    Obituary:
Mehlberg, Fay A. "Swede", Fay "Swede" Mehlberg, age 71, longtime Appleton resident, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, on Friday, January 29, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Fay, son of the late Arthur and Alice (Steinberg) Mehlberg, was born May 5, 1938, in Clintonville. He grew up in Caroline, graduating from Marion High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Nola C. Buss, the love of his life, on June 18, 1966. Fay and Nola chose to raise their family in Appleton, moving there in 1968. Fay worked at Fox Tractor, Appleton, for 29 years before working at Walker Forge, Clintonville, until retirement in 2000. After retirement, he mowed lawn part-time at Bridgewood Golf Course, Neenah.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nola, and their family: Lyn; Tammy and her husband Michael and their daughters Brianna and Marissa; and son James and his wife Catherine and daughters Ashley and Melissa. He is also survived by sister Barbara Maas, in-laws and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Fay was an avid fan of baseball, playing from the 1950s to 1970s, pitching for Marion High School, Little Chute/Kimberly and Caroline Cougars. Later, he thoroughly enjoyed coaching and watching son Jim play. One of Fay's proudest moments was his 2007 induction into the Caroline Cougars Baseball of Hall of Fame.
He most enjoyed spending time with family, as family was extremely important to him. He relished in the role of grandfather.
Dad, thank you for teaching us the importance of family and sharing your pearls of wisdom, which we lovingly refer to as "Swedisms."
The family would like to acknowledge the warm wishes, prayers and concern from family members, friends and co-workers that helped each of us get through this trying time.
The family would like to thank the staff of Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Aurora Baycare Medical Center and Parkside Care Center, as well as Drs. Travis Kroner and Dhimant Patel for their compassionate care.
Funeral service for $wede will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
