Janssen, Richard E., "Dick ", 424 E. Kimberly Avenue, KimberlyAge 58, passed away at his home on Monday, October 6, 2003 following a six -year illness. Dick was born in Kaukauna on July 22, 1945, son of the la te Edward and Viola (Smith) Janssen. In 1963, he graduated from Kaukauna H igh School, and for many years had been a semi driver for the Appleton Pap ers Locks Mill. On June 12, 1968, he married the former Karen Lamers in Co mbined Locks. Dick was a member of the Quarter-Century Club there, and w as always proud of his spotless driving record. Dick loved the outdoors, a nd especially enjoyed fishing. He was a charter member of the Kozy Korn er Sportsmen's Club and the Swamp Sucker Valley Cruisers. He spent his fr ee time at the Lazy L cabin on Lily Lake as well as at Captain's Cove Reso rt near Gresham. Dick was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan - he never mis sed a game. He also enjoyed baseball in his younger years, and played soft ball until he was no longer able. His greatest joy in life came from spend ing time with his family, especially his only grandson Ezra, who was the a pple of his eye.He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years: Karen Janssen of Kimberl y; a daughter: Tricia (Seth) Jacobson of Appleton and their son Ezra; a so n: Travis Janssen of Kimberly; five brothers and sisters: Joanne (Gary) Ga nzyk of Menasha; Shirley Janssen of Kaukauna; Linda (Jim "Freddy") Fredric kson of Kenosha; Gary Janssen of Kaukauna; Carl (Kathy) Janssen of Kaukaun a; a brother-in-law: Marvin "Butch" Dietzen of Kimberly; a sister-in-la w: Phyllis Janssen of Kimberly. Dick is also survived by Karen's mother: T heresa Lamers of Combined Locks; by Karen's sisters: Linda Hatton (Don) Re itzner of Combined Locks and Sally (Jim) Herbst of Oshkosh; as well as ma ny nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preced ed in death by his parents, a sister Marcia Dietzen, and infant sister Mar y, a brother Jim Janssen, a brother-in-law John Hatton, and his father-in- law Harry Lamers.The memorial funeral liturgy for Dick will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursda y, October 11, 2003 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Aven ue in Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Friends may call di rectly at the church on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the hour of the servic e. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dick's name .The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many people who car ed for Dick and whose concern is so much appreciated.
