Kareta B. Kilgas (nee Hahnemann) "Mrs. K" and "Grandma K," age 95, passed away at Appleton Health Care Centeron Sunday, October 23, 2011. She was born in Kaukauna on November 9, 1915, the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Terry) Hahnemann. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She played drums in the band and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1933 and then went on to Outagamie Teachers College in Kaukauna. Because of her love for music, when Kareta was a teenager, she sang and played instruments with her sisters, Artis and Bina in a trio. They sang on the radio and at various functions locally.
Kareta will be remembered for her love of children and helping them to learn. She became a teacher of Special Education Students in her home. Then she continued working with the children and provided their transportation to Plamann Center. Along with her love of the Lord and teaching children, she also taught Sunday school classes at the New Hope Assembly of God (formerly the Kaukauna Assembly of God) for twenty-five years. Kareta was a very caring Nursing Assistant at Appleton Medical Center (formerly Appleton Memorial Hospital) for 25 years until her retirement. Many people who were her patients in the hospital told of her care that they enjoyed. She was a woman of great faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ and she had a ministry of handing out tracts to help others to know that same Jesus. Wherever she went in her everyday life - whether shopping, out to eat, or in the hospital or nursing home, she was true to her "calling" and made sure she had enough tracts to share with others.
Kareta is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter, DeeAnna Baer, Kaukauna, and her son, Ronald (Sherrill) Kilgas, Appleton. She is also survived by her sister, Bina Wallace, Menasha; six grandchildren: Karl (Tammy) Baer, Dairyland, WI; Kathy (Don) Foster, Spooner, WI; Wendy (Paul) Weber, Stratford, WI; Max II (Isabelle), Germany; Todd Kilgas, Appleton; and Lisa (Michael) Ware Appleton; Fifteen great-grandchildren: Cassandra, Joshua, Elizabeth, Christy, Andy, Nathan, Jesika, Allyssa, Rebeka, Tralese, Sauvell, Melissa, Phillip, Curtis, Sylvia; and one great-great grandson, Maveric.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; sisters: Artis and Dorothy; brothers: Donald, Everett, and Kenneth.
Funeral Services for Kareta will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at NEW HOPE ASSEMBLY of GOD, 1100 Hyland Ave., Kaukauna with Rev. Matthew Gilkerson officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. and again on Friday directly at church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
