Obituary:
Gayland H. Otto, of Little Chute, age 88, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 from complications of pneumonia. He arrived into this world on March 7, 1927, born the son of Erna and Harold Otto. He attended Menasha High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In March of 1948, Gayland graduated from Spartan School of Aeronomics in Tulsa, OK. He was proud of his time in the Air Force and loved working on and flying airplanes. Gayland married Lorraine (Gerrits) on August 7, 1948 at Holy Cross Parish in Kaukauna. He was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 in Little Chute and was also a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus in Kimberly. Gayland retired from Thilmany's in Kaukauna in 1989 after 39 years.
Gayland is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lorraine; daughters: Linda (Tom) Felzer of Appleton; and Connie (Chuck) Huss of Darboy; sons: Greg (Julie) of Appleton; Randy (Chris) of Sherwood; and Rick (Lori) of Darboy; grandchildren: Kelly (Tom) Schuchart, Ryan (Andrea) Felzer, Jesse (Stephanie) Felzer, Jenna (Ryan) Weninger, Krista Otto, Amie (Keith) Romenesko, Brandon, Tyler and Ashley Otto, Annie Kassen, Colleen Sloane and Kevin Huss; great grandchildren: Brady, Katie, Emma, Laura, Aleia, Lexi, Grayson, Adam, Luke, Hunter and Keagon. Also surviving are sisters: Donna Jungenberg and Juniel (Mike) Mathis; sisters-in-law: Ethel Walker, Viola Dickrell; and brother-in-law: Richard (Dolores) Gerrits.
Gayland was preceded in death in death by his brother, Darwin (Lois); sister-in-law: Aggie (Melvin) Gerrits; and brothers-in-law: Ambrose Dickrell and Eugene Walker.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.
He took pride in his cottage on Lake Gogebic, MI and spent many hours there with his family, friends and grandkids, making some very cherished memories. During his early years of retirement, many winters were spent in Gulf Shores, AL with friends. Gayland had a great love of life and enjoyed every single day. He has left us all special mementos he made or fixed for us. Anything that broke, Gayland could fix "or" break fixing it!
