    Obituary:
    Nick W. Klein, age 85, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, while visiting Escanaba, MI. Nick was born in Appleton on September 7, 1925, to the late Nicholas and Gretta (Merkel) Klein. He graduated from Appleton High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, Nick proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII in the First Marine Division, Second Marine Air Wing. He participated in the first invasion of Peleliu and Okinawa. After he completed his military service, he attended Lawrence University where he received his BA in Economics.
    In 1954, he was united in marriage to Carol Miller at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple has enjoyed 57 years together. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of Cooties at Appleton VFW Post 2778, and was also a lifetime member of American Legion Post #38 in Appleton. He has been a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church for many years. Nick enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting the casinos, and spending time with his family.
    He will be sadly missed by his wife Carol, Appleton; daughter Kathleen "Katie" Michalkiewicz, San Angelo, TX; 2 sons: Nick R. (Kathleen) Klein, Appleton and Kurt W. (Karen) Klein, Darboy; 4 grandchildren: Dawn (Aaron), Nick A. (Angela), Kyle W., and Kelli J. Klein; 6 great-grandchildren: Thea Klein, Kenneth Gutzman, Nick J., Samuel H., Benjamin J. and Allison M. Klein; Sister-in-law, Mary Klein, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Nick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard, and 2 brothers-in-law: Marius and Raymond Miller.
    A Memorial Service for Nick will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, followed by full military honors performed by Appleton VFW Post 2778. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    Richard G. Klein, age 78, of Manitowoc, passed away unexpectedly Wednesda y, August 17, 2005 at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. He was born Ju ly 16, 1927 in Appleton, son of the late Nicholas and Margaretta (Merke l) Klein. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He was unit ed in marriage to Mary McHugh June 9, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Chur ch in Appleton sharing 55 years together. He was employed by the Wiscons in Department of Revenue for ten years and Marathon Corp. for ten years. F rom 1960 until his retirement in 1990 he was Corporate Credit Manager a nd Assistant Treasure of Manitowoc Company Inc.He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was a member of Appl eton American Legion Johnston-Blessman Post #38, Appleton Elks Lodge #33 7, Manitowoc Eagles Club, National Credit and Finance Association, Wiscons in Alumni Association. He held a Wisconsin Real Estate Brokers license a nd was a member of the Wisconsin Realtor Association.He is survived by his wife, Mary, Manitowoc; a son and daughter-in-law: Ra ndall J. and Candice Klein, Two Rivers; a daughter, Marcia A. Klein, Apple ton; adopted daughter, Lisa A. Stage, Appleton; mother-in-law, Evelyn McHu gh, Appleton; brother and sister-in-law: Nicholas and Carol Klein Appleto n; two grandsons: Eric (Amanda) Kolar and Christopher Kolar, a great-grand daughter, Angel Kolar, many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a brother, Willey Klein and two sisters: Amy a nd Carrie Klein.A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2005 at the Bre ttschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with Deacon Bill Burke officiat ing.
