    Obituary:
Mary Van Stippen, age 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2013 at Brewster Village after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Mary was born in Appleton on January 28, 1943 to the late Robert and Martha (Eldred) Mortell. She married Joe Van Stippen on February 23, 1963 in Menasha.
Mary had a 35-year retail career with Gimbels, Marshall Fields, Daytons and Macys, retiring in 2006.
Mary met Mike Larson of Greenville in 1989 and they spent the next 24 years together.
Mary enjoyed going to many sporting events including cheering on her children and grandchildren, playing cards, bowling and loved playing "The Machines." She spent most of her time up north after retiring. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. Mary was always a big Packer and Brewer fan, never missing a game and was also very well-read on sports. If you had a question about the Brewers or Packers, Mary was a ready reference!
She will be missed by her best friend and companion Mike Larson; daughter Lisa (Tom) Schommer and their children Nicole (fiancé Eric), Melanie, and Michelle; son Joe (Mary) Van Stippen and their children Amanda (fiancé Brandon), Ryne, and Aaron; two sisters: Arlene (George) Mosher, Mc Henry, IL and Joyce (Dan) Gavronski, Kimberly; two brothers: Tom Mortell, Germantown and Richard Mortell, California; brother-in-law John (Francine) Rankin, Appleton; three sisters-in-law: Donna Mortell, Dr. Judy Mortell, and Debbie Roshe; Mike's kid's and grandchildren: Todd (Heather) Larson and their children Josh and Sarah, and T.J. (Jess) Larson McKenzie and their children Jake and Trent. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Martha Mortell, sister Kathleen Rankin and brother Robert Mortell.
A memorial service will take place at 2 pm on Sunday, August 4, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit directly at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 11 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bar-Lev and his nurses at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, the staff at Brewster Village, and ThedaCare Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Mary.
