    Obituary:
Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of John M. Carr, a pioneer of Grant County who passed away to his reward at 7:30 o'clock last Wednesday evening at his home on Grant Street, after a lingering illness of a little over a year.
Deceased was born at Rubicon, Wisconsin, January 22nd, 1861, and had reached the age of 75 years and 20 days. He grew to manhood in Wisconsin and in the spring of 1882 came to Milbank and filed on a homestead in Melrose township. Three years later, February 12, 1885, he was united in marriage with Julia M. Pew at Stephensville, Wisconsin. They came at once to this county and established their home on their farm, remaining there until the fall of 1923, when they came to this city to live.
While a resident of Melrose Mr. Carr was not only regarded as one of the thrifty and progressive farmers of the county, but also found time to take a prominent part in school and county affairs, holding various school and township offices the greater part of the time. He was Melrose township assessor many years.
In December, 1934, deceased became ill with heart trouble and from then on had been confined to his home most of the time, while for about four months previous to his demise he had been confined to bed. Two weeks previous to the end he developed bronchitis and pneumonia which hastened his passing, which came upon the 51st anniversary of his marriage. A man of fine character, generous impulses and social inclinations he was very highly esteemed as a citizen, a friend and a neighbor.
The immediate relatives surviving are his wife, two sons and three daughters. The children are Frank B. and Floyd J. Carr, Melrose township; Mrs. F. W. (Elinor) Kuesel, Glenwood, Minnesota; Mrs. H. A. (Mattie) Ebert, Ortonville, Minnesota; and Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Robel, of this city. Elmer, the oldest son, preceded his father in death in 1911. Nine grandchildren also survive. Mr. Carr was the last of his family. A brother, Edward, died in 1908, and a half-sister, Mrs. Thomas Powers, nee Anna Kerns, in 1919.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 o'clock Saturday forenoon at St. Lawrence church, with Rt. Revd. Msgr. Grabig officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in St. Lawrence cemetery.
Old friends and business associates of the deceased, E. H. Benedict, W. W. Wilson, Spencer Seldon, John Liggett, George H. Jurgens and Ed A. Johnson acted as honorary pallbearers, while the active pallbearers were H. A. Martens, William Garvey, William Martens, C. B. Bailey, W. S. Dolan and Martin Morley.
