    Obituary:
Nicholas Frank "Jake" Diedrich, age 94, of 51 East Brooklyn Street, Chilton, died on Sunday morning, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton surrounded by his loving family. Nicholas was born in Kloten, WI, on Oct. 13, 1914, a son of the late William F. and Bergetta (Preissner) Diedrich. As a baby, one day his parents took him to Stockbridge, WI, where a lady saw him and said, "What a nice little Jake!" thus giving him his lifelong nickname. He attended St. Elizabeth School, through grade 8, and helped on the Kloten family farm. Before he married, Jake worked for Al Hoerth as a truck driver hauling cattle to Milwaukee, where he slept in the stock yards overnight and brought back new farm machinery for Hingiss Implement of Chilton for retail.
On August 30, 1938, he married Edah Louise Schmeiser of Chilton and moved to Gravesville for a brief while before moving to Chilton. Shortly after Nick was married he started working for Hillside Cheese Factory of Chilton, hauling cans of milk for farmers back to the factory and later hauling barrels of Cheese to a Plymouth warehouse. He bought into Hillside Cheese Factory and became a co-owner, working there until his retirement.
Nicholas and Edah celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 30, 1988, at the Chilton Eagles Club. She preceded him in death on February 15, 1993. Nick joined the Chilton Eagles Aerie 1288 at the age of 18 and has been a member for the past 77 years. He also was a member of the former St. Augustine Parish, now Good Shepherd Parish. Jake enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and playing the card games Sheepshead and Skat. He also enjoyed gardening, coin and stamp collecting, and watching baseball, golf, and wrestling on television. In his spare time one could always find him out in his workshop, working on a project or making a part to repair some broken item. He could fix almost anything and make something out of nothing.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Robert Kleckner, Two Rivers; three grandchildren: Timothy, Thomas, and JoAnn Kleckner; a brother and two sisters-in-law: Leonard "Fritz" and Myra Diedrich, Malone; and Rosine Diedrich, Fond du Lac; and special friends: Herb and Lou Ann Buhl, New Holstein. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Nicholas was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters-in-law: Hugh "Hooks" Diedrich, Leo Diedrich, William and Virginia Diedrich, Robert and Arlene, and Bernice "Bunny" Diedrich, and Laura Keller; four sisters and seven brothers-in-law: Rose and Ray Ecker, Monica and Hilary Ecker, Marian and Marvin "Steve" Amel, Dorothy and Howard Rather, John Keller, Gustave Schmeiser and Victor Schmeiser.
Funeral Services for Nicholas "Jake" will be held at 10:30 a.m. January 24, 2009, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E Main St., Chilton). Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Robert Kollath, with burial to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Chilton. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton on Friday evening, Jan. 23, 2009, from 5 until 8:30 p.m. The Chilton Eagles Aerie 1288 will have a service at 7:45 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. led by Deacon Dennis Bennin. Visitation will continue at Good Shepherd Church on Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2009, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 10:30 a.m.
Jake was a wonderful loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives, and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Deacon Dennis Bennin, Rev. Robert Kollath, Dr. Denis Pleviak, the doctors and nurses at the Calumet Medical Center, and the Chilton Care Center for the kind and compassionate care shown to him and his family. Your kindness will always be remembered.
