    Family History Researcher:
    Dear Cousin Jay,
Here are some messages I have received from other cousins following the Horsch/Schonarth family lines:
    From Dave Heins:
    Angie,

I just got back from a family vacation trip to New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. After we left New York, we drove up to Rhode Island to visit Katherine Horsch. We were able to find the resthome where she lives.

I talked to Katherine Horsch for about 15 minutes. She is fairly alert for someone 85 years old. Unfortunately, she doesn't know anything about her relatives in Germany. She only knew that her father was from Trier. I asked her about her grandparents names, or uncles and aunts, but she didn't have any information about them.

She did remember her cousins Peter, Joseph and Nicholas Schonarth. Katherine's father, Hubert Horsch, helped them get settled when they first came to America. She mentioned that Nicholas wanted to study to be a doctor, but Katherine's dad could not find a school for him in America. Nicholas returned to Germany, and when World War I broke out he was drafted into the German army. Nicholas died in combat serving for the German army during World War I. This is why we can't find any trace of him in America.

Katherine did mention that she had communicated with you. I assume you were able to send her a letter. Have you gotten a response from her?

I checked an online phone directory for Germany, and I found a small number of Schonarths that live near Trier. I will try to contact them to see if they have any information about the Horsch/Schonarth ancestors. I'll let you know what I find.

    Dave
