    Alice G. Mehlberg, 91, Appleton, formerly of Caroline, passed away with family by her side on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. Alice, the daughter of the late David and Anna (Marquardt) Steinberg, was born in the Township of Seneca, Shawano County, on Oct. 15, 1917. On Sept. 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arthur Mehlberg at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. The couple enjoyed 53 years together until his death in 1989.
    Art and Alice were longtime residents of Caroline, maintaining a home there until 1991. In the 1960s, they set up a second home in Appleton, returning to Caroline upon Art's retirement in 1977. After Art's death, Alice returned to Appleton to be closer to her family. She was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She especially enjoyed listening to Brewers' games, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
    Survivors include her son, Fay Mehlberg, and his wife, Nola, Appleton, and their family, Lyn; Tammy and her husband, Michael, and their daughters, Brianna and Marissa; and James and his wife, Catherine, and her children, Ashley and Melissa. Alice is further survived by her daughter, Barbara Maas, and her husband, Tom, Neenah, and their family, Sherry and her children, Haylie; Ryan; Jessica and her husband, Tyler, and their son, Brayden; Amy; Sarah and her husband, Shawn, and their daughters, Amber and Allison; and April and her children, Rilee and Tyler. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
    he was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Louise (James) Powell and Florence (Bill) Stueck; her brother, Gilbert (Clara) Steinberg; as well as other family members.
    The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline, with the Rev. Craig Nehring officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery, Caroline. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

    Mehlberg, Fay A. "Swede", Fay "Swede" Mehlberg, age 71, longtime Appleton resident, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, on Friday, January 29, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Fay, son of the late Arthur and Alice (Steinberg) Mehlberg, was born May 5, 1938, in Clintonville. He grew up in Caroline, graduating from Marion High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Nola C. Buss, the love of his life, on June 18, 1966. Fay and Nola chose to raise their family in Appleton, moving there in 1968. Fay worked at Fox Tractor, Appleton, for 29 years before working at Walker Forge, Clintonville, until retirement in 2000. After retirement, he mowed lawn part-time at Bridgewood Golf Course, Neenah.
    He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nola, and their family: Lyn; Tammy and her husband Michael and their daughters Brianna and Marissa; and son James and his wife Catherine and daughters Ashley and Melissa. He is also survived by sister Barbara Maas, in-laws and several cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
    Fay was an avid fan of baseball, playing from the 1950s to 1970s, pitching for Marion High School, Little Chute/Kimberly and Caroline Cougars. Later, he thoroughly enjoyed coaching and watching son Jim play. One of Fay's proudest moments was his 2007 induction into the Caroline Cougars Baseball of Hall of Fame.
    He most enjoyed spending time with family, as family was extremely important to him. He relished in the role of grandfather.
    Dad, thank you for teaching us the importance of family and sharing your pearls of wisdom, which we lovingly refer to as "Swedisms."
    The family would like to acknowledge the warm wishes, prayers and concern from family members, friends and co-workers that helped each of us get through this trying time.
    The family would like to thank the staff of Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Aurora Baycare Medical Center and Parkside Care Center, as well as Drs. Travis Kroner and Dhimant Patel for their compassionate care.
    Funeral service for $wede will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Knitt officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
