Obituary:
Delores Jane (Nienow) Wald, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Mom also was known to many as Big Del and some of the great grandchildren called her 'GG'. Mom was born on October 23, 1923 to the late Harry G and Elnora (Haufschildt) Nienow. She grew up in Brokaw, WI. She met the love of her life, John G. Wald, and they were married on December 23, 1944 in Wausau, WI. Her Dad told John jokingly, "Glad to get rid of her", but he let them park their trailer near his house in Brokaw. After living in Brokaw, they moved to Rhinelander and then Combined Locks.
Mom enjoyed having family around and family always came first. When the granddaughters were little, Grandma made them doll cakes for their birthdays. The grandkids and great grandkids liked playing games and cards, especially Crazy 8s, with her and they would giggle together because Grandma could not shuffle cards.
She and Dad spent many years up north at their cottage in Tomahawk, WI. They enjoyed it when we would bring our families up. There was always a campfire, pudgy pie making and, of course, strawberry picking. She was the glue of the family. She was always cooking, baking and taking care of everyone. Even in the couple days before her passing she wanted to make sure everyone else was taken care of before herself.
Mom also enjoyed her flowers and in earlier years she did lots of gardening and canning. And, in her spare time, she crocheted everyone an afghan. She loved all the family pets, especially her kitty, Squeaker.
Mom and Dad had four children: John Wayne (Butch), Jane Ellen, Amy Beth, and Sharon Kay.
Mom is survived by her children and their spouses: Jane (Mark) Stenz, Amy (Terry) Stingle, and Sharon (Joe) VanDomelen and daughter in law Cindy Wald. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: John Friebel, Kris (Tony) Knecht, Kari (Adam) Schuh, Abigail (Adam) Williams, Rebecca Wald, Tiffany (Chad) Fisher, Brenda Wald, Jessica Stingle, Erin VanDomelen, and Rachael VanDomelen. She also had 18 great grandchildren: Tiffany, Tyler, Tabatha, Jennifer, Ian, Brittany, Isaiah, Bella, Erik, Gwendolyn, Kayden, Emanuel, Carson, Caden, Sofia, Caleb, Parker, and Raya; and 2 great great grandchildren Colton and Paisley. Also surviving are her siblings: Pat Schreiber, Joan Schreiber, Tom (Marge) Nienow, Ginny (Earl) Lang and sisters-in-law: Eleanora Webb, Shirley Votis, and Sophie Wald and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her son, John (Butch); her parents, her siblings: Harry Jr., Marian Czaplinski, Darlene Asmundson, and Carol Hackbarth; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Chuck Czaplinski, Clarence Schreiber, Ernie Schreiber, Doug Asmundson, Bill Hackbarth, Will (Helen) Wald, Marvin (Helen) Wald, Raymond Wald, Dolores (Mike) Hanson, Pearl (Karl) Schneider, Don Votis, and Harold Webb.
A Funeral Service for Delores will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W 10th Street, Kaukauna with Pastor Levi Willms and Pastor Walter Steinbach concelebrating.
