    Obituary:
Kenneth L. Oudenhoven, 84 of Frenchtown, MT, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at his home in Sorrel Springs.
Ken was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Kimberly, Wis., to Matilda and Anthony Oudenhoven. He received a degree in education from St. Norbert's College at Du Pere, Wis., and attended Marquette University at Milwaukee, Wis., where he received a master's degree in administration.
Ken taught for 35 years in the Wisconsin Oak Creek School District, teaching earth science and math. Upon retirement, he was a naturalist for the Wehr Nature Center, continuing to teach and volunteer.
As a member of the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), he was a charter member of the Board of Directors. In addition, he helped establish the Wisconsin Education Insurance Trust, serving on the board of directors for 13 years. This afforded many opportunities to travel all over the country as a further means for training and consulting. The trust started with three employees and today employs more than 3,000 people.
While serving on the National Education Association's Resolutions Committee, he met his wife, Carole Swanson Farlin, whisking Carole from Montana to Wisconsin.
Ken officiated swimming, track, football and basketball at both the high school and college levels. He was a member of the Milwaukee Officials Association, National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association and the Wisconsin Scorers and Timers Association.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (Cardinal Stritch Council No. 4614, Milwaukee), holding every major office. Ken continued his active involvement in the Father J. Fred Reidy Council 1021 here in Missoula.
In 2000, Carole and Ken returned to Montana and they built their dream home in Frenchtown. Ken continued to be active in the education field, tutoring math at Frenchtown Junior High School as well as occasional officiating of track. He served as treasurer for the Sorrel Springs Homeowners Association.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Carole (Frenchtown); daughter and son-in-law Michele and Bill Flemming and granddaughters Stephanie and Nicole (Milwaukee); son Kevin Oudenhoven (Madison, Wis.); stepdaughter Wendy Farlin (Valdez, Alaska); stepdaughter and son-in-law Andrea and Michael Schlueter, grandson Brandon and granddaughter Jessica (Potomac); sister Rita Van Sambeek and sisters-in-law Marian and Carol Oudenhoven (Kimberly, Wis.); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ed and Helga Swanson (Phoenix); along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Frenchtown with Father Bart Tolleson officiating. A reception will follow at the church Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Frenchtown Junior High math department.
