Obituary:
Curtis J. Curt Verstegen, age 69, passed away Sat. March 27th, 2010, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 14, 1940, in Superior, WI, to Clarence and Loretta (Van Dyke) Verstegen. Curt attended numerous schools in Wisconsin, including the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. He worked as a millwright and machine erector in the construction industry for 35 years. He was a member of the Millwrights Local #204 in Renton, WA. Curt was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate, 2nd Class.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Verstegen, step-father Florian Hoelzel and step-brother Ron Hoelzel.
He is survived by his mother Loretta Van Dyke Verstegen Hoelzel, daughters: Karen (Tracy) Smith and Sheila (Douglas) Smith, son Gregory (Wendy) Verstegen, brother Nicholas Verstegen, sisters Myrna Wydeven, Adele (Gary) Romenesko, Eunice Verstegen (Rob Salkowitz), Clare Verstegen, step-brother Roy (Jan) Hoelzel, step-sister Carol (Ray) Kaufman, six grandchildren, Nathan, Seth and Casey Smith, Traci Jo Smith, and Lucas and Kaitlyn Verstegen, close friend Kathryn Tomas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was be held at Church of the Assumption in Bellingham on Wed. March 31. Burial with military honors was held at Ocean View Cemetery in Port Angeles, WA. You may view photos of Curt and share memories with the family at www.westfordfuneralhome.com.
