    Obituary:
    Gordon "Gordy" Vander Wyst, of Appleton, passed away Thursday morning, October 17, 2013, following a brief stay at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
    He was born on April 15, 1928, in Little Chute and was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Hattie (Sanderfoot) Vander Wyst. He married Emily Lamers on September 1, 1951, in Wrightstown. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Gordy was a U.S. Marine veteran and served from 1946 to 1948 performing guard duty in China. He then worked at Fox Tractor Company for 38 years as a machinist. Gordy served as the first union president for Local 1335 UAW-Fox Tractor from 1965 until 1971. He then worked for Lawrence University as a custodian and retired in 1991.
    Gordy and Emily were charter members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where they were both very active and faithful parishioners. Gordy served as an usher, bingo worker, and was always eager to help where needed. He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed bowling and woodworking, and loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.
    Survivors include his loving wife, Emily; their children: Lyle (Donna) Vander Wyst, Lucina (Dalton) Korth, Loraine (Craig) Lubinski, Leo (Wanda) Vander Wyst, Lavern (Michael) Speel, Louis (Carol) Vander Wyst, Leonard (Alice) Vander Wyst, Linus (Kelly) Vander Wyst, and Luke (Amy) Vander Wyst; there are 27 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; his sister, Virginia (Ivan) Stiltjes; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Nackers, Rose (Francis) Schmidt, Frances (Bob) Haen, Ellen Lamers, Helen Lamers, and Marilyn Lamers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by sisters Ruth (Paul) Waldron, Rose (Hank) Kuhn, and Jean (Ted) Feldkamp; and in-laws: Gordon (Mary) Lamers, Lyle (Helen) Lamers, Ruby (Robert) Turriff Van Handel, Jane (Sylvester) Vosters, Paul Lamers, Gene (Delia) Lamers, and Marcel Lamers.
    The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Military honors will take place at the church after mass. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday until the hour of mass at the church. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Gordy's honor is being established.
