    Gertrude "Gert" Joos, age 100, of Shawano (formerly of Clintonville) passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Shawano Medical Center.
    The former Gertrude Theresa Kern was born on November 6, 1914 in Mackville (Town of Center, Outagamie County) to George and Agnes (Weiland) Kern. On August 31, 1946 she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Joos in Appleton. The couple lived in Menasha for a few years and in 1950 moved to New London. While in New London they were members of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Gert liked to volunteer at MPB School helping out in the library and with the lunch room. In 1977 the couple moved to Tigerton where they became members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Her husband preceded her in death on August 2, 2006 and the following year she settled in Clintonville and became a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. In August of 2013 she retired to Oakhaven Assisted Living in Shawano and joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gert's interests included sewing, making craft projects, growing beautiful flowers in her garden, and baking, especially her wonderful cookies and breads.
    Survivors include five children, Marilyn (Paul) Tank of Hortonville, Leonard (Rose) Adams of St. Ignace, MI, Bruce (Diana) Joos of Philips, Charlene Miller of Pulaski, and Larry (Sue) Joos of Caroline. There are 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, Stanley (friend Shirley Hanson) Kern of Clintonville, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Gert is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art, a daughter, Betty (Jim) Neitzel-Vogel, and two grandchildren, Leonard Adams Jr. and Dennis Neitzel.     Althea A. Kern, age 89, of Hortonville, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Brewster Village in Appleton. She was born on June 3, 1923, in Stephensville, daughter of the late George and Agnes (Weiland) Kern. Althea grew up on a farm in the Town of Ellington, Outagamie County. She loved children and babysat for years. She loved embroidering, cross-stitching, polka music, and the Green Bay Packers. Althea worked at Valley Packaging for a number of years.
    She is survived by a brother Stanley Kern, Clintonville; sister Gertrude Joos, Clintonville. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Colette (Vernon) Lamb and a brother Vernon (Toby) Kern.
    A memorial service for Althea will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Mary Vanevenhoven, Pastoral Associate at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Stephensville. A visitation for Althea will be held directly at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

    Bernice F. Schmidt, 84, Appleton, passed away Saturday Sept. 5, 2009, at Heartwood Homes in Appleton due to complications from Alzheimer's. Bernice was born June 12, 1925, in Appleton to the late Nicholas J. and Margaret H. (Weiland) Kern. On Feb. 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Warren Robert "Bob" Schmidt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple enjoyed 56 years together until his death in 2003. Many years ago, she worked as a waitress at South Side Athletic Club. Bernice was proud of her 45 years of volunteer service at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was also the recipient of the Helen McGrath Humanitarian Award in recognition of her many years and thousands of hours of dedicated service on April 24, 1995. Bernice enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved walking and traveling with Bob - especially their trips to Hawaii. Bernice and her husband Bob were faithful members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She was born on April 24, 1929 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Nicholas, Sr. and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. On March 31, 1951, Rita married Leonard Vanden Wyngaard at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly. Rita retired from the Kimberly Area School District after thirty years of employment. She enjoyed her flowers, snow globes, and playing cards. Rita loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending their high school activities and taking them on trips to Great America.

    She was born Feb 4, 1931 in Appleton to the late Nicholas and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. Joyce graduated from Appleton High School in 1949. She worked at Zwicker's Knitting Mill. Joyce met the love of her life, William 'Touhy' Frank at the July 4th Celebration in Pierce Park. They later wed on July 3, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 2008.
    She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also loved to bake, generously sharing what she made with her family. She was an avid Brewer and Packer fan and loved her flower gardens.

He was born on November 16, 1934, in Appleton, the son of the late Nicholas J. and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. Nick married Donna Zephirin on September 17, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. They were blessed with four children, Susan (Kevin) Gerarden, Julie (Mike Saunders) Herb, Kathleen (David) Heger and Nicholas E. Kern, Jr.; eleven grandchildren: Paul (Melissa Cichantek) Gerarden, Charles (Meghan Helmle) Gerarden and John Gerarden, Jodi Kay (Ryan) Dorshorst; Natalie (Luke) Kohtala and Broderick Herb; Amy (Michael) Berghuis and Layla Heger; Karri, Nicholas Benjamin, and Tobias Kern; and four great grandchildren: Megan, Teddy, Dylan and Lincoln. Donna passed away on March 9, 2002 after 47 ½ years of marriage. Nick married Marilyn Gunther on October 16, 2004.     Nick is further survived by his sisters: Lorraine Coopman, Joyce Frank, and Donna (Cornelius) Van Hout; brothers-in-law, Leonard Wyngaard and James (Vicki) Zephirin, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Vernon Coopman, Dolores (Harley) Reinholz, JoAnn (Jerome) Jost, Rita Wyngaard, Bernice (Bob) Schmidt, and William Frank; nephews, Dennis Schmidt and Jay Wyngaard; and nieces, Kim Wyngaard and Christine Reinholz.
    Nick attended St. Joseph Elementary School, St. Lawrence Seminary, and graduated from St. Mary High School in Menasha. He was a charter member and trustee at St. Bernadette Parish, and past president of St. Bernadette School Home School Association. Nick retired from Miller Electric after 41 years of employment and was past president at the Miller Electric Credit Union. He was also a vice president at NE Wisconsin World Trade Association.

    Lund, Margy (Weiland) Age 88, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015. She was born in the Town of Ellington on January 9, 1927 at home on the family farm, daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Helein) Weiland. On October 1, 1949, Margy married Lyle "Larry" "Sonny" Lund. They resided in Harrisburg, PA and later moved to New Cumberland, PA. Lyle preceded her in death on July 31, 1984 due to kidney problems. Margy graduated from business school in Harrisburg, PA. In August 1988, she retired from Bon-Ton Department Store where she was a department manager for 32 years. After her retirement, Margy moved back to Wisconsin to be with her family, leaving many friends back in Pennsylvania. Mike Tyler, her nephew, moved her back to Wisconsin, and she made her home with Mike. Margy just sat around home for a while, then went to work at Dean's Canning Factory in Hortonville, WI, until they closed the doors in 2000. She then went to work at School Specialty for five years. In 2006, Margy retired for good. Margy had good dogs to take care of. She enjoyed doing circle-a-word, reading, puzzles and crafts.
    Margy is survived by one brother: Raymond (Ardella) Weiland, Hortonville; two sisters: Mary "Mae" (Ronald) Tyler, Shiocton and Eleanora "Honey" Ferge, New London; and two brothers-in-law: John Lund, Branson, MO, and James (Darla) Lund, Appleton. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews and her special ladies friends who met once a month for lunch: Betty, Verna, Joyce, Mary and her two sisters.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle "Larry" Lund; brothers: Clarence "Buck" (Vera) Weiland and Debert "Bert" (Molly) Weiland; brother-in-law: Larry Ferge; sister-in-law Marleen Lund; nephew: Gary Weiland; her parents; and her husband's siblings: four sisters and six brothers.
    A funeral service for Margy will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 16, 2015, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, N3505 State Road 47, Appleton, with Pastor Jeffrey Suhr and Pastor Micah Martin officiating. Friends can visit with the family from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Tri County Memorial Gardens, Lewisberry, PA, with her husband.

    Hortonville - Raymond Carl Weiland, age 88, of Hortonville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Ray was born on December 21, 1929 to the late Carl and Mary (Helien) Weiland in the Town of Ellington. He was united in marriage to Ardella Kohl on August 10, 1957 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Readfield. Ray was a volunteer firefighter for many years, serving as chief for a number of those years. He was a member of the Commercial Club, the Polar Bear Riders Snowmobile Club and also was a charter member of the Grandview Golf Course. He worked as a mechanic at the Ford Motor garage in Hortonville and retired in 1995. After retiring, he worked part-time for Korth Trucking. Ray enjoyed helping in many ways at the Kohl Farm in Readfield, especially driving tractor. Ray will always be remembered as the man who could fix anything! He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Readfield, where he held several positions.
    Ray is survived by his wife, Ardella; sons, Terry (Betty) Weiland and Donald (Patricia) Weiland; grandchildren, Corey (Heidi) Weiland, Shawn (Lauren) Weiland, Melissa Weiland and Trisha (Kyle) Everson; great-grandchildren, Cody, Chase, Lorlei, Marly Weiland, Soren Everson and new "grandson Everson" coming in March; sisters, Mary Ellen Tyler and Eleanora Ferge and brother-in-law, Clifford (Ardes) Kohl. Ray is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Ray was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Luther and Esther Kohl; brothers, Clarence (Verna) and Donald (Marlene) Weiland; sister, Marg (Larry) Lund; brothers-in-law, Larry Ferge and Ronald Tyler and Rosemary Hunt-Weiland.
    The funeral service for Ray will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Readfield. Rev. Peter Kesting will be officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and again from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Readfield.
    The family wishes to thank the Hortonville Police Department, the EMTs and the Gold Cross Ambulance for their quick response and efforts.
    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.

    Robert Weiland Hortonville - Robert E. Weiland, age 83, of Hortonville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 10, 2017. Robert was born on August 8, 1934 to Joseph and Inez (McKeever) Weiland in the town of Ellington. Robert was a proud graduate of Hortonville High School and was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Greenville, WI. On August 28, 1957 he was united in marriage to Rosalene Van Handel at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom, WI. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Robert dedicated his entire life to operating a dairy farm and raising his family of ten children. His passion in life was farming. The long hours and challenges were met head on year after year to provide for his large family and community. He was well-known by neighbors and fellow farmers in Ellington, checking his fields in his pickup truck. Robert is remembered for lending a hand anywhere he was needed. He believed in being a true neighbor and friend to those around him. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Hortonville Fire Department for many years.
    Robert was adored by his extensive family, whom he nurtured and gave their start in life. As a farmer he tended the land and grew his crops; as a father he instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of hard work and the immeasurable treasure of family. We stand, together, as a family to honor his 83 year life, celebrate his gifts, and thank him for our blessings and the lessons he taught us.
    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosalene. His sons Richard (Sofia), Randal (Rhonda), Robert A. (Ana Maria), Ron (Missy, special friend), and his daughters Deb Immel (Jay, special friend), Diana (Wayne "Ace") Van Straten, Christine (Rick) Lautenschlager, Sandy (Ron) Black, Janis (Terry) Baumann.
    His twenty grandchildren: Rachael, Cheryl, Tommy (Tina), Christopher (Angela), Sara, Vanessa, Jackson, Brittney (Jayson), Courtney (Alex), Kylie, Joe, Jake, Bobbi, Steven, Tylor, Daniel, Elena, Kaitlyn, Whitney and Colton. Sixteen great-grandchildren: Alexis, Paige, Prestyn, Landyn, Parker, Madison, Emery, Rose, Blake, Ryker, Reyce, Lydiana, Shadyn, Adrian, Mateo and Ayden.     Mary Weiland, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 1, 2013. Gary was born in Appleton on November 16, 1946, son of the late Clarence "Buck" and Verna (Lund) Weiland. He was a graduate of the Appleton High School, and also proudly served several years in the United States Navy. On March 9, 1968, Gary married Janis Voigt in Appleton. She survives. Over the years Gary worked at Luebke Roofing & Siding and Baer's Beverage, where he made many lifelong friends. Prior to his retirement he worked at Badger Metals.
    Gary truly enjoyed going up north to "The Land" where he hung out with the boys, enjoyed the woods, and spent time beneath the pines relaxing around the campfire with a couple of beers or frying eggs for the family for breakfast. He followed the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers. Everyone who had the opportunity to meet Gary enjoyed his mischievous wit, wonderful sense of humor, and nice conversations. He was a very generous man who was happy to do anyone a favor. He loved his wife and family deeply. Everyone who knew Gary knows he'll have as much fun and happiness in Heaven as he did on Earth.
    Gary is survived by his wife: Janis Weiland of Menasha; three children: Ann (James) Chesnutt of Appleton; Christian (Heidi) Weiland of Menasha and their children Ethan and Haden; and Joseph (Michelle) Weiland of Menasha and their children Allison and Ryan; a sister: Lois (Dennis) Wiesner of Hortonville; a brother: Greg (Kathy Taplin) Weiland of Neenah; two brothers-in-law: James (Noritha) Voigt of Fremont and Steven (Debra)Voigt of Winneconne; two sisters-in-law: Mary (Don Loga) Voigt of Wisconsin Dells and Sue (Curt) Foth of Appleton. There are also many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Mark Weiland, his in-laws Clarence and Betty Voigt, and a nephew Carl Weiland.
    The family will hold a private memorial service to say good-bye to Gary. Friends and family are also invited to gather on Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2013 from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM at PULLMAN'S RESTAURANT, 619 S. Olde Oneida Street in Appleton for a time of reflection, remembrance, and refreshment.

    Obituary:
    Shawn Lee Young, age 32, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 10, 2017, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on August 17, 1984. Shawn was a 2002 graduate of Shiocton High School. He formerly worked for Highway Landscapers Inc. and was currently working for Daanen & Janssen Materials in De Pere. Shawn loved working on cars and showing off while doing his signature donuts. He was a member of the Stephensville Street Rods, enjoyed attending car swap meets and spending time at Shawano Speedway in the pits. He was a devoted father who loved sharing his passion of cars with Blake.
    He is survived by his son Blake Young; father Darwin Young; mother Diana (Wayne) Van Straten; siblings Vanessa Young and Jackson Van Straten; niece, Rose Young; significant other, Sammi Suprise and her daughter, Kailee Suprise; maternal grandparents, Robert (Rosie) Weiland; and God-parents, Christine (Richard) Lautenschlager. He is further survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
    Shawn was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Abraham (Ester) Young and step-grandparents, Gerald (Arlene) Van Straten.
    Mass of Christian Burial for Shawn will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edwards Church, Mackville with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17th from 4-8 p.m. at the Borchardt Moder Funeral Home, Shiocton and also at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Town of Bovina.
    The family would like to thank the Ellington Fire Department and First Responders.
    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established
