    Obituary:
The funeral of Mrs. Demis Vincent, who died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Carncross at Appleton, on Friday morning, Nov. 23, was held on Sunday. The remains were brought to this city, where the services were conducted at the Trinity Presbyterian church by Rev. L. M. Harwood. There was a large attendance of old friends of the deceased form this city, Charlestown and New Holstein at the services in the church and also at the burial in the family lot in the cemetery at Hayton.
Demis Watrous, daughter of the late Orrin J. and Jane E. Watrous, was born at Binghampton, Broome County, New York on June 25, 1843. She came with her parents to Calumet County in 1849, locating at Hayton in the town of Charlestown, then a dense wilderness. With her father's family she experienced all the thrills and hardships of the early pioneer. Her parents were educated people and their humble cottage was not only a home, but also a school wherein their children were giving the foundation of their education, which in after years added to their prominence.
The deceased was one of the pioneer teachers of Chilton and continued in that profession for many years. She was married on March 11, 1874 to the late Samuel Vincent of Charlestown, prominent in Calumet County affairs having served the county as sheriff and also as clerk of the court for years. They established their home in Hayton where she continued to live until after her husband's death which occurred on Nov. 14, 1917, when she went to Appleton to make her home with her daughter. She had been ill since June, and was the last of the Orrin Watrous family.
Mrs. Vincent was an ideal wife and mother. Her home was one of refinement and reflected her beautiful character and charming personality to all who entered it. Her life was centered in home and family but not to the exclusion of neighbors and friends who knew her well and loved her. She is survived by a son, Dr. Henry A. Vincent of Wellington, Kansas, and two daughters, Mrs. R. E. Carncross of Appleton and Mrs. Herschel B. Smith of Hamburg, Ia. She also leaves three granddaughters, Ruth and Janet Carncross of Appleton and Mrs. Fred Blackman of Wellington, Kan
