    John, age 79, and Betty, age 78, died on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, as the result of an automobile accident near Shawano. John was born on January 18, 1930, at home in the Township of Maine, son of the late Alpheus and Alyce (Conlon) Carpenter. Betty was born on December 18, 1930, in Appleton, daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Lettman) King. John was a graduate of Shiocton High School in 1947 and was a Golden Glove Boxer during high school. Betty also attended Shiocton High School.
    After graduating, John attended University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and in 1949 entered the US Army Division 508 Airborne and was honorably discharged in 1952. Betty worked at her parents restaurant and Riverside Paper Company.
    John and Betty were united in marriage on November 1, 1951, at the family homestead in the Township of Maine. Betty later moved to Georgia to be with John when he was stationed there. When returning to Shiocton, John worked as an Outagamie County Patrol office. John and Betty also owned and operated Carpenter Bar in Shiocton for 35 years until his retirement to the family farm.
    John was an avid hunter and bowler and was well known as a local umpire. He was a member of the Post 512 and the Honor Guard and also the American Legion Shiocton.
    Betty was currently employed at Wal-Mart in New London, in the fabric department for the past 20 years. She enjoyed bowling, sewing crafts, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her customers and friends at Wal-Mart. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
    They are survived by three daughters: Linda (Brian) Ritchie, Shiocton; Wanda (Robert) Schneider, Shiocton; Carla (Steve) Beyer, Shiocton; a son, John (Diane) Carpenter. Betty's sister and brother-in-law, Verona (Roger) Rueden, Shiocton. Six grandchildren: Kim (Rick) Jennerjohn; Tammy (Billy) Collar; Clint (Tina) Morack; Amy (Jason) Blohowiak; Tanya (Jeremy) Hermann; and John C. (Tonya) Carpenter and sixteen great grandchildren.
    They are preceded in death by their parents and Betty's brother and sister-in-law, James and Eunice King.
    Funeral services for John and Betty will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 12 p.m. Noon St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton with Rev. Micheal Isbell officiating. Private burial will be held with full Military Graveside Rites for John. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.

    Verona M. Rueden, age 84 of Shiocton, died with family by her side at St. Joseph Residence on May 13, 2016.
    Verona was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on March, 3, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Irene (Lettman) King. Her family moved to Shiocton Verona's freshman year of high school, where she then graduated. On January 3, 1953, Verona married Roger Rueden in Shiocton, Wisconsin. Throughout the years Verona worked at the family restaurant Eat Shop, Zwickers, and drove bus for Shiocton School District, but most importantly, she was a full time mother and farm wife. Verona was a life long member of St. Denis Catholic Church and a member of St. Ann's Christian Mother Society.
    She enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, playing with her card club and raising cauliflower.
    Verona is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Ronald (Paula) Rueden, Diane Knops, Becky (John) Sager, and Kathleen (Carl) Lucht; grandchildren, Eric (Jamie) Sager, Heather Knops (Tony Rangel), Sara (Corey) Bergsbaken, Jessica Sager, Jason (Lauren) Knops, and Landon Lucht; and great-grandchildren, Dakota, Hailey, Colton, Alexis, Aiden, Brandon, Shanna, Connor, Kyle, Owen, Olivia, Antonio and Anna. She is further survived by five step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Verona is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Rueden; son in-law, Ronald Knops; brother, James (Eunice) King; and sister, Betty (John) Carpenter.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton, with Fr. Richard Allen and Deacon Ken Bilgrien officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit directly at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
    The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at both St. Joseph Residence and ThedaCare Hospice for the tender care shown to Verona and the family. Also, they would like to thank Fr. Norman Kruzik and Deacon Ken Bilgrien for the kind and compassionate spiritual care given to Verona.

    William E. Suprise, age 74 of Appleton entered his heavenly home September 8th 2012. He was born October 11, 1937 to the late George and Bernice (Lettman) Suprise in Shiocton. Bill attended Shiocton High School, and on August 11, 1962, married Nina Nelson.
    He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Nina; three sons, Lowell (Gina), PA, Darnell (Sally), Black Creek, and Darin (Tammy), Hortonville; four grandchildren, Logan, Stanley, Alex & Jordan; four step grandchildren, Desiree, Ben, Rachel & Katherine and three great grandchildren, Isabella, Tyler and Charlize; siblings, Shirley(John) Beyers, Carlton, Linda (Ray) Widder, Kathy (Ben) Young, and Kevin, all of Shiocton. He is further survived by, brother in law, Gordon Nelson, MO, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends, especially, loyal friend Keeshi, special friends Carl & Carol Hermans and Noel & Joan Yohr .
    He was preceded in death by a brother Danny, his parents, and sister in law Sherry Suprise.
    A memorial service for William will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton with the Rev. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Friends and family may call at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Bovina Cemetery (Shiocton).
    In lieu of flowers, Bill would prefer dontations be made to the National Kidney Foundation , or "whatever".

    Daniel Joseph Suprise, age 66, Clarksville Tenn., passed away suddenly on Thursday, Mar. 3, 2005. He was born December 17, 1938, in Bear Creek Wis., son of the late George and Bernice Suprise.
    Survivors include a son, Ricky Suprise, Mo; three daughters, Joline Morgan, Lynn Stallion and Carol Light, all of Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

    Carlton "Bud" Suprise, age 71, Shiocton died on Friday, October 04, 2013, due to a courageous battle with cancer. Bud was born on August 1, 1942, in Town of Deer Creek, (Outagamie County), son of the late George and Bernice (Lettman) Suprise. On October 26, 1963, he was united to Sharon Jean Ritchie. She preceded him in death in 2010. They lived in Shiocton and raised five children there. Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed home football games and Friday fish fry's.
    He is survived by his children: Robert; Jim; Lisa (Mark) Fravert; Brian (Dana); and John (Stacy); his siblings, Shirley (John) Beyers; Kathy (Ben) Young; Linda (Ray) Widder and Kevin Suprise. Grandchildren: Declan Francart; Shea Suprise; Alisha McQuillan; Zachary Suprise; Kyle Suprise and Connor Suprise; sister in-law, Nina Suprise. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    His parents, wife Sharon and brothers William and Daniel preceded him in death.
    Funeral Mass for Bud will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, Shiocton. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
