Obituary:
Robert Peter Geurts, age 86, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born October 22, 1926 in the township of Oneida a son of the late Jacob and Evelyn (Van Den Berg) Geurts. Bob was a graduate of Freedom High School. He served his country with the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. Robert was united in marriage to LaVerne Murphy. He owned and operated Geurt's service station in Freedom and was a proud charter member of the Freedom Fire Department, Trailblazers snowmobile club and a life time member of the Freedom VFW Post 7692. He enjoyed Freedom sporting events with family and friends. Hunting trips and being the camp cook. Bob and his family enjoyed going to Kate and Joe Simons cottage on Moshawquit Lake. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Adam and Stacy and great-grandchildren on Chute Pond near Mountain. He loved to bike and walk, enjoying God's great outdoors. Robert was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church of Freedom.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert M. Geurts, Freedom; his grandson, Adam (Stacy) Geurts, Kimberly; and four grandchildren, Keegan, Lynnea, Natilee and Nolan, a brother, DuWayne (Jeanne) Geurts, Eau Claire; Bob was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne in November of 1994, a daughter, Patricia Geurts in August of 1997, a sister, Beatrice (Robert) Green and two brothers, Richard and Ronald (Betty) Geurts.
The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 3:00PM Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church Freedom with Rev. Dan Felton officiating. Inurnment will be in St Nicholas Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by Freedom VFW Post 7692. Robert's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday from 11:30 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the church or St. Paul Hospice Service.
Robert's family would like to extend a special thanks to the Staff of St. Paul Hospice especially Dad's three angels, Lauren, Melissa and Karen. Thanks to Kris Binish for all the BS sessions with Dad. The family would also like to thank Terri Van Den Berg for checking in with Bob daily and for all the talks with Dad.
