The family would like to thank Cherry Meadows Hospice for their exceptionally kind and loving care of Ruth, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
There was love in our mother's touch and sunshine in her smile. There was kindness in everything she did to make our lives worth while. Obituary:
The world lost one of its most precious gems on January 23rd, 2014 with the passing of Edward "Ed" Jenkel, 94, Appleton. Ed was a loving, kind and brilliant man, who deeply loved his family and God. Ed was born on January 17, 1920 in the Town of Center. He married his sweet little wife Margaret Burkhardt on June 2, 1951, and together they lovingly nurtured three very grateful children: Diane, Todd and Tim.
Ed was a hydraulics instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and spent his working life at the Appleton Wire Works as an electrician and Valleycast (now Luvata) as a plant engineer. He enjoyed a long retirement filled with grandkids and hobbies and projects. He was the kind of guy who could build or fix anything. Ed loved to help people, and happily tried to care for each of his older siblings as they needed it. His heart was broken when he lost his son Todd at 17, but otherwise he had a blessed life filled with his love and caring.
Ed is survived by his wife Margaret (Peg); daughter Diane (son-in-law Joe, and grandkids Dylan and Lindsay, and Lindsay's husband Zack); son Tim; sister Lucille; and too many nieces and nephews to name, but he loved them all dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Bertha Jenkel; his son Todd; and 10 brothers and sisters, including his little brother Jim who passed away just 4 months ago, who he missed terribly each of his remaining days.
Services for Edward will be held Sat. Jan. 25, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joel Zank officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family from 1pm -2:30pm Saturday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Ed's wife Margaret, any donations will go to Alzheimer's disease research.
Ed's family would like to thank all the people at Appleton Retirement Community, Heartland Hospice, and recently, Prairie Home Assisted Living. We were blown away by the boundless love and care provided by so many amazing caregivers.
"Pop, I miss you so much already. I loved the lifetime of projects and playing we did together all my life. I hate to let it go, but it's time for you to go have fun with Todd now. I love you." - Tim

    Obituary:
Robert John Jenkel was born July 31, 1969 in Appleton, WI. Robert, aka Buckwheat, Buck, Rob and Robbie went to his eternal home on Saturday, July 31 at his residence.
Friends that knew Rob, knew of the "upward battle" with medical problems he had most of his life. He was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes when he was 8 years old. Throughout the many surgeries, he had a positive outlook on life. And as Rob would say, "I'm not a 'Why me' kind of guy. I think it takes more time and effort to give up on things than it actually takes to see them through."
One of Rob's passions was biking. It started with BMX racing when he was younger. When he was confined to a wheelchair, it didn't stop there. Rob started wheelchair racing, and it became full marathons. He was determined to do the Fox Cities Marathon after his kidney and pancreas transplant. Eight weeks after his transplant, he was there and he finished! He continued to do wheelchair marathons for many years after.
Other than racing, Rob's real passion was Architectural Design. The Lord truly blessed Rob with a creative mind. It started with Lego blocks at age 5 to designing a home in his twenties. He was very gifted and was in the process of designing again after a few years off due to medical issues.
Rob is survived by his father: Robert (Jeanne) Jenkel, Winneconne; brothers: Benjamin (Sherry) Jenkel, Sun Prairie and John (Hannah) Jenkel, Menasha; sister: Amy 'Hartjes' Zak, Appleton; nephews: Harper and Olin Jenkel and niece: Laynee Zak. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Patricia A. Cottrell; grandparents: Wilbur & Margaret Cottrell and John & Clara Jenkel.
A funeral service for Rob will be held at 11AM, Saturday, August 6, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 8 S 4th St, Winneconne, with Rev. Mark Albrecht officiating. Friends may visit the family directly at the church on Saturday from 9AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
