    Obituary:
Charles "Charlie" J. Welter, 84, De Pere, died Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born on May 1, 1932, to George F. and Marcella (Verhasselt) Welter in Hobart, IN. His mother, Marcella preceded him in death when he was 12 years old. His stepmother was his aunt, Ruth. Charlie spent his summers after his mother's death with his Aunt Collette and Uncle Louie Bougie on their farm in Freedom, WI. For this reason, he viewed them as a second mother and father. Charlie moved to Chicago in second grade, and graduated from Fenwick High School in 1950. He settled in Green Bay, WI after he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Charlie married Elaine Lembcke on April 23, 1955, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Isaar, WI.

Charlie ran his own business, C. J. Welter Remodeling for over 25 years. He then was employed by the Green Bay Correctional Institute as head of maintenance until retiring in 1995. Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Green Bay where he was involved with the Athletic Club and The Holy Name Society. Later Charlie retired to Suring and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and sang in the choir. He loved being with his family and going to the cottage in God's country at the "Paddle Inn" on the Oconto River. He enjoyed sailing, white water canoeing, bicycling, camping, cross-country skiing, and was an active member of AARP.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Elaine; six children and their spouses, Vicki (Jim) Reed, Wendy (Chris) Metz, Mark (Julie) Welter, Matthew (Pamela) Welter, Shirley (John) Jauquet, Carl (Nanni) Welter; 11 grandchildren, Laura Rangel, Paul (Erin) Reed, David (Lexie) Reed, Erin Heim, Stephanie Welter, Rachel Welter, Samuel Welter, Johnnie (Bri) Jauquet, Charlie Jauquet, Naomi Welter, Ceanu Welter; great-grandchildren, Carter, Callie, Jack, Madisyn, Grace, Wyatt; sisters-in-law, Patricia Welter, Mary Welter, Shirley Roskom, Dolores Palmer, Mary (Fred) VanKauwenberg; brothers-in-law, Bill Lembcke, Joe (Theresa) Lembcke; and many nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, George "Doc" (Marie) Welter, Beulah (Tom) Judge, Margaret (Marion) Madeck, Delores (Roy) Mortenson, Gloria (Robert) O'Connor, Rosemary Welter (Sister of Mercy), Francis Welter, U.S. Navy killed on Normandy Beach, Normandy, France serving his country in World War II, John (Doris) Welter, twin brothers, Paul Welter and George Welter; Elaine's brothers and sisters and their spouses, Lorraine (Joseph) Landwehr, Carl Lembcke, Donald Roskom, Gloria (Hans) Busch, and Al Palmer.
