    Ellsworth V. Vann, age 97, passed away on May 27, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI.
    Ellsworth was born in Green Bay on December 7, 1918, to the late Louis (Mike) & Myrtle (Stutleen) Vannieuwenhoven.
    After graduation from Green Bay West High School, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. He married Alice Pagels on July 2, 1949, in Michigan City, Indiana. He owned and operated Meadow Gardens for 24 years, and was in real estate development for 28 years. He was the first secretary in the formation and building of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. He was a member of the Ashwaubenon School Board during the establishment of Ashwaubenon High School and was a member of the Agency School Committee #9, for the Department of Public Instruction.
    Ellsworth is survived by his eight children, Edward (Bonnie), De Pere, Russell (Linda), De Pere, Marie (Richard) Rippl, Appleton, Alan (Kathy), De Pere, Elaine Writt, Ashwaubenon, Robert (Machelle), De Pere, Wayne (Gail), Green Bay, Joann (Jeff) Boettcher, Green Bay; 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jackie Pagels, Longmont, CO and special cousin, Justin (Stan) (Lisa) Vannieuwenhoven, Sint-Joris-Weert, Belgium.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 2004; his parents; sisters, Gladys VanRite, Myrtle Kriescher and Dorothy Vanniewenhoven; brothers, Lawrence Vanniewenhoven, who died at birth, Clyde Vanniewenhoven and Howard Vann; sisters-in-law, Margaret Vanniewenhoven, Lorraine Vann, Doris Wendt and Christa Pagels; brothers-in-law, Ray VanRite, Clifford Kriescher, Roger Pagels, Richard Pagels and Albert Wendt.
    A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 9:30 am until time of the funeral mass at 11:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida Street with Rev. John H. Born December 1, 1924, in Green Bay, he is the son of the late Fred and Rose (Hujet) Vannieuwenhoven. Shorty married the former Dolores Bessert and she preceded him in death. He later married Betty (Williquette) Besaw and she preceded him in death. Shorty faithfully served his country in the US Army during WW II. He was employed as a truck driver with Green Bay Packaging and Schneider Transport until his retirement.     Gerald Berken, 77, Oneida loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, & Great Grandfather passed away at home on Friday March 20, 2009. The son of the late Earl and Serena (Vannieuwenhoven) Berken was born on April 29, 1931.On May 17, 1952 he married Alyce Vandehei at St. Joseph Church in Oneida. He farmed in the area for 30 years, retiring in 1978 for health reasons. He moved to Lake Tomahawk and became a fishing guide in the summer and plowed snow in the winter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting wood, and playing cards. He was proud of all his children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with all of them.
    Survivors include his wife Alyce of 56 years. Seven sons; John (special friend Laurie), Larry (special friend Cindy), Terry (Lynn), Joe (Karla), Kelly (Bev), Kevin (Bobbie), and Bob (Tammy). Two daughters; Mary (Gene Weber), and Jennifer (John Bromberek). Twenty Grandchildren, and eight Great Grandchildren. His sister Bev Pichette and his Brother Ron Berken.     Richard F. "Dick" Vannieuwenhoven, 67, Green Bay, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. He was born Feb. 21, 1944, in Green Bay, to Wilmer and Marie (Vanderheyden) Vannieuwenhoven. On Sept. 12, 1969, Dick married Kathleen Gasper in Green Bay. For many years, he worked as a carpenter and a mechanic. After retirement, Dick loved going to his trailer in Crivitz and spending time with his family and friends. His family was very important to him. Dick loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. When he was younger, he loved to go hunting and camping with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, and being a "Jack of all trades". Dick will be greatly missed by many a good friend. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

    Karl J. Hartstern, 68, Green Bay, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, March 14, 2006, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Green Bay, July 4, 1937, to the late Joseph and Adeline (Vann) Hartstern. Karl was a 1955 graduate of West High School. He entered the United States Army and was a veteran of seven atomic bombs. Karl married the former Margaret Sheehy on Nov. 14, 1959, in Culver City, Calif. He worked for Green Bay Packaging for many years until his retirement. He truly loved woodworking and meeting for coffee with his classmates. Karl spent nickels gambling at Oneida Casino with his gambling partner, Gloria Sheehy, and coming back with the enjoyment of watching and talking to other people. Special thanks to "Puto" for all the C & D trips. Karl never left anyone without a hug and an I love you. He held on to this value right to the end. Karl enjoyed the Bellin Runs, which he swore he would win if the Kenyans had not tripped him. He and Mom were not rich in money but rich with children. Karl's favorite saying was, "Be a leader, drink a Coke."
    He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Maggie" Hartstern, Green Bay; four daughters and their spouses, Kim Hartstern, Holly (Brian) Smeester, Robyn Dantoin and Scott Dantoin all of Green Bay; Teri (Rob) Ozarowicz, Krakow; son and daughter-in-law, Jay (Judy) Hartstern, Pulaski; extended family son, Jim Winn, Salem, S.C.; many other extended children; six grandsons, Branden, Aaron, Dakota, Jacob, Dillon, Joshua; two granddaughters, Sydne, and Pieper; two brothers, William Hartstern and Michael Hartstern, both of Green Bay; one sister and brother-in-law, Joan (Donald) Baenen, New Franken; many other relatives and friends; his dog, Cutter, will miss their midnight cookie breaks.

    Jean Anne Marie VandeHei, 73, De Pere, died Wednesday, June 28, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born July 3, 1942 in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Raymond and Gladys (Vannieuwenhoven) Van Rite.
    Jean graduated from West De Pere High School. She served her country in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged. In January 1992 Jean graduated from UW-Green Bay with a double major in Human Development & Social Change and Development with a minor in Psychology. She worked at Washington Middle School and then the Family Violence Center where she was a facilitator to the Men's Alternative Program. She also helped with Christian Fellowship and in Prison Ministry.
    Jean enjoyed camping, being in Door County and the Crivitz area, bowling where she was secretary for her league, and cross country skiing. She also was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was a founder of the Footloose Singles Group.
    Jean is survived by her four children: daughter Amy (Matt) Storm and their children: Ben and Hannah; son Brian (Mary Jo) VandeHei and their children: Ashley, Jamie (John) with Charlie Jo & Penny, and Cara; son Chad (Sherry) VandeHei and his daughter Morgan; and daughter Amanda (Derric Carter) VandeHei. She is further survived by her brothers Ken (Carol) Van Rite and John Van Rite; and nieces and nephews.
    Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jim Van Rite, and nephew Adam Van Rite.
    Family and friends may visit on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM.     Obituary:
    Kathy Kay Gerlach, 63, Green Bay, entered into eternal life on Saturday, July 16, 2016 surrounded by friends and family at Bellin Hospital. She was born to Delores Lori Spooner (Bessert) and Leonard Shorty Vannieuwenhoven on 12/12/52. Kathy graduated from Preble High School and had been employed as a cashier at several well-known establishments. She was married twice and had two sons. Kathy spent many years volunteering at St. Mary's Roller Rink which she truly missed in her later years.
    Her passion was spending time with her friends and family. Kathy loved babysitting for her grand nieces and nephews: Hayleigh, Emma, Brielle, Annalise, Ethan, Tori, Cody, Dylon, Travis and Mike. She enjoyed playing board games and cards, especially winning the occasional nickel from you. Kathy was quick to forgive and forget and willing to share whatever she had with anyone and everyone. She enjoyed spending time with Salvina, her adopted Grand-dog and all furry creatures. Her will, strength and laughter will be forever cherished and missed.
    Survivors include her children, Andrew and Amy Gerlach, Green Bay; Leon Gerlach (special friend Sarah Magro), North Port, FL; grandchildren, Amelia and Isaac Magro, North Port, FL; brother Rick (Chris) Vannieuwenhoven, Kaukauna; sister, Cherie (Mike) Schneider, New London; brother, Gary Vannieuwenhoven, Suamico; nieces, Paula Zegers-Stoltz, Terri Buman, Holly Linssen, Heidi Weckler; nephew, Dave Zegers; their spouses and significant others. Further survived by dear friends, Jennifer Pfotenhauer, Michelle Sisel, Linda Salzsieder , Audrey Dumas and Gloria Sinclair; all of Green Bay.
    Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Betty Vannieuwenhoven (Dunlap).
    A memorial gathering will be held at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, East-Town location, 2379 East Mason St., on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
    The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff and nurses of the Intensive Care Unit at Bellin Hospital.
