    Appleton - Lois Burch, age 91 of Appleton, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Appleton on Sunday evening, April 29, 2018. Lois was born in Appleton on February 21, 1927, daughter of the late Julius and Florence (Blahnik) Balza. On June 8, 1946, she married Lawrence Burch in Springfield, Missouri, and together spent fifty-eight beautiful years together, surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
    Lois was a devoted Catholic who also served as a Girl Scout leader at St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed many hobbies, including golf, playing bridge, knitting, and socializing with friends and neighbors. Prior to their return to Appleton, Lois lived in Nashville, Tennessee and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She loved sports of all kinds, but special to her were her five grand-dogs, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
    Lois is survived by six children: Chris (Kari) Burch of West Bend, Steve (Jill) Burch of Colorado, Robert (Robin) Burch of Eau Claire, Lynn (Jess Coburn) Burch of Germany, Jane Burch of Appleton, and Barbie Burch of Oklahoma. There are also seven grandchildren: Scott (Jen) Burch, Andrea Burch, Greg (Laura) Burch, Shelly (John) Weiland, Jeff Burch, Ryan (Katie Robinson) Burch, and Bridgett (Nate) Dailey. Lois also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren, and three sisters: Mary LeFevre of Appleton, Joan Schmitt of New London, and Helen (Chris) Schaefer of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence in 2004, brothers Bob (Marge) Balza, Tom Balza, and Bill Balza; a sister Edith (Al) Schreiner, and brothers-in-law Tom Schmitt and Ron LeFevre.
    The funeral liturgy for Lois will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 4, 2018 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street in Appleton, with Fr. Bill Swichtenberg officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to the St. Joseph Food Program.
    The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the staff at Brookdale for creating such a warm environment for Lois, and to the staff for their love and care. Special thanks to all of the residents at Brookdale - mom treasured each of you - thank you for treasuring her. Finally, thanks to Compassus Hospice Staff for all of the extra comfort you provided to Lois and to us. We will never forget your kindness.

    Menasha Age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 16, 2001 at Appleton Medical Center. Robert was born on July 23, 1928; the son of the late Julius and Florence Balza. Robert retired from te Banta Corp. in 1990 after 43 years of service. Robert volunteered at St. Joseph Food Pantry and BRAVO. He married Marge Hollenbach on May 7, 1966 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed 35 wonderful years together. Robert enjoyed gardening, he was an avid Packer fan, and loved spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors.
    Robert is survived by his wife, Marge; three sons; Greg (JeanneAnn), California; Keith, Louisianna; and Christopher Balza, Menasha; three grandchildren: Brittani, Dylan and Delaney; two bothers: Bill and Tom Balza; four sisters: Lois (Larry) Burch, Mary Lefevre, Joan (Tom) Schmitt, and Helen (Chris) Schaefer; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Florence; a sister, Edith Schreiner; and two brothers-in-law: Al Schreiner and Ron Lefevre.
    The funeral liturgy will be held on Monday, November 19, 2001 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH 222 East Freemont St. at !!:00 a.m. with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends will be received directly at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of liturgy (11:00 a.m.)
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Food Pantry."

    William (Bill) Balza, age 85, of Appleton, passed away on May 19, 2017. Bille was born on July 20, 1931 in Appleton, to the late Julius and Florence (Blahnik) Balza. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1949, followed by service in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea. Bill was later employed at Kimberly-Clark, Menasha Paper, and James River Corporation.
    Bill is survived by his siblings: Lois Burch of Appleton, Mary LeFevre of Appleton, Helen (Chris) Schaefer of St. Charles, Illinois, and Joan Schmitt of New London. Bill was also a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Edith (Alan) Schreiner, his brother Robert (Marge) Balza, Tom Balza, and brothers-in-law Lawrence Burch, Ron LeFevre, and Tom Schmitt.
    Bill was an avid baseball fan. He attended Major League baseball games at parks across the country, and participated in the MLB's annual baseball conferences. He dedicated countless hours of time volunteering at and watching both the Appleton Foxes and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. His efforts were so greatly appreciated that he was awarded a Director's ring by the Timber Rattlers' organization. Bill was also a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton, and he generously supported the musical ministry of its handbell choir.
    Whether it was his nieces and nephews, or his friends that joined him for breakfast every morning at McDonald's on Northland Avenue, Bill took great pride in giving to those around him.
    The funeral liturgy for Bill will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street in Appleton. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday at church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Military honors will follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com. The family would like to express its gratitude to the many caregivers that provided Bill comfort and kindness.

    Thomas Balza, age 77, of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13, 2015 after complications from an automobile accident. He was born on September 20, 1937 in Appleton, to the late Julius and Florence (Blahnik) Balza. He graduated from Appleton West High School in 1955, followed by four years of service in the Marine Corps in California. Tom was later employed at Gilbert Paper in Menasha. He then worked as a rural mail carrier in Greenville and Appleton for over 35 years, retiring in December of 2003. He had many fond memories of his special patrons and co-workers at the post office.
    Tom is survived by his siblings: Lois Burch of Appleton, Bill Balza of Appleton, Mary LeFevre of Appleton, Helen (Chris) Schaefer of St. Charles, Illinois, and Joan Schmitt of New London. Tom was also a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Edith (Alan) Schreiner, his brother Robert (Marge) Balza and brothers-in-law Lawrence Burch, Ron LeFevre, and Tom Schmitt.
    Tom was known for his quick wit and unending jokes - a talent he attributed to learning during his time as a bartender at the former Badger Bar on College Avenue in Appleton. No matter the topic, Tom would find a way to weave laughter into the conversation.
    The funeral liturgy for Thomas will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street in Appleton. Fr. Thomas J. Farrell will be officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday at church from 9:30 am until the time of mass. Military honors will follow mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Pius Catholic Church are appreciated. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
