He was born in Freedom, on Feb. 25, 1922, son of late Fred and Elizabeth (Verhoven) Hoks, the youngest of thirteen children. Richard was united in marriage to Laverne VanDynHoven, on November 21, 1946, in Little Chute. She preceded him in death on September 1, 1995, after 48 years of marriage. Dick attended N.Y.A. trade school and went to work for Manitowoc ship yards. After proudly serving in the US Army Air Corp, and being honorably discharged in 1945, he worked for Kimberly Clark at different locations, for 38 years as a millwright. While at Munising, MI he was a scout master and coached little league ball. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona each winter and the return home to Neenah in the spring, where he could walk to church every day. He loved spending time at his school house in Zittau. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, building and repairing anything, but most of all he enjoyed being around his family. He is survived by daughter: Connie (Dan) Kraft; three sons: Mike (Leah), Gene (Bonnie), and Ric (Barbara); and Dick's loving companion, Pat Wacker. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Sara, Bel, Pat, Kalla, Bobbie, and Tony Hoks; two great grandchildren: Kenyon and Lilly; a sister: Eleanor "Honey" Wheaton; and many other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by six sisters: Minnie, Rose, Loretta, Marie, Anna, Dorothy; and five brothers: Dan, Anthony, William, Bill and Lester. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Fr. Larry Seidl officiating and Fr. Richard Allen co-officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. The family will greet friends on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Following the Mass, full military honors will be presented by members of the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Richard's name.
