    Former Clay resident Donald R.Weyenberg, 68, of Midland, Mich., died Tuesd ay, Dec.29, 1998, at MedMichigan Medical Center. Services were Jan.2 at Bl essed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland, with Rev.Steve Gavit officiati ng. Burial was in Midland City Cemetery. Ware Smith-Woolever Funeral Ho me of Midland was in charge of the arrangements. Mr.Weyenberg was born Ju ly 11, 1930, to Clyde Henry and Elva (Hlavaty) Weyenberg in Glenvil. On De c.26, 1955, he married Barbara Oppenheim in Coldwater, Ohio. He receiv ed a bacholor's degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska. In 19 51 he joined Dow Corning Corp. After four years he took an educational lea ve and completed his doctorate degree at Pennsylvania State Universi ty in 1958. He returned to Dow Corning Corp. He was a research chemist unt il 1965 when he was named research manager for organometallic and inorga nic chemistry. He completed the Program for Management Development at Harv ard University in 1968. He then served in a number of research and develop ments positions. He was named director of silicone research in 1970. In 1 971 he was named resins and chemicals business manager and in 1974, busine ss manager for bioscience and new ventures. In 1977 he was named direct or of research. In 1979 he was named vice president for research and devel opment and in March 1987 was promoted to senior vice president for resear ch and development. In December 1987 he was elected a member of the D ow Corning board of directors. In January 1991 he became Dow Corning's fir st chief scientist. He retired Dec.31, 1992, after 40 years of servic e. He was named to the honorary position of scientist emeritus. During h is 40 years he wrote more than 40 articles In scientific journals and cont ributions to scientific texts in organosilicon chemistry. He held more th an 37 U.S.patents in silicone materials. He was a past member of the boa rd of editors for the American Chemical Society Journal, Organometallic s. In 1980 he participated in the first China, Japan, U.S.A. Symposi um on Organometallic Chemistry in Beijing, China. At the XVII Organosilic on Symposium in 1983 he was the honored guest and lecturer. Also in 19 3, he was the recipient of the Midland Section A.C.S.Award. In 1988 he w as named an honorary Alumni Fellow at Pennsylvania State Universit y. He was a member of many boards, societies and community service club s. Survivors are his wife; one daughter Ann Louise Johnson of Hartland, Mi ch., one son Tom of Solon, Ohio, one sister, Norma Lee Hampton of Gerin g; one brother, Jim of Glenvil, and seven grandchildren.Memorials may be g iven to the Donald R.Weyenberg Memorial Fund at the Midland Foundation.
