    Baerwald, Fredrick Raymond
    Fredrick Raymond Baerwald, 60, Hortonville, died on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center from complications due to surgery. He was born on May 10, 1947, in Sugar Bush, son of the late Raymond and June (Stroesenreuther) Baerwald. His early years were spent in Marshfield, Wis. In 1957, the family moved to Hortonville and built the A & W Root Beer Stand (currently Charlie's). Fred graduated from Hortonville High School in 1965. He graduated from Milwaukee Institute of Technology in 1967, with an Associates Degree in Photography. He worked for Krause Publications for several years as their photographer. He also took many local wedding pictures.
    In 1973, Fred and his former wife, Jan, with his father, Raymond, opened the Super Burger in New London (currently Beacon St. Deli). In 1975, they opened a second Super Burger in Kaukauna (currently Rings Family Restaurant). In 1977, Fred and Jan opened The Chalice in Oshkosh, and in 1984, they opened the Horton Inn in Hortonville. From 1993-1995, Fred and his current wife, Brenda (Wilma), were traveling salesmen for Old Fred's Pickled Asparagus and Sex Olives. In 1997, Fred and Brenda (Wilma) opened Wally's Still in Dale. Fred will be remembered for his love of trap shooting, deer hunting, dice shaking, small children and cell phones.
    He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Wilma); his daughter, Laurie Elliott and her children, Logan and Maggie; his son, Chad (Jeanette) Baerwald and their children, Collin and Morgan; his stepchildren, Michelle Waite, Wendie (Bob) Kronser and their children, Megan and Melissa; Michael Waite and his children, Nicholas, Mason and Madison; his stepmother, Helen Baerwald and her family; his brother, Roy (Linda) Baerwald and their children, Kristine and Debra; aunts, Shirley Stroesenreuther and Fern Baerwald. His mother and father-in-law, Merlin "Bud" (Joyce) Marti; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive him.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and his dogs, Rufus 1 and Rufus 2.
    Relatives and friends are invited to join the family at a gathering to celebrate Fred's life to be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Grandview Golf Course in Hortonville (333 N. Olk St.)
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
