Kathleen "Kathy" Yates, age 60, of Somerset, Wis., died on Jan. 26, 2011, at The Gathering in Stillwater, Minn.
She was born on March 30, 1950, in St. Paul, Minn., to Robert and Catherine (Pfeifer) VanderWyst. Kathy was a member of the CMO (Competitive Mounted Orienteering) Group and served on the Board of Directors for Friends of Governor Knowles State Forest.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John VanderWyst; and a baby sister. Kathy is survived by her husband, George Yates; son, Scott Yates; daughter, Tammy Yates (Felix Esperanza); brothers Ken (Jan) VanderWyst, Jerry (Sheila) VanderWyst, Steve (Bev) VanderWyst, Jim (Barb) VanderWyst, Mike (Tonya) VanderWyst; sister, Nancy (John) Geister; sister-in-law, Sue VanderWyst; also several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond, Wis. The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Cullen Crea Funeral Home in New Richmond and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
