    Biography:
PLACE: Cornelius Lockery came to Oshkosh WI in about 1866 with wife Jane Gardner Lockery. His occupation is listed as "teamster" (driving teams of horses for the lumber company) in the 1868 Oshkosh City Directory. He and his family moved to Shiocton WI in about 1886 where they were involved in the lumber business and farming.
BURIAL: Cornelius Lockery, buried in Shiocton, was the first person to be buried in the new Catholic, St. Denis, cemetery per his obituary. The cemetery is on Rexford Rd. outside of Shiocton. The grave stone is a tree stump with leaves inscribed with his name and his wife Jane's and their birth and death dates.
BIO: Both Cornelius and Jane were Irish Catholic's.
NAME: According to Mr. Jeff Johnson the name Lockery is one of many variations on Lochery (others include Loughery, Laughery also Lochary, Lockary). He states that the Lockery family appears to have originated in the Lanarkshire region of Scotland, and were associated with the Douglases. The Clan Douglas Association of North America lists Lockery as one of the Douglas septs. Many,if not most, of the Lockery's (etc) in North America appear to be descended from a Jeremiah Lockery (Loughry) who immigrated sometime in the mid-1700s and settled in the Cumberland County region of Pennsylvania. A descendant of that family, Julia Ann Jewett, publised a genealogy of this family in 1923 entitled "A Brief Genealogy of the Loughry Family of Pennsylvania". According to Jewett, the Lockerys left Scotland in the time of James I and VI to settle on one of the plantations (colonies) in northern Ireland. Most of the North American Lockery families are traceable to northern Ireland for that reason. In the mid-1800's, however, there were
still a large number of Lockerys living in Lanarkshire,Scotland.
NAME: The book "Irish Surnames by Edward MacLysaght stated (O) Loughrey - (O Lautheirghigh) mainly found in Ulster.
Andrew Lockery of Winnepeg Canada notes that the grave markers in several communities between Belfast up the coast to Londonderry were all "Lockery " . I was very young when I was shown them and sadly would have to revisit Ireland to find them again.
The only other thing that came to mind is that when the British Govt required the Scots to have family names Lockery was ,as it suggests, the name of the business where locks were made and repaired .I remember my granfather telling me that it was south of Edinburgh that the family had its origins but I suspect that urban expansion probably means that the village is now within greater Edinburgh. I also remember being told that the land enclosures that threw most of the tenant farmers off the land in favour of sheep led to the demise of the Scottish lockerys and that only my great grandfather did not emigrate. I am fairly certain that there are only three Lockerys still in Britain and they are all very close relatives.

    Biography:
MICHAEL M. LOCKERY, sheriff of Outagamie county, Wisconsin, and a well known business man of Appleton, where he has resided for about seventeen years, was born August 15, 1863, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, son of Cornelius and Jane (Gardner) Lochery. Cornelius Lochery, who was a lumberman and contractor, came to Oshkosh from the state of Maine, and in 1876 moved his family to Bovina township, Outagamie county, where he bought and improved a farm, continuing to reside there until his death, January 5, 1899. His widow still survives, making her home in Appleton. She is a faithful member of the Catholic Church, and has been the mother of eight children: Mary, who married H. H. Muller; Mrs. L. A. Blackman of Lewiston, Idaho; James E., a resident of Minnesota; Michael M.; Cornelius, of Oshkosh; William, twin of Cornelius, a resident of Appleton; Mrs. Harry Ames, residing in Appleton; and Mrs. George Ames, of Lewiston, Idaho. Michael M. Lockery received a public school education in Bovina township, and remained on the home farm until he reached the age of seventeen years, when he started in river driving and lumbering, which kept him occupied during the next fourteen years and gave him a strong frame and vigorous constitution. After leaving the river, Mr. Lockery opened a hotel and livery at Shiocton, where he continued in business for three years, after which he came to Appleton and engaged in a livery business, this being in 1894. After six years he sold his livery to engage in the real estate business, in which he has continued to the present time, and he also for five years was closely identified with the furniture trade. He also owns an excellent farming property in Outagamnie county. Mr. Lockery has always been prominent in democratic politics, and for four years he served as alderman. In 1906 he was, given the democratic nomination for sheriff of Outagamie county, and was elected by a majority of 968 votes, and in 1910, when again nominated, polled 1,362 more votes than his republican opponent. Sheriff Lockery's career as an official has been as clean as that as a private citizen; and many of the qualities that made his business enterprises prosper have been brought into play to make his public affairs successful. Fraternally, he is connected with the Eagles, the Elks, the Odd Fellows and the Order of the Moose.
On April 16, 1891, Sheriff Lockery was united in marriage with Alvina Lock, daughter of William and Eliza (Swerge) Lock, of Outagamie county, and two children have been born to this union: Ralph and Ethel.

The obituary states that Cecilia died of heart aliment. Jackie Schmidt remembers that one of the two women from Idaho had a short leg and her shoe was fitted to make her walk evenly. She said she thought it was the shorter of the two and writer thinks Cecilia was shorter than Sadie.
Sadie and her husband George came to the Orchards in 1909 and purchased property on Bryden Ave where they maintained orchards.
The Lewiston Orchards was an irrigated district located on a level plateau to the south of the city of Lewiston, in altitude of 700 feet above the city. From the plateau one obtains a beautiful view of the Snake and Clearwater rivers valleys, as well as the Blue and Crain mountains. The district consisted of 4,300 acres with fruits, berries and vegetables being raised.

    "Grandpa"
    Grandpa Harry is the best
He's better than all the rest.
He never shouts, complains, or fights
He's always brave, and does whats right.
    Grandpa is really smart
    And I know
    he has a caring heart.
    Grandpa is cool
    and this is why
    He really is
    an awesome guy.
    He went on the congo
    without a doubt
    Of course it was
    really hot out.
    Grandpa thought
    it was really fun
    No this poem isn't done.
    He goes fishing with me
    when I wanna go
    And sometimes
    we like to play Skip-po.
    Grandpa sometimes
    takes the blame for me
    When he says,
    "I did it", sarcastically.
    I wouldn't give him up
    for the world.
    He's one of a kind
    his hair is not curled
    Cause Grandpa's
the best than all the rest.

    Obituary:
Glen Rosholt Lockery, 93, of Moscow, Idaho, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in Gritman Medical Center, Moscow.
He was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Portage County to the late Glen Burr and Mabel (Rosholt) Lockery. He had lived in the Moscow area since 1947, coming from Rosholt.
Glen received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees from Lawrence University, Appleton. He earned a Master of Arts in Music and Music Education from Columbia University. He also did additional course work at Columbia and Julliard.
During World War II Glen attended the U.S. Navy Midshipman's School at the University of Notre Dame. As Lieutenant J.G., he then served in Africa and Algeria and took part in the invasion of Salerno, Italy, before being stationed in England. During that time he worked in the correspondence office, handling vital communications for the U.S. Naval Forces.
He later received a Letter of Commendation from the Navy for his role in the successful accomplishment of the Invasion of Europe on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
After returning home he lived in New York City, where he became involved with Robert Shaw and the group that would eventually become the Robert Shaw Chorale.
In 1947, Glen was hired by the University of Idaho to teach voice and to be the conductor of the Vandaleers, the University's Concert Choir. He held this position 34 years until his retirement in 1981.
Under his direction the Vandaleers became known as one of the premier choral organizations in Idaho. The choir appeared on national radio networks, television shows, and undertook state, regional, and international tours to Europe in 1971, and Latin America in 1975, in addition to concerts given locally.
In May, 1989, as part of the UI centennial celebration, Glen was honored by the Vandaleers during a reunion of past and present members of the choir. In association with this honor, Glen was commended on the floor of the U.S. Senate on April 18, 1989, and the commendation is part of the U.S. Congressional Record.
Glen was a member if IMEA/MENC, Pi Kappa Lamba, Phi Mu Alpha, and of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. In 2008, he was inducted into the Idaho Music Educators Hall of Fame.
While living in Idaho, Glen maintained a strong devotion to his roots in Rosholt. Having built a cottage there, he enjoyed summers at the lake amid the chaos of visits from family members whom he always welcomed to the cottage. At the same time, Glen lovingly cared for the Rosholt family home, which had been continuously occupied by family members since being built by his grandfather, John Gilbert Rosholt, in 1906. Through Glen's untiring efforts, he was successful in having the home placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
In addition to all his other accomplishments, Glen was an excellent woodworker and carpenter, as well as an avid outdoorsman, golfer and bridge player.
Glen is survived by a brother, Milton Lockery, of LaGrange Park, Ill.; nieces, Dona (Michael) Sheehan, Kristin (Spartaco) Casini, Joni (Larry) Ambler, Barbara (Ralph) Keller, Sarah (Worthington) Blum; and by nephews, Gifford (Nancy) Torbenson, David (Anne) Lockery, and Christopher (Chris) Lockery.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald J. Lockery, and a sister, Thelma "Sally" R. Torbenson.
Glen was a member of Paradise Masonic Lodge #17 in Moscow, the Scottish Rite, the Calam Shriners, and the Latah County Shrine Club.
At Mr. Lockery's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date in both Moscow, Idaho, and Rosholt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of one's choice.
Glen will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues, but his contributions, talents, and devotion to others will go on.
