    George G. Zachow, age 81, of Clintonville, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville. George was born on March 21, 1924 in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of the late Clarence W. and Anna (Giddings) Zachow. His father was one of the founders of the Atlas Conveyor Company, Clintonville. George's grandfather, Otto Zachow, was the inventor of the four-wheel drive principle. After George graduated from Clintonville High School in 1942, he continued his education at U.W. Madison. Between 1943 until 1946, he served his country in the U.S. Army overseas in France and Germany in the Army Combat Engineers. After his discharge from the service, he again attended U.W. Madison and graduated with a B. S. Degree in mechanical engineering. In 1950 he received a B.B.A. Degree in industrial management also from Madison. In 1951, following graduation, he was employed in Chicago as a mechanical engineer, designing conveyors for Link Belt Company. He moved to Clintonville and joined his father in business and ownership at the Atlas Conveyor Co. In 1952, the company was sold several times and George continued to work there until Rexnord/Nordberg bought the company where George became operations manager, retiring in 1989. On June 19, 1948 he was united in marriage to Margaret "Peg" Rohan at the Christ Congregational United Church of Christ, Clintonville. The couple had lived in Clintonville all of their married life. Mrs. Zachow preceded her husband in death on January 15, 2002. George had been a board member of F.V.T.I. Foundation, a member of the Valley Council of Boy Scouts, the American Legion Post # 63, a Rotary Club President, the Free and Accepted Masons Chapter #197, Curling Club, President of Historical Society, board of directors for the Hospital, board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce, a United Way director and the Clintonville Area Foundation, all of Clintonville. He also was an active member of the Christ Congregational United Church of Christ, Clintonville, where he served as Deacon, choir member and moderator. Survivors include: two sons: Paul Zachow , Webster Groves, MO Mark (Debra) Zachow, Clintonville three grandchildren: Kristy, Stacy and Jonathan Zachow, his sister-in-law, Rosemary "Posy" Rohan, Wausau three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, (Stella VanRyzin Zachow), his wife, (Margaret "Peg"), and a brother-in-law, (Ben Rohan). Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the Christ Congregational United Church of Christ, Clintonville with Rev. Jill Meyer officiating and inurnment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Military rites will be held at the church by the American Legion Post #63 and the V.F.W. Post #664 of Clintonville. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting his family with the arrangements. Condolences may be sent through www.eber hardtstevenson.com In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Christ Congregational United Church of Christ, Clintonville.
