    Vande Hey, O. Praem., Father Robert Clarence
    Father Robert Clarence Vande Hey, O. Praem., 84, a member of the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey, De Pere, Wis., and a Norbertine priest, passed into God's eternal kingdom on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
    Father Vande Hey was born on July 19, 1924, in Hollandtown, Wis., to Peter and O'Delia (Meulemans) Vande Hey. His home parish was St. Francis Seraph Parish, Hollandtown, Wis.
    In 1942, Father graduated from the Salvatorian Seminary, St. Nazianz, Wis. He received a B.A. degree in philosophy from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wis., in 1946 and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind., in 1961.
    Upon entering St. Norbert Abbey, he was vested as a novice on Aug. 28, 1943. He professed Simple Vows on Aug. 28, 1945, Solemn Vows on Aug. 28, 1948 and was ordained to the Priesthood on June 11, 1949.
    For the first years after his ordination, Father Vande Hey taught at Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia before his assignment to the biology faculty at St. Norbert College in 1955. (He retired as professor emeritus in 1989). Over time, he attended graduate and post graduate classes in biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Notre Dame, and Mount St. Mary College, Los Angeles, the latter with a Research Fellowship awarded by the Atomic Energy Commission.
    His doctoral dissertation drew international recognition, accolades, and honors. Father Vande Hey received a post-doctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Health's U.S. Public Health Service to study at the University of Mainz, Germany, where he continued mosquito research under the director of the Institute of Genetics, the world authority on mosquito genetics. Father Vande Hey's research and its results were published in various professional journals.
    Other ministries included formation with students at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; chaplaincies at St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth, Minnesota, and Benedictine monasteries of nuns in Duluth and in Idaho; and associate pastorates in Madison and Wyoming.
    Father Vande Hey is survived by the Norbertine Community; three brothers, Earl, Eugene (Virginia), and Arthur (Teresa); three sisters, Gladys Tennessen, Sr. Eugenia, OSF, and Grace (Marvin) Zwick.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    The Reception of the Body with Vespers of the Dead Service will be held at St. Norbert Abbey on Friday, June 12, 2009, at 7 p.m. Visitation will follow until 8:30 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, June 13, following the 8 a.m. Morning Prayer, until 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Abbey Church on Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. Rt. Rev. Gary J. Neville, O. Praem., Abbot of St. Norbert Abbey, will preside at the funeral liturgy. Burial will be in the St. Norbert Cemetery.

    Earl Joseph Vande Hey, age 90 passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday April 7, 2017 at Rennes Health & Rehab in Appleton. He was born on September 27, 1926 in the Town of Holland to his parents, Peter & Odelia (Meulemans) Vande Hey. On September 2, 1948 he married Mary Ann Williamson at St. Therese Church in Appleton. He was a very devoted husband & father always instilling in his children the importance of God & family He also passed on the trait of working hard as he showed working full time at White Clover Dairy in Hollandtown as a field man - where he worked for 45 years- and keeping up a farm in Hilbert to provide for his wife & six children. In his retirement he was always happy to help out when they needed him as Grandpa Patrol at Holy Spirit Church in Darboy and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. When he wasn't busy helping others, he was crafting wooden keepsakes for his children & grandchildren. He enjoyed a round of golf and riding with the Maders horse and wagon playing sheepshead. Dad enjoyed an evening cocktail with his Planter's Peanuts and never turned down a cookie!

    Manitowoc - Sister Eugenia Vande Hey, age 88, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Thursday evening, January 25, 2018 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
    The former Rose Ann Vande Hey was born on June 5, 1929 in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Peter and Odelia (Meulemans) Vande Hey. She entered the Convent in 1945 and professed her vows in 1947. Sister Eugenia earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Sister Eugenia served as an elementary teacher at St. Therese and St. Pius X, Appleton; St. Ann, Francis Creek; St. Mary, Algoma; St. Joseph and Holy Innocents, Manitowoc; St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. Agnes, Green Bay; and performed various services at St. Mary, Kaukauna; St. Thomas More, Appleton; Holy Redeemer, Two Rivers; and St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. She also served as an Occupational Therapist at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna; Holy Family Hospital and St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since 2014 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
    Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Eugene, Arthur (Theresa) and Mary Ann Vande Hey; and two sisters: Gladys Tennessen and Grace Zwick; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Odelia (Meulemans), two brothers: Rev. Robert Vande Hey, O'Praem and Earl; one sister-in-law: Virginia Vande Hey; and two brothers-in-law: Leroy Tennessen and Marvin Zwick.
    Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Hilary Brzezinski, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
    The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
