    Biography:
    Lived in Spokane until he was five and moved back to St. Paul, Minnesota s hortly after his brother George's death.Lived on Dewey Ave. in the Merriam Park area of St. Paul, later Scheffer A ve, and 1876 Eleanor Ave.Attended Longfellow Elementary School in St. Paul. Attended St. Thomas Aca demy where he earned the rank of 2nd leutenant in the U.S. Army. At St. T homas, he was on the Crack Drill Platoon on skates. Attended St. Thomas C ollege in St. Paul for three years until he was called up for active du ty in the Army in October 1941. After Pearl Harbor, he was assign ed to a cadre in the Armored Division and served in the 756 Tank Battalio n, a small group of light tanks that were attached to larger units that ne eded extra armored fighting units.On October 17, 1942, Bob married Ruth Mary Brings at Camp Pickett in Black stone, Virginia. They lived in Victoria, Virginia until December, 1942 wh en the 756 was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey, a staging area for overseas d uty. The 756 took off for Casablanca in January, 1943, and Bob did not ret urn until October 1945. He served in Africa, Italy, France, and Austria. a nd was commander of the tank battalion, earning the rank of Captain.He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star during his servi ce in the Army. Upon his return to civilian life, Bob worked for the Veter an's Administration until July 1952 as a training and placement officer f or disabled veterans. During this time, he and Ruth lived at 1969 Randol ph Ave. in St. Paul and later at 1870 Highland Pkwy. in St. Paul until the ir home was completed at 1874 Rome Ave. in St. Paul.In July 1952, Bob went to work at Brings and Company, a feed and seed busi ness run by the Brings family. In 1970, when Brings and Company was tak en out of business by H.U.D., Bob went to work for Bachman's and retired f rom there in 1985 as manager of their garden store on Lyndale Ave. in Mpl s. For the next ten years, he worked part time for Tessman Seed. Bob di ed in his home at 1874 Rome Ave. of complications of lung cancer in the ea rly morning on July 11, 1997.
