Walter B. Jacobs passed away on February 14, 2014 from natural causes just short of his 95th birthday. He was born in Appleton, WI on April 6th, 1919 to Peter and Adella (Krohn) Jacobs. He graduated from Sacred Heart grade school in 1933 and from St. Mary's Menasha high school in 1937. He moved to Michigan to work at the Kalamazoo Plating Co. where he met and fell in love with Amy, his future wife. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After training at the Chicago School of Aircraft Instruments he was sent to England on the Queen Elizabeth in 1942. Walter was assigned to Bury St. Edmunds in the 8th Air force as an instrument technician on the B-26 aircrafts. He was later transferred to the 7th Air Force at Andrews Field, England. He was chosen to return early in 1944 to the US for training as a Flight Engineer on the B-29; completing his training in June 1945 in Texas.
On May 19, 1945, Walter was joined with Amelia T. Kindlarski in Holy Matrimony at Sacred Heart Cathedral Amarillo, TX. When the war ended, they moved back to the Midwest where they started their family living at the Kindlarski farm in New Richmond, Michigan and would later live in Appleton, Rhinelander, Green Bay and Crandon, Wisconsin.
For over 25 years, he worked as the Superintendent of the Charmin Yeast Plant in Green Bay and later owned and operated the A&W Restaurant in Seymour with help from his family. He was an active member in his parish churches as council member, financial committee, lector, choir member and Eucharistic Minister; and was active in the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golf, playing his electric Hawaiian guitar, fermenting his own wine and especially spending time with his loving wife and children swimming, playing volleyball, croquet and other family activities. Walter was known by many for his cheerful smile and big hugs. He was a very devout Catholic and was grateful for all his blessings. Walter was a kind, loving, devoted husband and father who worked hard to support his wife and 8 children.
Walter is survived by his sister Sr. M. Bernadette, OCD Carmelite Nun, Iron Mountain Mich. and also by 8 children: Tom (Jane), Madison; John (Mary), Green Bay; Sr. Mariadele, Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc; Georgine (Dwight Miller), Madison; Joan Jacobs Baruffi, Chesterton, IN; Eugene (Lorraine), Stevens Point; Anne (Dan) Jacobs Helgeson, Atlanta, GA; Beth (Ralph) Aschenbrenner, Hobart; 13 grandchildren: Angela (Brett) Jacobs-Buenzli, Tony Baruffi, Norma (Nick) Jacobs-Ferry, Andriana Baruffi, Rick (Sarah) Jacobs, Steve Lindstrum, David Jacobs, Greg (Arica) Jacobs, Tim Baruffi, Tanya Baruffi, Mary Aschenbrenner, Andy Aschenbrenner, Jim Jacobs; 4 great grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers and sisters: Frances Jacobs, Miriam (Eddie) Rakowski, Rev. James Jacobs, Roger (Toni) Jacobs, John Jacobs and Eugene (Mary) Jacobs and granddaughter Katie Lindstrum.
Friends may call at St. Agnes church, 1484 Ninth Street, Green Bay from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staffs at St. Mary's Hospital and Unity Hospice for their sensitivity, guidance and support.
    Dear God,
We look to You with gratitude,
    for making Walter our Dad.
You gave him arms to hold us,
when we felt alone or sad.
    You made him conscientious,
to provide for us to live.
    You gave our Dad compassion,
which taught us how to give.
His smile was there each morning,
to send us on our way.
His back was tough to carry all,
the stress that came each day.
His hand was firm, yet gentle,
to teach us right from wrong.
His faith was strong to guide us,
on Your path now that he's gone.
His heart, which filled us full of love,
that we may share with others.
But most of all, You helped him find,
    our precious, loving Mother.
So, 'Thank You' Lord for giving us,
    the best we could've had.
We are forever grateful to You,
    for making Walter our Dad.
