    John M. Fries, 38, formerly of 1218 N. Appleton-st, died Thursday afternoon, after a few days' illness, Mr. Fries, who was born here in 1891, operated the Calumet hotel at Hilbert until the time of his death. Survivors are his widow, two children, Jack and Audrey; three brothers, Frank and William of Appleton and Edward of San Francisco, Cal.: three sisters, Mrs. Frank Kasel, Menasha; Mrs. Paul Abendroth and Mrs. Ambrose Weisgerber, Appleton. Funeral services will be held at S o'clock Monday morning at St. Therese church. The body will lie in state at the Brettschneider funeral parlors from Friday afternoon until the time of the funeral.

    Mrs. Anhalt of Kiel Summoned; Rites Tuesday. Kiel. - Mrs. Albert Anhalt, 60, of 1004 N. Third street, Kiel, died suddenly this morning at her home. She had been ailing for some time. Nee Katie Nicolay, she was born Feb. 3, 1887, in the town of New Holstein, the daughter of John and Margaret Nicolay. She was married to Albert Anhalt on Oct. 15, 1907, and they resided in Kiel for a time and then on a farm near Marytown for 30 years. For the past five years they resided at the present home. Survivors are her husband; two sons, Gilbert of Marytown and Lando of Appleton, 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. George Schwartz of Chilton; two brothers, John and Theodore of New Holstein. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Peter and St. Paul church, and members of that society will pray the rosary at the church at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 10 o'clock at the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church with Father F.X. Kheil officiating. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Monday noon until the time of the services.

    Probst, Helen M. Appleton
    Age 84, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Colony Oaks Care Center. She was born on November 3, 1919 to the late Paul and Lucia Abendroth in Appleton. She enjoyed trips to the family cottage on Loon Lake, but most of all spending time with her family. Helen was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
    Survivors include five children: Terrie (John) Sprenger, Eden Prairie, MN; E. Michael (Linda) Probst, Appleton; Mary Lu (Norman) Nelson, New London; Betty (Ronald) Wolff, Knoxville, TN; and Donald Probst, Appleton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-laws Jim and Mary Probst, Joe and Carol Probst and Marcella Band.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. in 1988, a son, Timothy in 1960, sisters: Virginia Whalen and Joanne Abendroth; brothers: Paul, Roy and Robert (Buddy).
    A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church (213 E. Wisconsin Ave.) Appleton with Father Bill Hoffman officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service also at church. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial fund is being established.

    Weisgerber, James J., Appleton, Age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Cherry Meado ws Hospice in Appleton, with his loving wife and family by his side. Jim w as born February 20, 1922 in Appleton, son of the late Ambrose and Alvi na (Fries) Weisgerber. Following his graduation from Appleton High Schoo l, he proudly served more than four years during World War II as a memb er of the United States Marine Corps, and saw action in the Pacific Theatr e. Among his decorations are the Silver Star for gallantry and the Purp le Heart. On January 16, 1946, he married the former Madelyn Noie at Ho ly Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna; she survives. For many years he w as employed by the Adler Brau Brewery, and later worked as a parking met er technician for the city of Appleton until his retirement in 1984. Jim e njoyed outdoor sports of all kinds, and spent his summers on the golf cour se and his autumns at the bowling alley. In his earlier years, he enjoy ed hunting and fishing at the family cottage on Lake Poygan. Many will rem ember his years of loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Jim was a wonderful w ood carver, and each year enjoyed showing his creations at Art in the Par k. Jim was currently a member of the Johnston-Blessman Post #38 of the Ame rican Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #607, t he Winagamie Golf Club, the Appleton Gallery of Arts, and was a faithful m ember of St. Therese Catholic Church.He is survived by his wife of fifty-s ix years: Madelyn "Maggi" Weisgerber; a son: Dick (Kris) Weisgerber, Apple ton; a granddaughter: Amy (Craig) Batley, Wichita, Kansas; a grandson: To dd (Suzy) Weisgerber, Appleton and their sons Brady, Jakob, and Zachar y; a niece: Katie McCurry, St. Paul, Minnesota. Jim is further surviv ed by numerous relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by h is parents, a brother Don, and by two sisters: June (Charles) Hughes and M arian McCurry.The funeral liturgy for Jim will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 2 8, 2002 at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Morrison Street at Wisconsin Aven ue with Fr. Daniel Gilsdorf officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Jos eph Cemetery with military memorial honors being presented by the membe rs of American Legion Post #38. Friends may call directly at the chur ch on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the liturgy.     Anhalt, Lando A. 1005 W. Winnebago St. Appleton Age 91, passed away at his home, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, February 5, 2003. Lando was born April 11, 1911 in the Town of New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Nicolay) Anhalt. Lando has resided in the New Holstein and Appleton areas all of his life. He was united in marriage to Pauline Achter in Chilton on January 31, 1933, sharing 70 years together. Lando was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corp., at the Lakeview Mill, for 30 years, retiring in 1971. Following his retirement, Lando enjoyed walking, biking, and woodworking. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
    He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pauline; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tom School, Appleton; granddaughter, Stacy (John) Tadych, Kaukauna; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaylee, and Jonathan Thomas "J T" Tadych and another great-grandchild, due to arrive in July. Lando is also survived by a sister-in-law, Edna Anhalt, New Holstein; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
    In addition to his parents, Lando was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Gilbert (Veronica) Anhalt; a sister, Sylveria Anhalt; and a grandson and his wife, Sarah and Tom School, Jr.
    The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10AM Saturday, February 8th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., with Fr. John Holly, Msgr. John Schuh, and Fr. Michael O'Rourke con-celebrating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-8PM Friday and then directly at the church from 9AM Saturday until the time of the service. The parish prayer service will be held at 7PM Friday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tim Shaw and to Affinity Hospice, (especially Sandy, Gina, and Mary) for their loving care during this difficult time.
