    Obituary:
    Carol A. VandeLaarschot (Bartels), age 61, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from kidney disease. Carol was born on September 27, 1950 in Peshtigo, WI, daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Dama) VandeLaarschot. She married Jim Plackner on May 5, 2007. She retired from Outagamie County Public Health on January 1, 2010. She was proud to be a long-time member of Clio Book Club, which was established in 1894 in Appleton. She was also a member of Fox Valley Genealogy Society and St. Pius' Prayer Shawl Ministry.
    Carol is survived by her husband, Jim Plackner; brother Jerry (Holly) VandeLaarschot; niece Amy (Justin) Baum; nephew Andy (friend Nicole) VandeLaarschot; great nieces Lauren and Julia Baum; great nephew Aidan VandeLaarschot; step sisters Laurel (Rod) Hoeth and Gayle Tonn (Jim Lukas) and step-sister-in-law, Donna Tonn. She is further survived by a step-children, Dr. Sara Franwick (Andy) and Andrew (Christie) Plackner, all from Maple Grove, MN and their children Jack, Lainey and Sophie Franwick and Mari and Audra Plackner. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Judy Siebold; Kay Schultz; and Sharon Bray. She was blessed to have many wonderful friends and neighbors. She loved her Westies, Max and Maggie.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy VandeLaarschot; step-mother Laura (Steer Tonn) VandeLaarschot and step-brother Dale Tonn. Carol would like to thank three people who gave her the Gift of Life kidney transplants.
    The funeral liturgy for Carol will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Friends may call on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo, WI. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wisconsin Kidney Foundation; UW Madison Douglas Miller Transplant Foundation; or St. Pius X Church.
