    Nicholas Kieffer born 13 APR 1887 in Freedom or Town of Kaukauna, Outagamie County, WI, son of Nicholas Kieffer and Mary Green. The family is living in the Town of Kaukauna in 1900. Father Nicholas Kiefer born Oct/1837 in Luxembourg (Prussia). Married Mary Green 1864 in Port Washington, Ozaukee County, WI.

    Nicholas Kiefer Sr. was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a Pvt. in the 26th Infantry, Co. "E". He mustered in at Spring Grove, WI on 07 SEP 1861 and mustered out 19 NOV 1864 when his term expired.

    In 1910 Nicholas Sr, Mary Kiefer wife, Rose Kiefer (dtr of Nicholas and Mary), and Peter (son of Nicholas and Mary) are living with son Nicholas, Jr., in Freedom Township, Outagamie County, WI on Town Line Rd. Nicholas, Jr. is not yet married.

    In 1920 Nicholas Jr. is married to Ann, with sons Sylvester, age 8 and Rosella, dtr., age 2-2/12. (Sylvester Kieffer born 29 SEP 1911 and died Feb 1968.

    Thus, Nicholas and Mary died after 1910 and I believe prior to 1918. More than likely buried at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Freedom, Wi.

    Believe that the daughter of Nicholas and Anna, born JAN 1875 became a nun, "Sister Mary Isabelle," Franciscan Order. She is in the 1910 Census at St. Elizabeth Hospital, age listed as 36, born in WI, parents born in Germany.

    Nicholas Sr. and Anna Green had 14 children; three died, namely Clara, Margaretha and Leo.

    Son Walter Kiefer/Kieffer born 1870 in Freedom, Outagamie County, WI married Minnie Weyenberg 29 SEP 1896 in Outagamie County, WI; children born to Walter and Minnie were Mary M., born 10 AUG 1897 in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co., WI; Joseph, Bernadette, Clarence, Martin and Lawrence.

    Son William born 14 FEB 1873 in Freedom, Outagamie Co., WI married Ida Unknown. Living on Green Bay Rd., Freedom, WI in 1910, with children Verna W., born 01 NOV 1903, Leo, born 12 FEB 1906 in Freedom, Mabel, Raymond, John, Helen, Nicholas, Ida, and Frances (daughter).

    The surname "Kiefer" changes to "Kieffer" with the sons.

    Rosella Burgoyne Van Hoof, passed away on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. She was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Freedom, to the late Nicholas and Ann (Huss) Kieffer. She married Louie Burgoyne in June of 1939. Together they operated Burgoyne's farm in De Pere. Louie preceded her in death in November of 1969. In April of 1972, she married Wally Van Hoof. Wally died in March of 2006.
    She is survived by her son, Dan (Judy) Burgoyne, two daughters, Dolores (Ken) Van De Hei and Linda Schmidt, all of De Pere; two sisters, Evelyn Thiele, Florida; and Ellie (John) Vincent, Appleton; her sister-in-law, Marian Jensen; three stepsons, Bob (Irene) Van Hoof, Jim (Janet) Van Hoof, Gary (Sue) Van Hoof; two stepdaughters, Jane Witter and Shirley (Orville) Evers. Nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren further survive Rosella.
    She was further preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Sylvester (Marge) Kieffer.
    Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive, De Pere, after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tim Shillcox O. Praem., officiating.

    Obituary:
    Floyd B. "Curly" Kieffer, age 75, of Seymour passed away on Friday morning, November 13, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. He was born May 20, 1940 a son of the late Sylvester and Margie (Durkee) Kieffer.
    On June 3, 1993 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betts" Herlache. Betts preceded him in death on May 26, 2007. The couple spent 30 years showing Mastiffs across the U.S.
    He is survived by two daughers: Kelly Ann (Dirk) Yarnell and their children and grandchildren, and Brigid Kieffer; son, Michael Kieffer; two step-daughters: AnneMarie (Mitch) Roepcke and children, and Melissa Appleton; special friends and neighbors Rick and Chris Stedl.
    In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Kieffer.
