    Obituary:
    Jon K. Jansen
Appleton - I was born a south sider and lived as a south sider. Following my years at Appleton East High School, I worked at Butte des Morts Golf Club. In 1978, I enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at Fox Valley Technical College. My love of cooking took me to New York. Once I returned to Appleton, I spent many years working at the Holiday Inn as a chef and eventually became the Food and Beverage Director. As it turned out, my last job, with the Stone Arch Family, was my best job. The Lonsway's truly treated me and my family with much appreciated compassion and kindness. They were very understanding and supportive, working around my treatment schedule and allowing me to work whenever I was able. It was my extreme privilege to work for this family.
I was also very lucky and proud to cook for the weddings and celebrations of many members of my family and friends. It was my greatest love, next to my family and my love for jazz and blues music.
I met Kay on a blind date on Halloween of 1981 and we were married in 1987. We created a wonderful home and many happy memories. Our children are our greatest accomplishment. I thank my family for all of the love and laughter. They've stood at my side, through good and bad, all the way to the end. Branden, Mackenzie, and Shelby- I love you so much and am proud of you. I wish you all good things. May you, every day, connect with the beauty of your inner spirit. Always remember that the obstacles in your path are "your path" to forage through.
I have many wonderful memories of my family and friends as I was growing up. Strike up a conversation with any Jansen and they will fill your ears with the shenanigans we shared.
I am survived by my wife of 30 years, Kay; children: Branden (Kaylie Vanden Bosch) Rochon of Kimberly; Mackenzie (Bryan) Greenman of Norfolk, VA; and Shelby Jansen of Appleton; grandchildren: Audin and Hysen; brothers: Charlie (Chris), David (Joan) and Mark (Kathy) Jansen; sisters: Laurie (Brad) Thern and Lisa (Tim Yahr) Van Dyn Hoven; mother-in-law: Esther Jurgensen; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Dennis (Virginia Keddell) Jurgensen, Patti (Brad) Miles and Nicki Jurgensen. I am further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
I was preceded in death by my parents, Kenneth and Donna (Maahs) Jansen; infant sister, Michelle; grandparents: grandmother, Helen Maahs; father-in-law: Leonard Jurgensen; and brothers-in-law: Dwayne Jurgensen and Rick Retzlaff.
I would like to express my gratitude to all who were a part of our benefit. I am blessed with many friends and family from near and far who helped to make the benefit a success. You know who you are, please know how grateful I am. I would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare who have been there throughout my journey.
I was given the gift of life and now I have to give it back. It is hard, because I will have to miss family celebrations - know that I will be there in spirit.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at STONE ARCH AT RIVERVIEW GARDENS (1101 S. Oneida St. Appleton, WI 54915) beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, get a colonoscopy.
    "It's a beautiful thing."
