The gradi ng of the railroad was done in the summer of 1881, and the rails were la id that fall. The townsite was platted in the fall of 1881. It is twelve m iles north of Aberdeen. A trial trip was made by train to Frederick in t he fall of 1881. Among the passengers was a Mrs. McHugh of Aberdeen. (Marg aret Ringrose McHugh)

    Obituary:
Death Ends Active Life Of Mrs. Lincoln
Years of a long life of activity in the pioneer days of Aberdeen and of quiet and unheralded charity ended Sunday evening when Mrs. Isaac Lincoln died after an illness of several months at the age of 87.
Death struck in a pronged tragedy at the Lincoln home, for Monday word came of the death on the Belgian battle front of a grandson, Pvt. Hugh McHugh, youngest son of Mrs. Lincoln's son, Phillip M. McHugh. Mr. McHugh left for his home in New York Sunday afternoon after a visit with his mother but was notified of her death en route and returned from Minneapolis Monday afternoon. While he was on the train returning to Aberdeen his wife telephoned from New York the news of the boy's death in action and the sad word was waiting the father upon his arrival.
Mrs. Lincoln was of the pioneer generation that helped develop the town that became the Aberdeen of today. She was active in the early business life of the city as proprietor of the Sherman Department store, a leading establishment until it was destroyed in the burning of the original Sherman hotel. Always a part of the community and social life, Mrs. Lincoln shared the friendship of many and spread about her the beneficence of her interest in others. Until her years precluded it she was active in the growth of Sacred Heart church and the services of St. Luke's hospital, where she joined with Mrs. J. H. Jackson, Mrs. H. C. Jewett, Sr., and Miss Mary Sullivan in the gift of a chapel. From the time of the gift of Sacred Heart cemetery by Maurice Ringrose, who became the first to rest there, Mrs. Lincoln has been president of the cemetery association. She was a charter member of the Catholic Research society.
As Margaret C. Ringrose, Mrs. Lincoln was born in Appleton, Wis., Nov. 8, 1857, one of a family of nine children. She moved to Aberdeen in 1883 and as did many others of the newcomers took up a homestead. Hers was a love of the land that found joy in the development with Mr. Lincoln of the famed Lincoln ranch in this county. She was married to P.J. McHugh in Aberdeen and the family moved to Hastings, Minn., where Mr. McHugh died Feb. 3, 1889. Two sons were born there, Phillip M. McHugh, now of New York City, and Frank J. McHugh of Aberdeen. Two sons and a great-grandson comprise the Phil McHugh family.
In 1898 Mrs. McHugh and the boys returned to Aberdeen, joining her brother, James Ringrose, proprietor of the Sherman hotel. She opened the Sherman Department store, which became a unique institution in the business life of the town.
In 1906 she became the wife of Isaac Lincoln, pioneer banker, sharing until his death in the varied activities of his busy career.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., requiem high mass being sung at Sacred Heart church.
Rosary will be at the home, 709 Kline st. s. at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. It is the request of the family that no flowers be sent.
