    Caroline Kersten, Appleton, age 90, passed away Wednesday evening, November 9, 2011 at a local care center. She was born in Wausau on June 29, 1921, the tenth of fourteen children born to the late Joseph and Amelia (Utech) Hafeman. She attended McKinley Elementary School in Appleton and in August of 1943 married Sylvester "Sonny" Kersten. Sonny preceded her in death in 1993. Kelly began working at the switchboard at the Post Crescent in 1944, and retired from that position in 1986. She and Sonny lived in the same home for nearly fifty years, and though they never had children, they enjoyed the company of their dogs over the years.
    Kelly is survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Herman (Clarice) Hafeman, Oscar Hafeman, Gustav (Catherine) Hafeman, Andrew (Lucille) Hafeman, and Robert (Mildred) Hafeman; and her sisters: Erna (Harry) Herkowski, Rose (Robert) Angel, Leona (Clarence E.) Whiteaker, Laura (Connie) Van Handel, Hilda (Edmund) Schelfout, Mary Hafeman, Emiline "Mike" (Albert) Raymaker, and Marjorie (Albrecht) Hafeman.
    Funeral services for Kelly will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, with Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

    Raymaker, Emaline M. "Mike"
    Emaline M. Raymaker, "Mike," age 81, of Combined Locks, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 12, 2008, at Parkside Care Center. She was born January 7, 1927, to the late Joseph and Amelia (Utech) Hafeman, in Rhinelander, WI. She was the youngest of 14 children. Emaline got the nick name "Mike" from her four brothers who wanted another brother when she was born. Mike was married on October 20, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton, to Albert H. Raymaker. They were pen pals while Al was in Korea in the service. The couple enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They made their first home in Little Chute, where their two sons were born. Then they moved south to Combined Locks, in 1965, where she spent the rest of her life. Mike worked for the Darboy Club as a cook and for the Kimberly School District at Jansen School in the hot lunch program, prior to this she was a school teacher. Mike enjoyed the years spent with her husband, children and grandchildren at their trailer in Geano Beach Resort on Green Bay. She enjoyed fish fries and playing cards with the girls. Mike suffered a heart attack and stroke in 2001, which left her partially blind. Mike was a longtime member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks, Jacob Coppus American Legion Auxiliary, Combined Locks VFW Auxiliary and the Appleton Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
    Mike is survived by her husband, Albert H. Raymaker; two sons: David J. (Joyce) Raymaker, Stockbridge; Michael J. (Tammy) Raymaker, Marietta, GA; nine grandchildren, Joshua (Brenda) Raymaker, Andrew (Chris) Flenz, Tanya Johnson, Sarah (James) Dedering, Isaiah Raymaker, Zachariah Raymaker, Noah Raymaker, Jennifer Raymaker, Chanda Pouquet; nine great grandchildren, Austin J. Raymaker, Reese R. Raymaker, Brittney M. Conrad, Elijah J. Flenz John N. Flenz, Carisa F. Flenz, Leah M. Johnson, Hannah E. Johnson, Gavin R. Pouquet; two sisters, Caroline (Kelly) Kersten, Appleton; Mary Hafeman, Sun City, AZ.
    She was preceded in death by five brothers: Herman (Clarice), Oscar, Gustav (Catherine), Andrew (Lucile) and Robert (Mildred); six sisters: Ema (Harry) Herkowski, Rose (Robert) Angel, Leona (Clarence) Whiteaker, Laura (Connie) Van Handel, Hilda (Edmund) Schelfout and Marjorie Hafeman.
    The funeral liturgy for Emaline will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, at ST PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 204 East Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Father Jim Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly. Friends may call at the church from 3 p.m. Friday, until the time of the mass.

    Cornelius D. Van Handel, "Corky," age 70, New London, died on July 21, 2010, while doing service for others volunteering in the Adopt A Highway Program for the Power Engineers Union. Corky was born on July 8, 1940, in Appleton, son of the late Cornelius and Laura (Hafeman) Van Handel. He was united in marriage to Diana Abel on May 14, 1982. Corky was always volunteering when help was needed, and putting others before himself. He loved kids, being Santa Claus and gardening. He was a strong believer in education and was a graduate of UW-Oshkosh. He was active in politics running for various offices. He was also a strong Union activist, and an Ombudsman for various nursing homes. Corky served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
    He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters: Donna (Dan) Daniels, Appleton; Vickie Van Handel, Beaver Dam; sons: Cory Van Handel, Appleton; Scott (Rhonda) Van Handel, Waupaca; Doug Van Handel, Appleton; two step-sons: Terry Van Horn, Shiocton; Tom Van Horn, Green Bay; three brothers: Charlie (Phyllis) Van Handel, St. Charles, MO; Ken (Pat) Van Handel, Menasha; Gary (Sam) Van Handel, Appleton; two sisters: Mary (Walter) Hacker, Green Bay; Gloria (Don) Managan, Menasha: sister and brother in-law, Carmen (Ron) Laedtke, Appleton and brother and sister in-law, John (Barb) Abel, New London. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    His parents preceded him in death.
    Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. Burial will be in the Most Precious Blood Cemetery, New London. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

    Chad A. Hafeman, age 35, of Appleton, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016. He was born on December 24, 1980 in Appleton to Roger and Lynette. Chad attended Appleton High School and went on to The Fox Valley Technical College where he studied welding. He was most recently employed as a concrete worker.
    Chad was a person who would light up a room with smiles, laughter, jokes and his well-known dancing. His "Jack-of-all-Trades" abilities were beyond the working hands as he also loved dancing crazy with his kids and was never afraid of embarrassing them; Chad's children were his world and he loved them more than they will ever be able to know. Chad never cared of what others might think of him and he lived everyday being who he wanted to be. He most enjoyed his family and friend time with cookouts (Chad was an excellent cook), camping, pool leagues, video games and listening to endless music that kept him believing that life goes on. Chad would always put his own problems aside to help, comfort and protect others. He was known for his glory of putting everyone ahead of himself. His children are what kept him going because he too was still a kid at heart.
    Chad is survived by his 8 children, Brandon Sumnicht, Devin Sumnicht, Eliza Hafeman, Airyana Hafeman, Natasha Hafeman, Niles Hafeman, Mason Hafeman and Logan Hafeman; parents, Roger Hafeman and Lynette La Bonte; step-mother, Judy Hafeman; six siblings, Boyd (Toni) Bender, Melissa (Casey) Wheeler, Amber (Kevin) Ostorero, Trisha Strong, Travis (Sabrena) Hafeman and Nicole (Jason) Thurke; grandparents, Mildred Hafeman and Joanne and Napoleon La Bonte. Chad is further survived by 11 nieces, 5 nephews, many more dear relatives and close friends.
    Chad was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Hafeman.
    The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at WICHMANN FARGO FUNERAL HOME, 537 N. Superior St. Appleton. Visitation will take place on Friday starting at 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated in Chad's name.
