Biography:
WILLIAM FARRELL, deceased, was a well known business man at Appleton, Wisc onsin, for a number of years. He was born in Ireland, in 1845, and ca me to America with his mother, in 1854. When he was only fourteen years of age the mother died and he was le ft to make his way alone, practically unaided and with but meager advantag es of any kind. A large part of his life was devoted to lumbering, main ly in the Wisconsin lumber regions. H.e accumulated capital and in 1888 mo ved with his family to Appleton, where he embarked in a livery business. I le continued in this enterprise until his accidental death, from the ki ck of one of his own horses, which occurred December 11, 1893. During t he time that he lived at Phillips, Wisconsin, he was quite active in polit ics, being an intelligent man and good citizen. He was a member of St. Mar y's Roman Catholic Church at the time of his death. In 1872 he married Mi ss Ellen Moran, who was born in Canada, a daughter of Patrick and Mary Mor an, who came very early to Outagamie county. Eight children were born to t his marriage, as follows: Mary, who is now deceased; Birdie, who resid es at home, is a teacher of music, a graduate of Lawrence University and t he Chicago Conservatory of Music and for several years organist of St. Mar y's Catholic Church; John, James and Leo, all of whom are deceased; Margar et, who is a graduate of the Appleton High School and the Milwaukee Norm al School, is a public school teacher; Katherine, who is a graduate of t he High School and of Bushey Business College, is a competent stenographe r; and Regina, who is yet in school. Mrs. Farrell and family attend St. Ma ry's Catholic Church.
