Elva D. Dorn, age 107, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Rennes Health Care Center. The funeral liturgy for Elva will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at ST. APPLETON - The St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System received a $2.5 million gift from the estate of the late Elva Dorn, the largest bequest the system has ever received school leaders said Wednesday.
Dorn and her husband, Herb, were lifelong members of St. Joseph Parish. They had no children, but supported Catholic education in the Fox Cities by establishing the Herbert and Elva Dorn Scholarship Fund in 1992. Elva died in 2014 at the age of 107.
In a statement, system President Deacon Ray DuBois said he is grateful Elva thought of them once again.
"We are truly blessed by the generosity of Mrs. Dorn. Her foresight and faith will benefit our current students and future generations," DuBois said.
A total of $2 million of the gift will go to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System Foundation, with the remaining $500,000 designated to fund academics, fine arts, a prayer garden and administrative costs of the remodeling project at Xavier High School.
A portion of the money will support the scholarship fund the Dorns established, the Xavier Catholic Schools Foundation Fund and create two new funds. The Herbert and Elva Dorn K-8 Memorial Scholarship Fund will support scholarships for elementary and middle school students. The Herbert and Elva Dorn K-12 Support Fund will cover long-term needs across the system.

Vandenberg, Wilbert C.Wilbert C. Vandenberg, age 95, of Appleton, died Sunday evening, Decemb er 4, 2005, following a brief illness. He was born February 27, 1910, to t he late Albert and Nellie (Hurkman) Vandenberg, in Little Chute, whe re he graduated from High School. Bill married Lila Radtke, January 24, 19 42, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. He was the assistant abstract or for Outagamie County Register of Deeds before the war. Bill served wi th the U.S. Army during World War II, and saw duty in Australia and New Gu inea. Following the war he was made abstractor for the Register of Deeds u ntil his retirement in 1975. Bill loved to play golf and travel with Lil a. Mary Van Toll, age 97, died at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute on Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was born in Appleton on December 4, 1915, daughter of the late Ernest and Dora (Vandenberg) Blohm. Mary was one of three children, and was preceded in death by her sister Frances and her brother Norbert. She was a resident of Appleton until 1940 when she married John M. Van Toll in Detroit, Michigan on April 27. The couple returned to Appleton in 1956. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards.
She is survived by two sons: John W. Van Toll of Appleton and Donald J. (Jackie) Van Toll of Combined Locks; three granddaughters: Jodie (Keith) Huss of Kaukauna, Kristine (Michael) Wallner of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Tracy (Dan) Malsavage of Kimberly; there are two great-grandchildren: Seth Huss and Alexandra Malsavage. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 1996; and a grandson: James Van Toll.
The funeral liturgy for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Care Center for the care they gave to Mary. They were always there for her. Also, a thank you to Heartland Hospice for the comfort they provided in her last days.

Frances M. Weiland-Moudry
Frances died at 9:41 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Paul Elder Services, Kaukauna, with members of her loving family at her side. She died as she had lived - quietly, peacefully, without fuss. Her quick, easy wit and sparling green eyes will be missed. Frances will be remembered as a kind person, happy in everyday life and guided by faith.
She was born November 3, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Dora (Verhasselt) Green, and was raised on the family farm in Freedom.
Frances married Leo Weiland on December 1, 1945. Leo preceded her in death on March 17, 1972. She married Harry Moudry on August 13, 1980, who died on February 4, 2006.
Frances is survived by six children, David (Jackie) Weiland, Darboy; Bruce (fiancée Vicky Barke) Weiland, Shiocton; Mike (Pat) Weiland, Kimberly; Mary Weiland, Kaukauna; Kathy Weiland, Mill Creek, Washington and Dan Weiland, Freedom, and a step-daughter, Marlene (Edward) Hughes, Mission, Texas. She is also survived by two sisters, Verna Berken and Eleanor (Bud) Bowers; sister-in-law Germaine Green and brother-in-law Jim Van Vreede; 6 grandchildren, Brian Weiland, Jaimie Reider, Nicole Schultz, Renee Price, Katie Weiland and Tracy Boeing and 3 step-grandchildren, Tammy Gonzales, Kip Hughes and Mary Ellen Thomas.
Frances was preceded in death by four sisters Florence (Leo) Schmidt, Ester Van Vreede, Rosella (Orin) Kortz and Charlotte Green; five brothers Norbert (Harriet) Green, Bill (Lorraine) Green, Bob (Beady) Green, John Green and Vincent (Elaine) Green and brother-in-law Gerry Berken. She was also preceded in death by brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Bernard (Lorraine) Weiland, Louis (Grace) Weiland, Frank Weiland, Henry (Irene) Weiland, Edward Moudry, Arnold Moudry, Richard Moudry, Frances (George) Mertens, Mary (Harold) Fassbender, Agnes Weiland, Elizabeth (Chester) Appleton, Vi Process and Grace LeMense.
The funeral liturgy for Frances will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Holy Spirit/Holy Name Church, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Father Dave Pleier officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.

Rosella M. (Rosie) Kortz, age 88, of the Wisconsin Veterans Home, formerly of Freedom, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the veterans home. Rosie was born in the Town of Kaukauna on September 28, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Dora (Verhasselt) Green. On October 4, 1941, Rosie married Orin T. Kortz in Freedom and he preceded her in death on September 11, 1999. She worked on the farm for many years. Later she was employed at Golden Yolk until it closed and then at Monte Alverno Retreat Center. Rosie enjoyed being with her family and friends, ceramic painting, playing sheephead and going to Holy Grotto in Rudolph and other places with her son, Terry.
Rosie is survived by her children: Dorothy (Jerry) Haberland, Appleton; Janice (Bill) Farrell, Kaukauna; Jack Kortz, Wakefield, MI; Paul Kortz, Kaukauna; Gary (Theresa) Kortz, Kaukauna; Terry Kortz, Little Chute; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters: Frances Moudry; Verna Berkens; Eleanor (Bud) Bowers; sister-in-law, Germaine Green and brother-in-law, Jim VanVreede.

John J. Green Jr., 83, Freedom, died unexpectedly at home Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. He was born in Freedom, Wis., on March 11, 1926, to the late John and Dora (Verhasselt) Green. John married Germaine Diedrick on Nov. 27, 1956, at St. Nicholas Parish, Freedom.
An Army veteran, he belonged to the VFW Post 7692, Freedom, and Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Little Chute. As a member of St. Nicholas Parish, John served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. John retired from Thilmany Pulp & Paper Co. in 1989. He also drove for Swinkles Bussing.
John loved to go to his cabin on Berry Lake. He and Germaine vacationed in Florida each winter. He was an avid card player and enjoyed word-find puzzles. He also enjoyed walking, riding his bike and tinkering with things. John was loyal to the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Germaine; children, Randy (Vicky), Freedom; Shari (Mike) Greiner, Freedom; Jay (friend, Tien Pham), Tampa, Fla.; and Tammy (Bert) Lim, Whitefish Bay; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Kranski, Paige Green, Nicholas (Kristen), Aren and Heather (friend, Kyle Early) Greiner, Abby and Lydia Lim; brothers and sisters, Rosella Kortz, Verna Berken, Francis Moudry and Eleanor (Bud) Bowers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Van Vreede, Larry (Dolly) Diedrick and Helen Diedrick; godchildren, LeAnn, Nancy, Dan, Ken and Mike; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Eleanor Bowers, 84, Wrightstown, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 with her family by her side. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Eleanor was born March 10, 1932 in Freedom to the late John and Dora Green. She married Bud Bowers on August 27, 1953 in Freedom, WI.
She and her husband farmed all their life in Kaukauna, WI. She was an active member of St. Paul Parish, being active in the Martha Choir, Christian Mother's Society and the Auxiliary of the Post 436 Legion. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren up at the cottage. She also was an avid Brewers fan.
Together Eleanor and Bud raised 12 children: Russ (Lisa) Bowers, Keith (Judy) Bowers, Sue (Gary) Brochtrup, Carol (Dennis) Van Rossum, Jim (Sheila) Bowers, Alan (Laurie) Bowers, Mike (Laurie) Bowers, Mary (Rick) Vanden Wymelenberg, Ken (Judy Lynn) Bowers, Amy (Tony) Francis, Nancy (Mike) Francis and Jeff (Stephanie) Bowers. She is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, sister Verna Berkin, sister-in-law Germaine Green, brother-in-law Jim Van Vreede, Bud's family: Clarence Bowers, Bob (Roseann) Basten, Arlene Blair, Margaret Bowers, Ann Bowers and Mary Jane Bowers, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Orvell A. De Bruin, 92, of Seymour passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was born July 1, 1922 son of the late John Edward and Hattie (Green) De Bruin. On July 31, 1943 he was united in marriage to Rose Marye Mory. She preceded him in death January 30, 2012.
Orvell was a graduate of the of Seymour High School class of 1940. He farmed until his retirement and was a World War II Army Veteran. Orvell was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour. He was ordained May 16, 1981 to the Permanent Deaconate by Bishop Wycislo at the Cathedral in Green Bay. He served at St. John Catholic Church for many years.
Orvell was the Rural Life Director for Diocese, Diocesan Rural Life Grant Program, Advocate for Marriage Tribunal, Parish Council St. Johns for 30 years, Chaplain Knights of Columbus Seymour, Parish Trustee and Treasurer for 12 years, Seymour Area Clergy Association, he and his wife Rose Marye started St. Vincent De Paul Conference at St. Johns, County Committee Farmers Home Administration, American Legion, VFW and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. In 1991 he was named Seymour's Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

Mabel C. Wagner, age 85, of Appleton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, November 29, 2009. She was born in Seymour on November 29, 1924, daughter of the late John Edward and Hattie (Green) DeBruin. On May 1, 1948, Mabel was united in marriage to Lloyd Wagner. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1995. Mabel began her care-giving career at St. Elizabeth Hospital and then worked at Appleton Extended Care for 25 years as a CNA giving care and comfort to all with warmth and kindness. After retiring, she did volunteer work to help those in need.
Mabel is survived by her four children: Nancy (Andy) Gerl, Ken (Denise) Wagner, Linda (Steve) Wagner and George (Lorri) Wagner; eight grandchildren: James (Shelley) Wagner, Jarred Gerl, Bryan (Bridgette) Gerl, Andrea (Adam) Keller, Jim and Jenny Wagner, Jessica (Brian) Netzel and Brandon Wagner, and a great-grandchild, Hollie Netzel. Lucille T. Werth, 87 years, passed away November 6, 2016 at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She was born on April 27, 1929 in Seymour, Wisconsin to her loving parents Edward and Henrietta (Green) DeBruin. In her early years she was the cook for the hands on the family farm in Seymour. She met her husband Walter Dorn at the Cinderella Dance Hall. Together they raised seven children and started Wally Steak House in Charlesburg, WI where she was active in all areas of the business.
Lucille later married Jerry Werth, in Hawaii and opened the Prime Steer in Hilbert, WI with later locations opening in Kaukauna, WI and Green Bay, WI.
Lucille liked to travel, flying to Florida, Europe and Mexico were favorite trips. She enjoyed her Monday night off going to other supper clubs and swapping stories. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She will be missed by her children Donald (Kathryn) Dorn, Ronald (Ginny) Dorn, Randy (Debra) Dorn, Joseph (June) Dorn, Daniel (Julie) Dorn, Larry (Lola) Dorn and Sue (Dean) Meyer and her brother Ervin DeBruin. She is further survived by 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Henrietta DeBruin, her first husband Walter Dorn, her second husband Jerry Werth, grandsons Ross Dorn, Erik Dorn, and Bryan Dorn, siblings Lloyd (Margaret) DeBruin, Orville (Rosemary) DeBruin and Mabel (Lloyd) Wagner and sister-in-law Millie DeBruin.
A Memorial Service for Lucille will be on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 11 am at The Funeral Home. Private inurnment Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday, at the Funeral Home, from 9 am until time of Service.

Joseph H. "Joe" Van Hoof, 88, Hollandtown, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 11, 2008. Joe was born March 2, 1920, in Freedom, the son of John "Jack" and Rose (Green) Van Hoof. He attended the Kaukauna Trade School where he gained knowledge in machine tool and die making, engineering and planning. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy at Great Lakes, Ill. Joe was united in marriage to Catherine W. "Katie" School at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton, on Oct. 16, 1954. She survives. Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed with Brillion Iron Works for over 40 years as their in-house sales coordinator. He was a member of the American Foundrymens' Society.
Joe and Katie moved in 1954 to be a part of the storybook community of Hollandtown. They were long-time parishioners of St. Francis Catholic Church and Joe was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member and secretary for the Hollandtown Sanitary Planning District since its inception. Joe was an absolute gun advocate. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid shooter. Each year the citizens of Hollandtown gather to participate in their annual Schut and Joe would intentionally avoid winning the tourney. He also took pride in the restoration of muzzleloaders. Joe was a voracious reader and a great historian and his family and friends will miss his precious insights.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine "Katie"; his children, Dennis (Jean) Van Hoof and their two children, Mike and Katie, Sheboygan; Mary Borree and her son, Max, Point Pleasant, N.J.; Jim Van Hoof and his children, Hannah and Joe, Hollandtown; Sue (Dan) Voet and their children, Jack and Mary, Kaukauna; and Joan Van Hoof, Menasha; three sisters and a brother, Lillian (Tony) Van Wychen, Kaukauna; Don Van Hoof, Kaukauna; Ann DeCoster, Little Chute; and Marian Ragen, Kaukauna; two sisters-in-law, Liz Van Hoof, Little Chute; and Grace School, Appleton. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Norbert; and brothers-in-law, Larry DeCoster and Ronald "Red" Ragen.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at ST. KATHERINE DREXEL CATHOLIC CHURCH, St. Francis Site, 433 CTH CE, Hollandtown, with Fr. Marty Fox as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the church until the time of the mass.
A memorial fund is being established in his name.

Donald M. Van Hoof, Kaukauna, age 84, died Thursday April 1, 2010, at St. Paul Home. He was born February 19, 1926, in Kaukauna to the late John and Rose (Green) Van Hoof. Norb Van Hoof, Kaukauna, age 76, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. Norb was born in Kaukauna on August 19, 1931, son of the late John and Rose (Green) Van Hoof. On August 24, 1954, he married the former Elizabeth Ambrosius at St. Boniface Church in De Pere. Three years prior to their marriage, Norb had purchased the family farm from his father. Together, he and Liz farmed until 1988. During those years, his herds won many awards. In 1988, the couple moved into Kaukauna. Norb continued to be active in the farming industry by working as a sales representative for various feed mills in the area. Several times, his sales records made him a member of the "500 Bushel Club" where one of the perks was travel. He and Liz wore out three passports over the years, traveling the world over. Norb will be remembered by all as having a quick wit and always having a joke to share. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed golf, playing cards, snowmobiling, spending time up north with family and friends, and traveling. Some of his fondest memories came from the many breakfasts and "important meetings" that were held at the D & G Restaurant in Greenleaf.
Norb is survived by his wife, Liz Van Hoof, Kaukauna; three children: Terry (Chris) Van Hoof, Freedom, and their daughters Ashley, Alisha, and Amanda; Patricia (John) Bauernfeind of Stevens Point and their children Nichole and Conner; and Steve Van Hoof of Green Bay; two brothers: Joe (Cathy) Van Hoof of Hollandtown and Don Van Hoof of Kaukauna; three sisters: Lillian (Tony) Van Wychen of Kaukauna, Ann DeCoster of Little Chute, and Marian Ragen of Kaukauna. He is also survived by Liz's brothers and sisters and their spouses: Betty Ambrosius of De Pere, Ida (John) Bildings of De Pere, George Ambrosius of De Pere, Toots (Bill) Lancelle of De Pere, and Bernie Ambrosius of Kaukauna.
Norb was preceded in death by his parents, by Liz's parents George and Mathilda (Minten) Ambrosius, brothers-in-law Larry DeCoster, Red Ragen, Ted Ambrosius and John Van Wychen and sisters-in-law Hattie Van Wychen and Doris Ambrosius.

Melvin A. Green, 93, Kaukauna, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. He was born December 17, 1919 in Kaukauna, WI, son of the late Joseph and Ardene (Van Hoof) Green. Melvin married Loretta Van Rossum on June 1, 1944 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. He farmed for 30 years on his own dairy farm, and then worked at Kaukauna Club Cheese for ten years. Melvin was a member of the American Dairy Association, and he enjoyed camping, biking, woodworking, square dancing, and bowling. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown, where he was an usher.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 69 years, Loretta, Kaukauna; ten children: Joni VandeHey, Appleton, Kenneth (Kathy) Green, Kaukauna, Sherry Green, Tucson, AZ, Glenn (Kathy) Green, Appleton, Peggy (Tom) Galloway, De Pere, Linda (Chuck) Roehrborn, Kaukauna, Wendy (Jay) Kassera, Hortonville, Wayne (Carolyn) Green, Greenleaf, Kevin Green, Darboy, Dori (Jim) Villenauve, Green Bay; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marion (Merle) Van Handel, Green Bay, and Agnes Nolan of De Pere; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes B. Nolan, 90, Freedom, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 23, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born October 27, 1926 to the late Joseph and Ardene (Van Hoof) Green. On February 28, 1945 she was united in marriage to Robert F. Nolan at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna.
Along with Bob, she worked daily on the family farm and raising their children. Agnes was an active member of Immaculate Conception where she had been a CCD teacher as well as a communion distributor at church and to shut ins.
Agnes enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her flower bed. She loved to paint and listen to country music.
Agnes is survived by her children: Jim (Lee) Nolan, Patricia (John Nieft) Nolan, Joe (Sandy) Nolan, Theresa (Dave) Vandenberg, and Michael (Linda) Nolan; her grandchildren: Brandie (Chris), Tammi (Shaun), Matthew, Alexander (Loren), Christopher (Alexandra), Amanda (Tim), Josh (Julie), Nichole (Jason), Megan, and Adam; great grandchildren: Emma, Charlise, Claire, Delilah, Beckett, Fletcher, Lachlan, Brady, Blake, Brett, Harper, Caeden, Sawyer, and Aubrey. Arthur A. Meulemans, Kaukauna, age 84, died Monday May 28, 2012 at Cherry Meadows Hospice with his family at his side. He was born to the late John and Anna (Greene) Meulemans on December 2, 1927 in the town of Kaukauna. Art married Marcella Beyer on September 23, 1976 at St. Paul Church in Wrightstown. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319. Art enjoyed golfing, cribbage and raised poultry. His passion was sports and he was known to say, "There's always a good game on somewhere." Art was employed as a mechanic at Kobussen Bus for 31 years until his retirement in 1991.
Art is survived by his wife Marcella; daughter Jenny Rice, Freedom; grandchildren: Matthew (Jamie) Rice and Amanda (Amro) Ali Taha; great-grandchildren: Michael and Jenna; sister Dorothy (Mark) Buchinger; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerald Van Asten, Joyce Van Roy, Jackie Jones, Agnes Karner, Cathy (Roger) Erdmann, Pete (Barb), Charles (Rosemary), Alex, Edward (Judy), Janice and Doris Beyer. Dorothy Buchinger, formerly of Kaukauna and Kimberly, age 87 died peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Heritage. She was born July 25, 1930 in Wrightstown, WI the daughter of the late John and Ann (Green) Meulemans. On September 19, 1950 Dorothy married Mark Buchinger. The couple farmed in the Sherwood area for nearly 50 years before retiring to Kimberly in 1993. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, Friday night fish frys, reminiscing with family, friends and neighbors, snowmobiling and bowling. She was very active with Sacred Heart Sherwood Ladies Society and Sherwood Senior Citizens.

Charles "Charlie" J. Welter, 84, De Pere, died Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born on May 1, 1932, to George F. and Marcella (Verhasselt) Welter in Hobart, IN. His mother, Marcella preceded him in death when he was 12 years old. His stepmother was his aunt, Ruth. Charlie spent his summers after his mother's death with his Aunt Collette and Uncle Louie Bougie on their farm in Freedom, WI. For this reason, he viewed them as a second mother and father. Charlie moved to Chicago in second grade, and graduated from Fenwick High School in 1950. He settled in Green Bay, WI after he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Charlie married Elaine Lembcke on April 23, 1955, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Isaar, WI.

Charlie ran his own business, C. J. Welter Remodeling for over 25 years. He then was employed by the Green Bay Correctional Institute as head of maintenance until retiring in 1995. Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Green Bay where he was involved with the Athletic Club and The Holy Name Society. Later Charlie retired to Suring and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and sang in the choir. He loved being with his family and going to the cottage in God's country at the "Paddle Inn" on the Oconto River. He enjoyed sailing, white water canoeing, bicycling, camping, cross-country skiing, and was an active member of AARP.

Mary C. Thede, 81, Sturgeon Bay, left her earthly home peacefully on Saturday morning (Oct. 21, 2006), at the Dorchester Health & Rehabilitation Center in Sturgeon Bay. She was born on May 8, 1925, in Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Jerome and Josie (Bries) Verhasselt. Mary was a 1942 graduate of Wrightstown High School. On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Wayne Henry Thede at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Wrightstown and shared 60 years together. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee until 1990 and then moved to Bella Visa, Ark., until 2001 at which time they returned to Sturgeon Bay where Mary worked as a waitress and as a seamstress in her home. She was well known for her charitable work as well as her talent for her cooking and baking. Her pecan rolls were enjoyed by hundreds of people. Mary enjoyed crafts, sewing, baking and writing poems. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Mary was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans association. John "Jack" Verhasselt, 86, Wrightstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 05, 2014. He was born September 4, 1927, in Wrightstown to the late Jerome and Josephine (Bries) Verhasselt. Jack graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. On November 24, 1964, Jack married the love of his life, Millie Schroeder. They celebrated 28 years together before Millie passed away on October 22, 1993.
Jack was a mason by trade. He was a member of the Wisconsin Masons Union and a Life Member of the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades Int'l. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 436. Jack's hobbies included many home building projects and maintenance work on his property.
Survivors include his sisters, Joan Eckert, Rita (Dan) Shebel, and Zita Wessa; sisters-in-law, Loretta and Helen Verhasselt and Mary Ann Geske; brother-in-law, Wayne Thede; special friend, Evelyn Baus; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Steve Lamers.

Marvin J. Bougie, 85, of De Pere, died Saturday afternoon, June 29, 2013 at an Appleton hospital. The son of the late Louis W. and Collette (Verhasselt) Bougie was born September 9, 1927 in the Town of Lawrence. He married Joyce Lamers on November 5, 1953 at St. John's Church in Little Chute. Marvin served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.
Marvin was a dairy farmer in the Town of Oneida. Marv enjoyed softball, bowling, Packer games, and card games of all sorts, especially Sheepshead. He enjoyed staying busy making wood and helping out others. Marv was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6464 and the AmVets. He was a wonderful family man and especially enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Louis J. Bougie, 84, of De Pere died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Appleton. He was born on July 25, 1929 to Louis W. and Collette (Verhasselt) Bougie in the Town of Lawrence. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. Louis was a lifelong employee of Kimberly Clark/Midtec Paper Co., and the owner of Wildwood Gamebird Farm in rural West De Pere. He enjoyed playing Sheepshead with family and friends and watching the Green Bay Packers (as a Shareholder). He enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. He spent his last 4 years living at Carolina Manor Assisted Living in Appleton where he enjoyed spending time with his special friend, Irmgarde Deffert.

Joy Mary Bougie entered eternal life on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Rennes Rehab Center, De Pere. She was born on February 13, 1931 to Louis W. and Colette (Verhasselt) Bougie, at home, in the town of Lawrence, WI. Joy graduated from Old Glory Elementary school in 1944, Nicolet High School, De Pere in 1948 and Green Bay Badger Business College in 1949 where she acquired her skill in writing shorthand. That skill was revered when she was secretary at Bark River Culvert and Equipment Company from 1950-57 and her most loved position as secretary to the principal at Premontre High School/Notre Dame Academy from 1958-1995. Joy received numerous awards throughout those years, but on May 4, 2016 she received her most prestigious award - the Founders Award at the Notre Dame de la Baie Academy President's Dinner. She had a great appreciation for the Norbertine Fathers.
Joy and her sister, Nancy, traveled to all 50 states and had numerous European trips. She was an avid card player and held secretarial positions in her bowling and golf leagues. She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, De Pere, where she continued to use her shorthand skills on various committees - especially Blaise J Peters Scholarship - and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Tuesday night Faith Sharing Small Group. She enjoyed reading and loved spending time with family and friends. When recently asked what she would like to be remembered for she quipped: "As a caring, hospitable, cheerful person always willing to help people in need." And, indeed, that is how we will always remember her.
Joy is survived by her brother, John (Pat) Bougie, Freedom, her 2 sisters, Donna (Ed) Geurts, Mequon and Karen (Ray) Brown, De Pere, her sister-in-law, Joyce Bougie, her godchildren, David Bougie and Sally Brown Robertson, as well as many close nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Marvin Bougie, Louis J. Bougie, and her beloved sister, Nancy Bougie.
Visitation will be Friday, February 24 at Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere beginning at 4:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00. On Saturday, February 25, visitation will continue at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish, De Pere beginning at 9:00 A.M. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be at a later date in Sniderville Cemetery.

Nancy Ann Bougie, 74, of De Pere, died Thursday evening, February 21, 2008 at a local hospital. The daughter of the late Louis and Colette (Verhasselt) Bougie was born September 10, 1933 in the Town of Oneida. Nancy was well educated, graduating from Nicolet High School in 1952, and then continued to better herself until she received her Masters of Library Science in 1972. Nancy taught at Old Glory School, High View School and was a librarian at the Ashwaubenon Public Schools until her retirement in 1994. She was an avid member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and a board member of the Brown County Civic Museum Association.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Marvin (Joyce) Bougie, Louis J. Bougie, Joy Bougie, De Pere; John (Patricia) Bougie, Freedom; Donna (Ed) Geurts, Mequon; Karen (Ray) Brown, De Pere; and special cousin Charles (Elaine) Welter, De Pere; Her godchildren, Suzanne Carman, Laura Lamb, and Gail Kane. She was a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Nancy was also survived by her English Pen Pal of fifty years, Joan Abel, as well as many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Colette.

Betty Van Zeeland, Kaukauna,79, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Darboy Living Center following a four-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born in Kaukauna on June 29, 1929, daughter of the late Isadore and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. She graduated from the Kaukauna High School, and on October 14, 1950, married Richard Van Zeeland. For over thirty years Betty worked as the bookkeeper for Van Zeeland Oil and Heating, and in her retirement also worked part-time in the bakery at Larry's Piggly Wiggly. She enjoyed travel and bus tours with Rich, time at the cottage near Lakewood with family and friends, attending her grandsons' football and basketball games, making quilts with her sister and selling them at the Lakewood craft sale, collecting dolls, shot glasses, bells, and coins, and loved to listen to country western music.
She is survived by her husband, Rich Van Zeeland, Kaukauna; a son, Steve (Deb) Van Zeeland, Appleton; a daughter, Linda VanDeHey, Kaukauna; three grandchildren, Matthew Van Zeeland and his special friend Amy, Adam Van Zeeland, and Stephanie (Arvid) Skrede and their daughter Alexis. Leonard J. "Len" Verhasselt
A good man, loving husband, and exceptional father has passed away unexpectedly. Leonard J. "Len" Verhasselt, age 83, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014, with his family at his side at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born March 9, 1931, in Kaukauna, son of the late Isadore and Josephine (Muelemans) Verhasselt.
Our Dad grew up on the home farm in Kaukauna and was the second oldest of twelve children. He worked at Thilmany's in Kaukauna, and served in the U.S. Army. He gained an apprenticeship and became a Sheetmetal Worker from 1971 until his retirement in 1994. During that time he was a part owner of Fox Cities Sheetmetal, Appleton. Dad was also an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom.
Len married Elizabeth Daverveld of Kaukauna on October 29, 1959, and they enjoyed 35 years together until her death in 1994. Leonard is survived by his four children: Ann (Tom) Staeven, Seymour, Sue (Terrill) Knaack, Beaver Dam, Carl Verhasselt, Anamosa, Iowa, and Jean Verhasselt, Neenah.
Leonard married Joyce Thompson on June 21, 1997 and they enjoyed 17 years of marriage. He gained a wonderful extended family. In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by her children: Jeanne (Richard) Newport, Berlin, Daniel (Judith) Thompson, Sturgeon Bay, and William (Margaret) Thompson, Sherwood. "Grandpa Len" will be greatly missed by five step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by siblings: Jim (Marilyn), Joe (Joanne), Earl (Dolly), Fr. Dave and Tom (Terri) Verhasselt, Rose (Gerry) Vande Burgt, Dorothy (Ted) Vosters, and Pat (Bill) Brockman; sister-in-law, Evelyn Verhasselt; brothers-in-law: Richard Van Zeeland and Clayton Vande Burgt. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Len was preceded in death by his sisters: Betty Van Zeeland and Agnes Vande Burgt; a brother, Robert Verhasselt and infant twins.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 5, 2014, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute, and again on Friday directly at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom. A memorial has been established in Len's name.
Even though he did not graduate from high school, our dad became a successful business owner and craftsman. He valued education and wanted his children to be successful so he encouraged and supported us as we each achieved a college education. He also passed on his love of the outdoors and nature to each of his children. He was a quiet and patient man, a great role model. We will miss him.

Rosemary C. Vande Burgt, age 84, formerly of Little Chute, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, October 28, 2017. She was born on April 13, 1933, daughter of the late Isadore and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. On September 20, 1955, she married Gerald Vande Burgt at Holy Cross Church, Kaukauna.
When she was younger, Rose helped raise her siblings after her mother passed away. She then became a wonderful wife and homemaker, but did work for 22 years at Tecumseh Products. Rose enjoyed traveling, flea markets and country music. She loved her family more than anything, spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren.

She was born in Kaukauna on May 5, 1937 to the late Antone and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. Agnes married Clayton Vande Burgt on August 22, 1959 at Holy Cross Parish. She worked at Riverview Sanitorium and retired from Parkview Health Center in Oshkosh in 1999. Agnes enjoyed sewing and making crafts, traveling and spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.
Agnes is survived by her husband of 54 years, Clayton; children: Dan (Diane) Vande Burgt, Doris (Jeff) Vandenberg and Diane (Tom) Vande Burgt; grandchildren: Carrie (Tom) Krause, Jeffrey and Antone Vandenberg, Thomas Camron, Belton and Kevin Johnson, Destiny and Clayton Vande Burgt; twin great grandsons: Ethan and Evan Krause and Elliot Johnson; siblings: Len (Joyce), Jim (Marilyn), Joe (Joanne), Earl (Dolly), Fr. Dave and Tom(Terri) Verhasselt, Rose (Gerry) Vande Burgt, Dorothy (Ted) Vosters and Pat (Bill) Brockman; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Evie Verhasselt, Rose Seegers, Joanne (Louis) Bellin, Gloria (Merle) Verhagen and Duane (Shirley) Vande Burgt. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Robert J. Verhasselt, 69, Kaukauna, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born July 16, 1942, in Kaukauna, son of the late Isidore and Josephine (Meulemans) Verhasselt. After his service in the U.S. Army, he married the former Evelyn Biese on May 12, 1964, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. The couple farmed in Freedom for 37 years.
Bob was proud of his John Deere Tractors and his farming achievements, especially being awarded Farm Family of the Year in Wisconsin in 1972. He loved fixing things, spending time with his family and fishing in his backyard pond. Bob loved his family above all else. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and VFW Post 7692 of Freedom.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Evelyn, Freedom; five daughters, Carol (Darrel) Vosters and their children, Nick, Katie, Luke, Matt and Jake; Julie (Gene) Wollersheim and their children, Lexi and Max; Amy (Bart) Ambos; Kim (Jim) Hofacker and their children, Michelle, Allison and Hayden; Diane (Gary) Mayse and their children, Elijah, Hannah and Silas; three sons, Mark (Sandy) Verhasselt and their children, Kyle, Ashley, Stephanie and Adam; Dan (Vicki) Verhasselt and their children, Noah and Danny; and Dale (Alyssa) Verhasselt and their children, Macy and Stella; six brothers, Len (Joyce), Jim (Marilyn), Joe (JoAnne), Earl (Delores), Fr. He was preceded in death by infant twin sisters; his parents; a sister, Betty (Rich) Van Zeeland; and his wife's parents, Frank and Clara Biese.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Friends and family will be received at church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Complete Military Rites will be conducted by Freedom VWF Post 7692 immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Marian B. Lamers, age 81, of Appleton, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her home. Marian was born March 30, 1927, in Little Chute, to the late John and Blanche (Verstagen) Vandenberg. On August 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ivo Lamers at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. The couple enjoyed 29 years together until his death in 1979.
Marian worked at Gimbels, Marshal Fields, Younkers - formerly known as H. C. Pranges both downtown Appleton and at the Fox River Mall. She was a faithful member at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Appleton where she was active in the Pro Life Committee, Bible Study Group, Christian Women's Association, the Monday Night Prayer Group, and helped out at the church library.
Marian is survived by her two daughters: Mary Kay (Mark) Ziemer, Grand Chute, and their children John, Michael, and Jenna; and Sandy (Larry) Friemuth, Appleton, and their children Grant, Laura, and Jaclyn; two sons: Gary Lamers, Appleton, and his daughter Sari (Jim) Heller, and their daughter Alivia; and Tim (Paula) Lamers, Appleton, and their children Zack and Katelyn; her brother, Marvin (Dee) Vandenberg, Arizona. She is further survived by other relatives and special friends.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Father Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. directly at the church on Friday until the time of service. Thomas J. Vandenberg, Combined Locks, age 80, died Thursday July 30, 2015 at his home. He was born in Combined Locks on March 7, 1935 to the late Joseph and Gertrude Vandenberg. Thomas married Phyllis Wyngaard on September 19, 1956 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. Thomas retired from Thrivent (AAL) where he worked as a building manager. Prior to that, he worked as an electrician at Kimberly Clark. Thomas was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family at the cottage.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis; four children: Jeff (Jackie) of Little Chute; Dan (Pam), Boulder, CO; Mary (Dennis) Vandenbergen, Kaukauna; and Tim (Amy), West De Pere; grandchildren: Collette, Brian, Tony and Ethan Vandenberg and Rachel (Justin) Hanks; and great grandchildren: Devon Vandenberg and Aubree Wolfinger. Gene I. Vandenberg, Appleton, 65, died on Sunday February 13, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born April 20, 1945, in Neenah to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. He attended Kimberly High School, graduating in 1963. Gene served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1964-1968 as a 3rd class fire control technician aboard the USS Chipola and USS Ponchatoula. After the service he worked for G&L and other companies as a machinist. Gene travelled the U.S., Europe and Asia to help set up paper machines. He was involved with BMW Motorcycles and belonged to Badger Motorcyclists of Wisconsin and BMWMOA. In 1975, he bought a BMW and worked for the BMW dealer in Marquette, MI. Gene got out of biking for awhile. At this time he moved back to Appleton and worked for Valmet for a number of years. He enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing and golf. In 2003, Gene was diagnosed with cancer and had major back surgery. Back into biking 2004 he rode solo and with friends to National Rallies in Washington, Ohio, Vermont, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Tennessee and Oregon. His favorite rally was the Finger Lakes Rally in New York. He also helped lots of fellow BMW riders with HID and LED lights for their bikes.
Gene is survived by his son, Joe (Marie), Menasha; grandchildren Austin and Savannah May; brothers: Rick (Sandy) and Mike (Vicki); and sisters: Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer. He is further survived by step brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Patrick W. "Rick" Vandenberg, Little Chute, age 68, died Monday January 5, 2015 at Cherry Meadows. He was born in Neenah on October 23, 1946 to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. Rick was a talented high school athlete and had the opportunity to play semi-pro baseball. His father advised him against it, telling him to get a real job because there was no money to be made playing ball! His love for athletics remained through his entire life.
Rick served in the U.S. Navy for two tours during the Vietnam War on the USS Chipola. His home port was Pearl Harbor.
Rick married Sandy Schinke on April 4, 1970 in Chicago, IL. He retired from U.S. Venture (Design Air) in 2013. Rick enjoyed racing, following the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and trips to the casino.
Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy; and son Todd (Samantha) of Appleton. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first grandchild in two weeks. He is further survived by his sisters: Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer; sisters and brothers-in-law: Vicki Vandenberg, Ernie (Rosie) Schinke and Gary (Margo) Schinke; good friend Neal Isbel; dog Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Michael G. Vandenberg, 61, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center. Mike was born July 6, 1949, to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. After graduating from Kimberly High School, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1967-1971, during which time he developed a love of the coast, particularly Cape Henry.
On April 8, 1978, he married Vicki Thiel and they had two beautiful children together. Mike retired from Kimberly-Clark in 2006 after 24 years as a machine tender.
He was a loving husband and father who provided his family with everything they ever needed in life. An extremely intelligent man, he was an excellent teacher to his children. He had a gift for drawing and woodworking and a passion for sailing. Every summer he took his family to vacation in cottages all over northern Wisconsin and made some great memories.
Mike will be sorely missed by his wife, Vicki; his daughter, Beth (Brandon) Sanderfoot, Combined Locks; his son, Michael (fiancee, Mackenzie) Vandenberg, Appleton; and his three grandsons, whom he adored, Caleb, Colin and Cooper Sanderfoot. He is further survived by his brother, Rick (Sandy) Vandenberg; two sisters, Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer; his father-in-law, Wayne Thiel; a brother-in-law, Chuck (Dorie) Thiel; a sister-in-law, Bobbie (Dennis) Gerrits; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Vandenberg; his mother-in-law, Jeanne Thiel; and his dog and best buddy, Mollie.
