Bede was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He came home in 1946. On June 26, 1947 he married Evelyn Gerlikowski, and they shared 65 years of marriage until her death on January 10, 2013. Bede and Ev were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay. Prayer was very important to them both, they prayed together daily. Bede worked as a wood pattern maker for 38 years, 28 years at Northwest Engineering Co. and 10 years at Thews.

The family cottage at Lake Mary was a place that brought Bede and Ev much happiness, whether it was walking in the woods, or sitting on the porch swing and watching the boats go by. When Ev died, Bede lost intrest, and just wanted to "Go Home" and be with Ev. He said he couldn't live without her.
