of age, landing at New York City. His first employment in this country was at railroad construction work in Illinois, but he soon came to Wisconsin and became a farm hand, working by the month for farmers in Ellington township. He was thrifty and economical, and by about 1860 he was able to buy the present Bungert homestead, at that time a wilderness covered with heavy timber, but at the time of his retirement in 1895, when he moved to Appleton, he was the owner of one of the finest farms of its size in Ellington township, boasting of well-built farm buildings, well cultivated soil and the latest models of farming machinery. In 1861 Mr. Bungert was married to Hannah Munsert, who was born in Saxony, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of seven years with her parents. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bungert of whom seven are still living. Frederick M. Bungert was educated in the schools of Ellington township, and he has always lived on the home place, with the exception of one summer spent in the harvest fields of North Dakota. At the age of thirty years, he rented the farm from his father, and he has continued to operate it ever since, carrying on general farming and dairying. In May, 1895, Mr. Bungert was married to Miss Ella Peters, daughter of Frederick and Elenora Peters, who came from Germany and settled in Center township, Outagamie county, and four children have been born to this union: Grace, born April 29, 1896; Linda, born May 3, 1898; Roy, born February 23, 1900; and Alfred, born September 10, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Bungert belong to the German Lutheran Church of Ellington.
