Biography:
WILLIAM PETERS, who is now engaged in cultivating a fine farm in Greenville township, also devotes a part of his time to the mason's trade, at which he worked steadily in this section for a number of years. He was born January 20, 1863, in Niagara county, New York, a son of Fred and Fredericka (Schroeder) Peters, natives of Mecklenburg, where the former was born May 7, 1830, and the latter June 3, 1837. Fred Peters spent three years in the German army, and after his marriage came to the United States in 1860, locating near Buffalo, New York. In his native country, Mr. Peters had been a shepherd, and his small savings had been completely used up in making the trip to the new country, his cash possessions on landing here amounting to fifty cents. However, he was willing to work at anything that offered itself, and soon had accumulated enough to bring the family to Milwaukee, in which city they settled in 1865, on the day of the assassination of President Lincoln. They went thence after a short period to Appleton, where Mr. Peters purchased a farm of forty acres in Center township, and the remainder of his life was spent in farming, his holdings at the time of his death, in 1897, being 140 acres of excellent farming land. Mrs. Peters survived her husband until 1909, when she passed away. William Peters was the eldest of a family of nine children, and he attended school in Center township, residing at home until seventeen years of age, at which time he went to Kaukauna and learned the trade of mason, following that occupation in the winter until he was twenty-three years old, and working on farms in the summer months. He then began working steadily at his trade, and for eight years was working on government construction work, on the locks at Kaukauna, the county asylum, the Combined Locks paper mill, Patten's paper mill at Kaukauna, and two years' straight work on a job at Manitowoc. After fourteen years' residence in Kaukauna, he came to his farm in Greenville township, where he has been engaged to the present time, although he occasionally does work at his trade. His eighty acres are well cultivated, and he uses modern machinery in his operations, being engaged in general and dairy farming and also in raising good stock. Mr. Peters is a member of the Lutheran Church, and in his political belief is an independent republican. On December 27, 1885, Mr. Peters was married to Henrietta Longlatz, who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 20, 1863, daughter of George and Erbetena (Pry) Longlatz, the former born in Saxony, Germany, June 27, 1830, and died October 27, 1909, and the latter born in Pomerania, Germany, and still resides in Center township. George Longlatz, who was a, farmer throughout his active career, came to the United States at a very early day, and after a short residence in New Jersey came West to Milwaukee, six years later locating in Outagamie county and purchasing a farm of eighty acres in Center township, where he became a prominent farmer and well-known citizen, serving in various township offices. Mrs. Peters was the second of her parents' four children. Mr. and Mrs. Peters have had thirteen children: George, who is engaged in farming in South Dakota; Elizabeth, Arnold, Walter, Irvin and Florence, residing at home; and seven children who died young.

Biography:
FRANK PETERS, who is cultivating a fine farm of 100 acres in Greenville township, Outagamie county, has been engaged in various occupations since reaching years of maturity, and has now settled down to an agricultural life in which he is having much success. Born in Center township, Outagamie county, May 7, 1871, Mr. Peters is a son of Fred Peters. He attended public school in Appleton, and district school in Center township, and at the age of twenty years he learned the butcher business in Appleton, following that occupation for about one year in that city and then going to Minnesota, where he spent a like period working for others. Returning ts Appleton, he was engaged in tending bar for one year, and he was then married and moved to Kaukauna, where he was engaged in railroad work for about a year, after which he operated a farm in Greenville township for a period of five years. At this time he bought a general merchandise store at Greenville Station, but after less than two years was burned out, and he then rented a building and engaged in the saloon business for six months, when he went to West Bloomfield, Waushara county, and for the two years that followed was the proprietor of a hotel. At this time Mr. Peters came to his present location in Greenville township, where he has an excellent general dairy and stock farm of 100 acres. He was married May 30, 1894, to Miss Mary Knaack, who was born in Ellington township, September 23, 1876, and they have had the following children: Ervin P., born December 10, 1894; Louis, born July 6, 1896; Loreta, born October 15, 1897; Celia, born October 21, 1900; Chester, born Aprill 25, 1902; Viola, born June 14, 1905; Lulu, born October 11, 1907; Victor, born April 18, 1909; and Harold, born October 19, 1910. All of the children are living at home with the exception of Victor, who died June 18, 1909. The family is connected with the Lutheran Church.

Biography:
HERMAN JOHN PETERS, a progressive and industrious young agriculturist of Greenville township, who is the owner of a finely cultivated farm of eighty acres, was born in Center township, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, April 11, 1878, and is a son of Fred and Elenora (Bohl) Peters, natives of Germany. Fred Peters was born in Mecklenburg, May 12, 1827, and his wife June 15, 1837, and they came to the United States in 1863, settling in New York State, where they resided for two years. They then made their way west to Center township, and here bought land and engaged in farming, continuing to reside there until they died, Mr. Peters' death occurring about 1897, and that of his widow October 17, 1908. They were the parents of nine children, of whom Herman John is the youngest. He received his education in the district schools of the neighborhood of his father's farm, and upon attaining his majority continued to work on the home farm for wages for two years, and then purchased the old homestead, which he cultivated until April, 1910, at which time he sold out and bought his present property. This excellent tract of eighty acres has been greatly improved by Mr. Peters, who has remodeled and repaired the buildings and added to the equipment, and it is neatly fenced and presents an appearance that indicates able management. On November 29, 1906, he was married to Augusta Braun, who was born in Saxville township, Waushara county, Wisconsin, May 7, 1886, daughter of August and Elizabeth (Stallmann) Braun, the former born in Pomerania, Germany, October 23, 18---- , and the latter in Waukesha county, Wisconsin, May 1, 18----. They came to Saxville township from Berlin, Wisconsin, where they were married, and resided on the farm until their deaths, the father passing away August 23, 1908, and his wife on the same date. They had thirteen children, Mrs. Peters being the fourth in order of birth. Two of Mrs. Peters' sisters are living with her: Emma, born May 28, 1895, and Lena, born October 8, 1902. Mr. and Mrs. Peters have had two children: Evaline, born May 4, 1908; and Verna, born March 10, 1910. The family is connected with the Ellington Lutheran Church. In political matters, Mr. Peters is independent, and has never aspired to public office.

ALBERT JENTZ has been actively identified with the agricultural interests of Center township for a long period and is now ranked with the successful men of his section. He was born on his present property, September 29, 1872, a son of Frederick and Mary (Peters) Jentz, natives of Germany. Frederick Jentz came to the United States as a young man and for about a year rented farming property in New York, but decided there were more opportunities in the West and subsequently came to Outagamie county at a time when there was but one building in Appleton. He bought land, which was all in timber, cleared a small tract and built a log cabin, and soon had a crop planted. From that time on his advance was rapid, and at the time of his death he was one of the well known and highly esteemed men of his township. He added to his property from time to time, and was elected to positions of honor and trust by his fellow citizens, and when he died, May 8, 1901, the township lost a man whose place it was hard to fill. Mr. Jentz was married in New York State to Mary Peters, who was born in the Fatherland, and had come to this country with her mother some years before. Albert Jentz received his education in the country schools of his neighborhood, attending during the winter months until he was twenty years old, his summers being claimed by the work of the home farm. He was married November 17, 1898, to Elizabeth Jenkel, daughter of John and Catherine Jenkel, who came from Germany to the United States, and settled near Greenville, where Mr. Jenkel became a prosperous farmer. He is now retired from business activities and is living at Center. Mrs. Jentz, who was born September 26, 1876, is one of five children. After the death of his father, Mr. Jentz came into possession of the old homestead, and here he has carried on general farming and dairying. His efforts have met with well-deserved success, as he has inherited from his father many of those sterling traits of character which go to make for success in any line of endeavor. Mr. Jentz is a democrat in politics, his father having been a stanch supporter of the principles of that party. With his wife he attends the Lutheran Church at Ellington. Mr. and Mrs. Jentz have five children; Richard, born October 8, 1899; Amanda, born August 26, 1901; Victor, born February 18, 1903; Martha born May 17, 1904; and Harold, born September 6, 1908.

HERMAN JENTZ, who is carrying on general farming and dairying on his fine property in Center township, has spent his life in agricultural pursuits here, and his activities have been confined to one farm, formerly owned by his father. He was born August 17. 1875, in Center township, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, son of Frederick and Mary (Peters) Jentz. Frederick Jentz was a native of Germany and came to this country when a young man, first settling in New York State, where for a year he rented a farm and operated it. He then came to Outagamie county, Wisconsin, and purchased a tract of wild timber land in Center township, which he cleared from the wilderness. Mr. Jentz was one of the leading farmers of his day in Center township, rising to a place of honor among his fellow citizens through honesty, integrity and upright living. He served for a number of terms as road commissioner, and both in public and private life was a. man of sterling traits of character. His death occurred May 8, 1901, when he was sixty-seven years old, his birth having taken place March 12, 1834. Mr. Jentz married Mary Peters, who was born in December, 1837, in Germany, daughter of Frederick and Maria Peters, the former of whom died in Germany. Mrs. Peters then brought her daughter to the United States, and she was married to Mr. Jentz in New York.
Herman Jentz secured his education in the district schools in Center township, and as was the custom of farmers' sons at that time, he started to assist in the duties of the home place as soon as he was tall enough to reach the plow handles. He was reared to the life of an agriculturist, and he has put the knowledge gained by years of experience to good use, farming along scientific lines and profiting thereby. He is a democrat in his political belief, his father having been a supporter of the principles of that organization. His religious connection is with the Lutheran church at Ellington.

She was born July 9, 1918, in Green Valley, daughter of the late Herman and Augusta (Braun) Peters. She married Gilbert J. Uhlenbrauck, June 30, 1948, in Black Creek, sharing 33 years together before his death April 26, 1982. Laurinda enjoyed gardening, flowers, walking and bowling. She was also known as the "book lady" while volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul in Appleton for many years.
Laurinda is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Donna Uhlenbrauck of Appleton and Phyllis (Donald) Haugen of Menomonee Falls; and three grandchildren: Brent Uhlenbrauck, Mathew Haugen and Nathan Haugen.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Sylvester and Floyd; and four sisters: Evelyn Kiehnau, Eleanor Zibell, Verna Hameister and Verona Lambie.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Black Creek, with the Rev. John Brandt officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association.

On August 18th, 1945, Marie was united in marriage to Carlyle Spreeman, he preceded her in death in 2002. She was a well known quilter; she also enjoyed gardening, flowers and cooking.
Marie is survived by daughters, Pat (Larry) Guerin, Knoxville, TN; Bev Spreeman (special friend, Martin Jansen) New London; Deb (Ron) Dretzke, New London; sons, Ed (Rosey) Spreeman, West Bend; Tom (Kitty) Spreeman, Reno, NV; sister, Maizie (Paul) Nilles, Westminster, CO; sister-in-law, Ginny Peters, Greenville. She is further survived by fourteen grandchildren , eleven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers, Bob, Dick and Bill and also other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held for Marie on Thursday, February 12th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London, with Rev. William Heiges officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Appleton.

Lorraine H. Schaffer, age 93, of Chilton, formerly of Hilbert, died on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. Daughter of the late Louis & Elsie (Palmbach) Huebner, Lorraine was born in the town of Greenville on September 30, 1918. She became a child of God through her Holy Baptism on October 20, 1918 and Confirmed her Faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenville on October 25, 1931. Lorraine was a woman of faith who publicly confessed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was faithful to that promise to the end of her life. On May 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Matthew M. Schaffer in the parsonage of Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton by Rev. Ziedle. Her union of 45 years was strengthened and blessed by God with 2 daughters and 2 sons. Mrs. Schaffer was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert where she also belonged to the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Senior Citizen Club of Hilbert. Lorraine was a graduate of Appleton High School, class of 1936. She attended Bowlby's Business College and graduated in 1938. She worked for Service Bakery and AAL. In 1960, she began working at the Calumet Medical Center where she remained for 24 years. Lorraine was known for her fabulous cooking and baking. She would frequently make large meals for the many thrashing crews and other farm help who worked with her family and the Saturday morning cinnamon rolls were legendary. Luther "Mike" G. Huebner passed away at his Hortonville apartment on April 4, 2012, at the age of 91. He had been weakened by recent stomach surgery but had worked diligently with the staff at Rennes Health and Rehab Center and had achieved his goal of independent living.
Luther was born on January 6, 1921, in the Township of Greenville, Wisconsin, as the son of Louis and Elsie Huebner. He was raised on the family dairy farm in the Town of Greenville along with five siblings. He attended the one room Cedar Grove Elementary School and graduated from Appleton (West) High School.
Luther married Ada E. Baehman on September 9, 1944 at Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church in Hortonville, WI. Luther and Ada were long time members of Bethlehem where he served several terms on the church council.
Luther took over the family farm from his father Louis and was a successful farmer. He eventually sold the farm to his brother, Gerald, and moved to Hortonville in 1955. Luther then operated "Mike's Finer Foods," a general store/meat locker in Medina, WI. The emergence of "supermarkets" brought an end to country general stores and Luther sold his store in 1965. He began a third career as a school supply salesman. He first worked with Fond du Lac School Supply Co. and then greatly enjoyed his many years of employment with Valley School Supply until his retirement.
Luther was active in local school boards serving multiple terms on the school boards of the Hortonville Union School District and Fox Valley Lutheran High School in the 1950's and 60's. He was school board president of the Hortonville School District.
Luther was a strong, extroverted and vigorous man who loved sports. He and his brother Gerald were avid baseball players as young men. They played many country hardball games in the Greenville area. He was a life long Packer fan and began attending games at age 16. He purchased season tickets in 1945 and attended games faithfully through this past season. He could recall seeing each of the Packer's Hall of Fame players and coaches at some point in his 75 years of game attendance. Luther took up golf in his late 40's, after the Grandview Golf Course was built in Hortonville. He developed a passion for the game and still enjoyed playing at the age of 90.
Luther is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ada and four sons; Michael (Carol) of Hortonville, Rodney (Michele) of Middleton, Randal (Sonya) of Madison, and Scott (Elaine) of Rothschild. Luther had four grandchildren: Katherine, David, Benjamin and Rachel Huebner; two step-granddaughters Kimberley Brzozwski and Jennifer Valeri, and four step great grandchildren Tyler, Anna, Mya, and Evelyn. He has a surviving sister, Mae Baehman of Hortonville.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Elsie Huebner; a brother Gerald Huebner; sisters Edith Kalbus, Adeline Jooss, and Lorraine Schafer; and a beloved daughter, Yvonne Huebner.
The Christian funeral service for Luther will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 9, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville. Visitation will be held at the church before the service from 9 - 11:00 A.M.
Luther's family would like to thank the Medical staff at Appleton Medical Center and the staff at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center for their exemplary care.
Special thanks also go to the staff at Patti's Place in Hortonville for their kindness and friendship to Luther over the years.

Mae Alma Baehman, age 91, passed away at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation Center in Appleton, on Friday, May 1, 2015. Mae was born the youngest of 6, to the late Louis and Elsie (Huebner) Palmbach (INCORRECT - Louis Huebner and Elsie Palmbach) on September 12, 1923, in the Town of Greenville. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenville. Mae attended Cedar Grove School and then graduated from Appleton West High School in 1941. She worked at Zwickers, Golden State and Fox River knitting mills in Appleton. Mae was married to Leonard Baehman, of the Town of Hortonia, on June 8, 1946. They were married for 61 years. They bought a farm in the town of Dale and when Len retired in 1981, they built a house on the farm. Mae was an active member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville, where she was very active in the Ladies Aid. Mae loved to garden, crochet and was an avid reader. She also loved all her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a strong faith in her Savior.
Mae is survived by her children; Bruce (Dolly) Baehman, Karla (Bruce) Kehl, Dean (Barb) Baehman and Cindy (Jack) Uhlenbrauck; grandchildren; Jessie Baehman (Jason Goszkowski), Lance Brenneke (Deborah), Corey Baehman, Seth Baehman (Lisa), Trevor Baehman (Heidi), Shane Brenneke (BJ), Brooke Jones (Brandon), Laura Borree (Joel), Theresa Evenson (Fred), Greg Baehman, Kelsey and Katie Uhlenbrauck; great-grandchildren; Eryk, Lilly, Emily, Liam, Baya, Collin, Jace, Hunter, Connor, Alivia, Jarek, Jaeli n, Max, Ty, Marlie, Josiah, Jarius, Joelle and Justus; sisters-in-law; Ada Huebner and Helen Baehman. Gordon L. Peters, age 81, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2009. He was born November 15, 1927, to the late Ludwig "Louis" and Kathryn (Bosch) Peters, in Appleton, where he was a resident all of his life. Gordy served with the U. S. Navy during WW II, in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Phaeon, Hector and ARD-15. He was a life member and three-time commander of Grand Chute VFW Post #8642 and a member of the Appleton American Legion Post #38. Gordy was very involved in the VFW and veteran's affairs, their poppy sales and cherished his friendships with his comrades. He was a manufacturing engineer with Appleton Mills where he was employed for 44 years. Gordy enjoyed the outdoors his entire life and loved hunting, fishing and gardening, along with a lifelong interest in antique tractors and farm machinery. He was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Appleton Mills Quarter Century Club.
Family meant everything to Gordy and he was very proud of his two daughters: Kathleen Schommer and Ardyce Peters, his son-in-law, Michael Schommer, his only grandchild, Sara (Neil) Brandon and his two great-granddaughters: Athena and Ella. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Janet Halverson; three brothers-in-law: Allen "Tony" (Joyce) Vogel, William (Marliese) Vogel, Pat Forni; special friend and caregiver, Cathy Clark; special friend, Mary Vij; special neighbors and friends, Phil and Regina Zuleger; his special friends on Lake Poygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne E. Peters, April 25, 2009, and two sisters, Ardyce (Tom) Peterman and Lois Forni.
The funeral liturgy for Gordon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, with Father Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Janet Grace Zwicker died Sunday, August 28, 2016 with family members and her puppy Fritzy at her side. She was born on March 5, 1934 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Chester and Amanda (Roth) Peters. On July 22nd 1950 she married the love of her life, David Lyle Zwicker and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Together they raised their six children.
Janet was a devoted wife and mother, an accomplished cook and dedicated home maker. She was a member of the Appleton Yacht Club, belonged to the Manhattan Dance Club and provided desserts for Faith Lutheran Church. She also completed the Dale Carnegie course, How to Win Friends and Influence People.
She will be remembered for her knowledge of herbs and the wonderful herb garden that gave the perfect touch to her culinary meals. Her unique sense of humor was infectious and put people at ease wherever she went. She was also a faithful servant of the Lord. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23:4.
Janet and Dave lived in Appleton and Egg Harbor. They enjoyed their summer home in Door County with its beautiful flower beds and scenic water views. The cottage provided many family memories throughout their life.

Marie M. Krause, age 87, Appleton, went to her eternal life peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Kindred Hearts-Greenville. She was born October 16, 1927 in Appleton, the daughter of Franklin and Lula (Peters) Diestler. Marie married Carlie Krause on August 28, 1948, at Mount Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. Marie was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. She was employed by Kimberly Clark and AAL (Thrivent) prior to the birth of her children. Later in life she volunteered for Respite Care VNA and the Ladies Aid at church. Marie was an avid bowler and a less than terrific golfer, but was always ready for a round. She never let her husband forget the hole in one she made. They loved to travel and always had stories of good times on the road and around the world. Friday nights were always reserved for a fish fry with family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie was a loving, kind and thoughtful person and always passed this on to others. She was a joy to be with no matter what was happening in her life. "Mom, you will never be forgotten. Ramona D. Moser, age 77, of Appleton, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Ramona was born November 19, 1930, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Franklin and Lula (Peters) Diestler Sr. She resided in Appleton all of her life and was employed at Appleton Wire Works for 20 years, retiring in 1985. On August 14, 1965, Ramona was united in marriage to Alfred W. Moser, sharing 15 years together before his death in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter Kathleen (Raymond) Miller, Hortonville; a grand daughter, Tracy (Richard) Tess, Redlands, CA; two sisters: Marie Krause and Linda Spielmann, both of Appleton; a brother, Franklin (Jo Ann) Diestler Jr., Greenville; other relatives and her beloved cat Sam.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ramona was preceded in death by an infant brother Chester Diestler.

Leroy F. "Roy" Bungert, 88, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 while a patient at Thunderbird Palliative Care Unit Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, AZ. Roy was born on January 2, 1929 in Appleton, WI, attending grade school and high school there, prior to becoming a dairy farmer. Upon moving to Arizona he worked for the original A.L. Moore and Sons Mortuary for 29 years. Roy was a vital and beloved member of the staff of A.L. Moore and Sons where he made first calls, ran death certificates, drove limousines, delivered obituaries to the Arizona Republic, assisted in running funeral services, was a fine handyman, and at Christmas delivered cases of See's candy from the office to all those affiliated with the mortuary. His hobby was the cabin he built outside of Prescott, where he and his friend Don Van Camp spent many summers. Preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hazel. He is survived by his sister, Margy (Glen) Schrubbe, and his devoted caregiver and longtime friend from their 29 years together at A.L Moore and Sons, Mary Faye Lopez and his little dog, Sally. He served his country for nine years in the Wisconsin National Guard, and spent time as active duty during the Berlin Crisis.
Throughout Merle's career, he worked as an office manager at Serv-Us Bakers, Vice President and Treasurer at Home Savings and Loan, and office manager at Fox Valley Truck, retiring in April of 2001. He continued to be co-owner of Master Lube with his son, which they started in 1989. Merle also put in countless hours as a volunteer at the United Way Committee Fund, Sexual Assault Crisis Center, Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Fox Valley Lutheran High School Foundation, Bethany Lutheran Church and the Appleton Kiwanis Club. He was extremely dedicated to all of his service clubs.
In his free time, Merle enjoyed skiing, fishing with family and friends, bowling, golfing, playing sheepshead and cribbage and attending Packers games as a long time season ticket holder. Together, Merle and Mary enjoyed traveling, taking two trips to Switzerland and most recently a trip to the Holy Lands of Egypt and Israel for their 50th wedding anniversary. They also enjoyed car shows. Merle was very proud of his 1957 Chevy Bel Air. He was a true gentleman, and will be deeply missed.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years, Mary; his children: Joy (Joe) Gitter, Steven (Lori) Weihing and Ellen (Brian) Gruendemann; grandchildren: Kayla and Courtney Weihing and Cory and Curt Gruendemann; siblings: Ila Abitz, Glenn (Charlene) Weihing, Bruce Weihing, Barb Weihing and Gary (Rosann) Weihing; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joanne (Pat) Grady, Molly Weylandt and Jeanine (George) Piotrowski; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Gordon Weihing, Helen Weihing and twin sister, Marion Weihing; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lester Abitz, Marie (Vic) Van Remortel, Violet (Marvin) Puymbroek, John (Doris) Petersen, Hilda (Lester) Bahrke and Phil Weylandt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 530 W. Parkway Blvd., Appleton. Center Valley - Carol Jean Schabo, age 71, of Center Valley, passed away, Thursday afternoon, Jan 18, 2018, at ThedaCare, Appleton, due to recent illness. She was born Carol Jean Weihing on July 20, 1946, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to parents Marvin and Laura (Harp) Weihing. Carol married Clark Schabo May 11, 1968, and their marriage was blessed by two children, Lorie and Kevin. In addition to her over 40 years of work with Schabo Printing, a printing business she co-owned with her husband, Carol was employed over the years at Sammy's Pizza, Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial), Valley Bank (later M & I Bank), Valley Trust, Progress in Paper Recycling, Doshi Associates, NORC, and RTI. She was an avid baker and cook, and did a great deal of sewing, crafting, and canning, preserving the vegetables and fruit from their enormous home garden. Carol enjoyed camping, reading, and was a talented artist, primarily working in colored pencil and pastel. She shared this talent especially with her son, Kevin. Carol was an incredibly devoted mother raising her children, and her time with her grandchildren, in later years, brought her joy.
She will be sadly missed by her family -- her husband, Clark; her children, Lorie (Thomas) Grabowski and Kevin (Anjie) Schabo; her grandchildren, Emma and Abby Grabowski, and Evan and McKenna Schabo; and cousin, through marriage, Wally Osterlund. Carol has one brother, Wayne Weihing, living in Ketchikan, Alaska; his children are Susan (Don) Demers, Yvonne Ripley, and Chris (Franny) Weihing. She also has brothers- and sisters-in-law, Judy (Schabo) and Leo Riehl and Mark and Bev (Brown) Schabo, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Laura (Harp) Weihing, her father- and mother-in-law, Harry and Bernice (Kolberg) Schabo, her cousin and close friend, Betty (Green) Osterlund, and special friends Judy Schlintz and Sandy Kasten.

Glen H. Peters, 67, of Shiocton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on January 20, 1943, in Black Creek, WI; son of the late Sylvester and Marie (Voster) Peters. Glen worked in the retail grocery business much of his life, and at one time was part-owner in his own grocery store. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.

Ruth Louise Schroeder Freiburger of Appleton, aged eighty-nine, passed away August 10 at Anderson Hospice in Madison after a brief illness. She was born in the Town of Center on December 4, 1920, to William and Laura Schulze Schroeder. She was baptized in a German service, December 26, 1920, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Emil Redlin. Her sponsors were her Grandpa Charles Schroeder, Grandma Louise Schulze and Aunt Alma Beyer. She and her parents were joined by her sisters Marie Emma, Arline Grace, a brother William C., sisters Muriel Marian and Ila Mae and finally by Robert Elmer. Her parents farmed in the Town of Center until 1947.
Ruth attended Hillsdale School, along with many of her cousins, about a half-mile from home, where she received a grade school education and helped to stoke the wood stove. Her education took only six years as she skipped second grade and passed the high school entry exam while in seventh grade. She graduated from Appleton High School and has attended many recent reunions. Ruth continued her education at Outagamie Rural Normal in Kaukauna for two years to become a licensed teacher, then took her first job at Cicero Graded School where she taught the first four grade levels. At a teachers meeting she met John Peter Freiburger of New London. They had their first date on Sunday, December 7, 1941. Both the Second World War and their relationship started that day, both lasting a long time and turning out well in the end. Ruth and John were married June 30, 1945, and honeymooned on Long Island at the home of John's brother George Freiburger. They returned to Wisconsin to live in Chilton where they spent the next thirty-three years, making hundred of friends. A son Steven was born September 27, 1946, and a daughter, Beth Ellen, June 4, 1950. Ruth edited the Chilton Times Journal, was stringer and photographer for several papers and then began teaching at New Holstein in 1955. She earned a B.A. at UW-Oshkosh and became the federal Title I and Title II grant administrator for the New Holstein School District.
She was instrumental in raising funds for a hospital for Chilton, ran the hospital gift shop for many years and helped organize the Chilton American Field Service chapter to bring international students to the schools. She organized a women's basketball league, played tennis, bowled and played golf for many decades. She loved to play bridge, a game she played competitively until a few weeks ago. John and Ruth moved to Florida in 1978 when they both retired. She continued her community work as president of LaSertoma, a library organizer and volunteer teacher at St. Anthony's School. Upon John's death, Ruth returned to Appleton where she has resided at the Touchmark retirement community for the last five years.
Ruth is survived by her children, Steven (Betsy) Freiburger of Fitchburg and Beth Schroeder (Brian Washburn) of Newton, Massachusetts, and granddaughter Therese of Park City, Utah. She is also survived by her sisters Arline Dabill of Neenah and Ila Mae Hanson of Greenville and her brother William Schroeder of Appleton.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and a brother Robert and sisters Muriel and Marie.
Ruth lived her life with a lively intelligence, with grace, hospitality and community service. She was blessed with a large extended family, which came to include cousins, nieces, nephews and their children, many of whom took the time to visit her in her retirement and gladden her days. We will miss her store of memories, card games and brandy old-fashioned sweets, but rejoice that she had so many days with us, if through tears.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 15 from 2 to 5 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 North Richmond St., Appleton. Visitation will also be at St Mary's Church, 312 S. State Street, Appleton, from 10 to 11 with a service at 11 on Monday, August 16.
Memorials will be given to The Hickory Knoll Fund, a 501C3 charitable organization run by her family, to continue her work in education.

Marie E. Schroeder-Angell, 85, Appleton, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008. She was born in the Town of Center in 1922, the second of seven siblings to William C. Schroeder Sr. and Laura Schulze. Marie worked for Kimberly-Clark for over 40 years retiring in 1987. She was a Moose Lodge member and sang with the Sweet Adelines. Marie volunteered at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and was an avid bowler.
Marie is survived by a brother, Bill Schroeder Jr.; three sisters: Ruth Freiburger, Arline (David) Dabill and Ila Mae (Dean) Hanson. She is further survived by 8 nieces, 7 nephews and many great-nieces and -nephews, friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bobby Schroeder, sister Muriel Holz and a brother-in-law, John Freiburger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Appleton with the Rev. Darin Aden officiating. Appleton - William C. Schroeder Jr., 91, , of Appleton, WI and Spring Hill, FL, died January 17, 2018 at his home in Spring Hill, FL. Bill was born on April 2, 1926, on the family farm, in the Town of Center to the late William and Laura (Schulze) Schroeder. Bill spent his childhood on his parent's farm and attended the local one room school house, through eighth grade. Always ambitious, he worked for his father during the day, but had permission to use the tractor at night to earn extra income working for neighbors. Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and while stationed for part of his duty in Alaska, developed an interest in modular housing. After demobilization, his father joined him in Schroeder Enterprises and they constructed homes together. Looking for new opportunities, he ventured into a little company called Valley Packaging which had begun as a "sheltered workshop". Bill developed Valley Packaging into a highly successful employer through innovation and strong salesmanship, enriching hundreds of lives by providing meaningful employment for both disabled and abled bodied workers.
In his spare time and after retirement Bill loved to be outdoors, be it fishing, hunting or just watching the wildlife around his homes. His other enjoyments were playing cards and of course his 5 o'clock toddy.
Bill will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Menji and his children: Sharon, Jacob and Maria; sister Arline (Schroeder) Dabill; Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, cousins and close friends.

Ila Mae (Schroeder) Hanson, 82, Greenville, at home with her family by her side was called to her heavenly home to be with God and her beloved husband on Nov. 12, 2011. She was born on July 23, 1929, the youngest daughter of William and Laura (Schulze) Schroeder. She was baptized Aug. 2, 1929, and confirmed April 8, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Ellington.
She married Dean Roger Hanson on Oct. 10, 1959, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Neenah. Throughout their marriage they raised four children and enjoyed spending time with their eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild and she was looking forward to her second great-grandchild in May. In her younger years, Ila enjoyed participating in many sports including softball, curling, bowling, golfing and tennis. Later she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren engage in sports and school activities. Ila was also devoted to watching sports on TV, especially her beloved Packers, and playing cards and Rummy Cube with anyone who was willing. Everyone who spent time with Ila knew her loving, caring, compassionate nature and her appreciation of watching all of her backyard animals (Louie the Squirrel and Big Red the Cardinal). As she was a devoted mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren.
Ila attended Hillsdale School, along with many of her sisters and brothers and graduated from Appleton Sr. High in 1947. She was employed by the CIA, Home Mutual insurance, Meyers Press, AAL and Valley Packaging. Later, she enjoyed driving bulk milk truck with her husband for 14 years.
Ila is lovingly survived by her three daughters, Susan (Michael) Bronk, Greenville; Debra Hanson (James Geitner), Greenville; Patti (Tim) Smits, Greenville; one son, Robert Hanson, Appleton; eight grandchildren, Brittany (Derek) Kornfehl, Crystal Reiter, Jenna Bronk, Alyssa Bronk, Justin Bronk, Tommy Kent and Kimberlie Kent (Jan Slater), all of Greenville; and Tyler Smits, Menominee; one great-grandchild, Dayton Kornfehl and a second great-grandchild expected in May. She is survived by her one brother, Bill (Menji) Schroeder, Appleton; one sister, Arline (David) Dabill, Neenah; one sister-in-law, Carol Hanson, Oshkosh; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all thank God for the blessing of the time they had with her here on Earth.

Lloyd C. Schroeder, 81, Appleton passed away Monday, November 23, 2009, at his home. He was born August 4, 1928, to the late Elmer and Emma (Knaack) Schroeder in the Town of Center. Lloyd married Phyllis Ziegler on December 30, 1948, in Hortonville and she preceded him in death November 19, 2005. He retired after nearly 40 years of work at American Can as a receiving clerk. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of the Fox Valley and was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He enjoyed riding motorcycle and snowmobile and was a member of the Fox Valley Riders and Retreads and Hill and Valley Snowmobile Clubs.

Carol Jean Shepardson, age 72, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her family at her side. The new address for the retired Postmaster of Hortonville is Heaven. She was born October 16, 1939 in the town of Center, daughter of the late Elmer and Emma (Knaack) Schroeder. Carol was a 1957 Hortonville High School graduate. She served as the Postmaster of Hortonville until her retirement, and loved to travel the world over.
Carol is lovingly survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lori (Scott) Whitman, Hortonville; and the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Linsi, Lucas and Leesa Whitman and Jason Shepardson. Age 89, Stevens Point, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009 in Stevens Point. She was born on April 19, 1920 in the Town of Ellington, the daughter of the late Emil and Marie (Ort) Jentz. She was married on October 8, 1938 to Gerald W. Huebner and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 1995. Evelyn spent 45 years as a wife and partner helping on the family farm. But above all, she was a loving and caring mother to her family of four sons. She was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Greenville. She is survived by her four sons: Larry and Judi, Plover; Wayne and Joyce, Marinette; Kenneth and Carla, Three Lakes; Roger and Linda, Waukesha; a brother Jerry (Irene) Jentz; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law Luther (Ada) Huebner; sisters-in-law Lorraine Schaffer and Mae Baehman. Jerald A. Jentz March 10, 1925 - March 6, 2012 Age 86 of Greenville, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on March 6, 2012. Jerald was born on March 10, 1925, to Emil and Marie (Ort) Jentz in the township of Ellington. On October 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Irene Beyer. He farmed in the town of Greenville until his sons took over. He then started Jentz Sand & Gravel with his son, Tom. Jerald served on the church council at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the school board of Cedar Grove School for many years. He also served on the Greenville town board from 1971 until he retired in 1993. For many years he led the Greenville homecoming parade riding his horse Bucky. Jerald enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Conover and elk hunting in Colorado. Jerald is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene; four sons, Tom (June) Jentz, Jim (Deb) Jentz, Steve Jentz, and Jeff (Cindy) Jentz; daughter, Kris (Paul) Jandourek; grandchildren, Shane Jentz and Dr. Amy Jentz, Rory Jentz, Janelle Jentz, and Amanda (Dominic) La Pean, Christopher (Adrienne), Elainna, Mackenzie, Mollie, and Wyatt Jentz, Katie (Ed Davis, Jr.) and Andrew Jandourek, Justin, Tyler, Holly, and Stephanie Jentz; four great-grandsons, Ryland and Trevin LaPean, Ward Davis, and Steven G. Donald A. Plamann 75, Appleton, passed away Tuesday November 6, 2007 at Brewster Village after numerous health problems over the past ten years. He was born May 9, 1932 to the late Arthur and Linda (Jentz) Plamann in the Town of Grand Chute. Don worked on the family farms his entire life. He was in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church. Don was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.
He is survived by his sisters: Lucille Schroeder, Greenville and Arlene (Bob) Huebner, Appleton; sister-in-law Adeline Plamann, Appleton; nieces and nephews: Gary Schroeder, Judy Lynn (Ken) Schermitzler, Melissa Huebner, David (Barb) Plamann, Larry (Mary Jo) Plamann, Keith (Gina) Plamann and Roger Plamann.

James Mathew Schaffer, age 58, of Hilbert, died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at his home in Hilbert. He was born April 17, 1955 in Appleton, son of the late Mathew & Lorraine (Huebner) Schaffer. Jim had been a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hilbert where he was baptized into Christ's family, confirmed, and married Patricia Maas on May 22, 1982. He further served the congregation by volunteering on the Finance Committee for many years. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Hilbert High School, the class of 1973.
Jim had worked on the family farm and as a welder/metal fabricator first at Arien's Co. in Brillion, then at MEGTec Systems in De Pere.
Jim was a member of the Hilbert JC's, the OxBow Sportsman Club, and enjoyed time he spent in the Boar's Nest.
He was a people person who sought out the good in everyone he met., He was a good natured story teller and could always be recognized by his hearty laugh. In his free time Jim enjoyed playing Sheepshead, giving hay rides with his John Deere Tractors, collecting coins, driving snowmobile and hunting.
Above all else, he loved every moment he had with his family. His favorite holiday was Independence Day at the family farm, especially watching fireworks. Jim will be missed greatly by those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife: Patricia; his children: Sarah (Brennan) Nau of Oshkosh, Kate (Jason) Mowry of Cedar Falls, IA, Ellen (Shawn) Niemann of Luxemburg, Lt. Joshua Schaffer of Ft. Yvonne Jean Huebner, of Milwaukee, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, at the age of 62, after a year-long battle with cancer. Yvonne was born in New London, WI, on Aug 3, 1945. She was raised in Hortonville and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School. She graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton. She received a Bachelors Degree from UW Oshkosh and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Yvonne was a Sales Representative for Russel Metals Williams Bahcall for 30 years and had many loyal business associates. Yvonne was active in WELS church activities. She enjoyed golf, playing bridge with friends, and caring for her home and garden.
She will be sadly missed by her parents, Luther and Ada Huebner, Hortonville; brothers: Michael J. (Carol) Huebner, Hortonville; Rodney R. (Michele) Huebner, Middleton; Randal L. Vicki Jean Jentz was called to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, March 24, 2016, surrounded by her family. Vicki was 63 and had struggled with an aggressive cancer for two years. She was born in Appleton on July 5, 1952, daughter of the late Lester and Dorothy (Schroeder) Warning. A 1970 graduate of Hortonville High School, she quickly found work at the former Aid Association for Lutherans, now known as Thrivent. She worked at Thrivent for twenty-eight years in all, having taken some time off for the birth of her boys, and retired in 2012. On July 17 of 1971, she and her high school sweetheart Bob Jentz, married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville.
Vicki had more recently been a faithful member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Greenville, enjoyed time at the family's cabin near Aniwa, and shopping for antiques. For over twenty years, she and Bob were annual visitors to Rhinelander's Hodag Music Festival - they never missed it! Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered by all as a generous woman who always had time for others. Many knew her as their "go-to" person when they had a problem or concern. Her caring way, comforting manner, and sympathetic ear endeared her to many.
She will be missed by her loving husband: Robert Jentz of Appleton; two sons: Brian Jentz of Appleton and Brad Jentz of Grand Chute; a granddaughter: Taylor Jentz; a sister and two brothers: Nancy (Dave) Gosse of Mercer; Roger (Cindy) Warning of Hortonville; and Randy (Lori) Warning of Hortonville; three brothers-in-law: Dan (Lesly) Jentz of Barrington, Illinois; Mark (Pam) Jentz of Appleton; and Jerry McKeever of Hortonville; her mother-in-law: Elaine Jentz of Appleton; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, her son Benjamin in 1986, a sister Sandy McKeever in 2005, and her father-in-law Harlon Jentz in 2006, and her beloved Labrador companion, Cheyenne.
The Christian Memorial Service for Vicki will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at IMMANUEL EV. LUTHERAN CHUCH, W7265 School Road in Greenville, with Rev. John Qualmann officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday, April 2, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Robert L. Lippert, age 62, Neenah, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 following a five year battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. Bob was born June 16, 1951, the son of Kenneth and Marian (Schroeder) Lippert.
Bob graduated from Neenah High School, class of 1969. He married Darlyn Lemke on April 7, 1979. They lived together in Denver, CO, for 10 years before moving back to Neenah. Bob retired from Appleton Papers after 19 years of employment.
Bob loved camping, fishing, the Packers and the Denver Broncos.
Survivors include his wife, Darlyn; two children: Emily Rae (Brandon) Kiefer, Ross Michael Lippert; a grandson, Liam Robert Kiefer; his father, Ken Lippert; a brother, Dick (Karen) Lippert; and two sisters: Shirley (Randy) Gerrits, and Marilyn (Ralph) Stadler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother.
A memorial service will be held at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 4:00 PM, with Rev. Mike Huff officiating. The visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
