    Sexton, George D. Chester, Vermont
    George D. Sexton, 78, died Tuesday evening, July 29, 2008, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born January 16, 1930, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the son of Francis and Matilda ( Schmit ) Sexton. He attended and graduated High School in Clintonville, Wisconsin, and in 1950 graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.
    Mr. Sexton served in the Korean War with the 10th Mt. Division of the United States Army.
    He was married to Rosann Heinritz on June 29, 1957, in Appleton, Wisconsin. The Sextons resided in Appleton, Wisconsin, Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Darien, Connecticut, before moving to Chester, Vermont, in 1980.
    Mr. Sexton was employed as National Sales Manager for the Marathon Paper Company from 1958 to 1971 when the company was purchased by American Can. Mr. Sexton served as National Director of Paper Packaging from 1971 until his retirement in 1980.
    In 1980 the Sextons moved to Vermont and purchased Penelope's/McKinley's Restaurant in Springfield, Vermont, which they owned and operated from 1980 until 2001.
    Mr. Sexton was Past Vice President of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and Past Treasurer and Board Member of the Springfield Regional Development Corporation. He was a Boy Scout Leader for several years in Darien, Connecticut, and a member of the American Tree Farmers Association.
    Mr. Sexton had a life long love of animals, especially dogs, and the Sextons bred and raised Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Mr. Sexton was an active member of the American Kennel Club for 30 years, and the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club's delegate to the A.K.C. He was a member of the Woodstock Dog Club and President of the Vermont Dog Federation. Mr. Sexton enjoyed fly fishing wood carving, skiing and managing his wood lot.
    He is survived by his wife Rosann of Chester; a son, David Sexton and Deb Zellner of Londonderry, VT; three daughters: Anne Bryan and husband Denver of Bozeman, MT; Kathleen Hines and husband Brian of Manchester, MA; and Megan Brendel and husband John of Norwich, VT; five grandchildren: Thomas Hines, Daniel Sexton Hines and Peter Hines, all of Manchester, MA; and Adeline Brendel and John "Jack" Brendel of Norwich, VT.
    He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sexton.
    In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the U.S. Inc. Rescue, P.O. Box 39108, Washington, D.C. 20016-9180; or to the Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.
    Friends may call on Friday evening from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, VT. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Springfield, VT. Reverend Peter Williams pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Chester, VT.
