    Ralph Robert "Bob" Blessman. October 2, 2012. Age 88. Born July 13, 1924 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Husband of the late Darjean for 53 years. Father of Edward (Barbara Hayhurst) and Ray (Pam Shewchuck) Blessman. Brother of Betty Denny, Viola King and the late Eugene. Grandfather of Claire, Alaine, Ann and Eric Blessman. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation Friday 5 to 8 pm. at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St. (N. of 14 Mile) Clawson. Memorial service Saturday 10 a.m. at Clawson United Methodist Church. Principal of Longfellow Elementary School in Hazel Park for 30 years.     Ralph Robert (Bob) Blessman, age 88 of Troy, passed away on October 2, 2012. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on July 13, 1924, the son of Ralph Robert and Molly (Noack) Blessman. As a young man, Bob was an active Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Sea Scout and an eyewitness to Pearl Harbor. He spent the early years of his life in the Hawaiian Islands, as his father was stationed there.
    He graduated from North Central College (Naperville, Illinois) and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Butler University (Indianapolis, Indiana). He met his future wife, Darjean Blessman, while taking summer classes at Purdue University. They were married on August 31, 1952. He taught school in Indianapolis, IN and Hazel Park, MI. He was a principal at Longfellow Elementary School in Hazel Park for 30 years. Bob served actively in the Navy from 1942 to 1946, and was active in the Naval Reserve for 30 years. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
    In addition to being a member of Clawson United Methodist Church for over 50 years, he was active in the Hazel Park Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America, Metro Detroit Carvers, Michigan Association of Elementary School Principals, Southeast Michigan Parkinson's Association.
    Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Darjean, who passed away in 2006, and his brother, Eugene. He is survived by his sons, Edward (Barbara Hayhurst) of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, and Ray (Pam Shewchuck) Blessman of Royal Oak, Michigan; sisters, Betty Denny and Viola King; and four grandchildren, Claire and Alaine Blessman, and Ann and Eric Blessman. In addition, serveral nieces and nephews also survive.
    Funeral Information
    A Memorial Visitation will take place on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main Street, Clawson. Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Clawson United Methodist Church at 10:00 am., with the Family receiving relatives and friends beginning at 9:00 am. A luncheon will immediately follow the Memorial Service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
