    Femal, James J.James J. Femal, of Appleton, age 85 passed away peacefully in his home Mon day, August 2, 2004. He was born January 19, 1919 in Kaukauna, son of t he late Ernest and Gertrude (Esler) Femal. He was united in marriage to Lo is Boon, December 4, 1943, sharing almost 50 years together before her dea th on March 13, 1993.Jim was a navigator on B-17 and B-24 bombers during World War II serving w ith the Army Air Corp in England with the 8th Air Force and in the South P acific. After the war he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison maj oring in Engineering. Jim spent most of his adult life working at the F ox River Boiler Works in Appleton, which was founded by his father, Erne st Femal and Giles Courtney. Later it was owned and operated by brothers J im, Red and Russell Femal until 1986 when it was closed after 61 years.He is survived by his five children: Jef (Patt) Femal of Menasha, Catheri ne Femal of Oshkosh, Mark Femal of Madison, Mary (Gary) Carlson of Minneap olis, MN and William (Kristy) Femal of Plainfield; 12 grandchildren: Joell e, Jupy, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Michael, Kevin, Matthew, Jessica, Christophe r, Garrett, David and Parker; one great-granddaughter, Lauren; a sister-in -law: Mary Femal of Appleton, many nieces and nephews.Preceding James in death were 3 brothers, Bobby, Frances "Red" and Russe ll and a sister Carol Peterson.A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Br ettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Justin Werner of ficiating. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 10 a.m. until the t ime of service.
