    Mary A. (Nelessen) Kessler, 95, formerly of Kimberly, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was born October 28, 1917, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Vander Heiden) Van Lanen. On May 30, 1940, Mary married Norbert Nelessen, and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1970. Then on November 24, 1976, she married Robert Kessler, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2007. Mary was active in many different organizations including the Pierre Post #2778 of Appleton, a life member of the DAV Auxiliary of Appleton, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit to the William Verhagen Post #60 of Kimberly and she was also a member of the Fox Cities Chapter of the military order of the Cooties #29 of Appleton.
    Mary is lovingly survived by her children: Cletus (Dianne) Nelessen, Donna Nelessen, Luella (Tom) Opsteen, Sharon (Charles) Mikkelsen, Cindy (Paul) Sanders and Carla (Paul) German; 13 grandchildren: Jeff (Michele) Nelessen, Brad (Katie) Van Cuyk, Ryun (Denise) Van Cuyk, Tara (Jon) Van Dyke, Aaron (Karmen) Opsteen, Crystal Lehmann, Ed Mc Amoil, Dawn Mc Amoil, Sara Mikkelsen, Ben Sanders, Jesse Sanders, Hannah German and Leah German; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sister Anne Jude Van Lanen, CSA; a brother, Bill (Mary Lou) Van Lanen; sisters and brothers-in-law: Dolores (Gene) Van Camp, Helen Diedrich, Dolly (Dale) Meulemans, Art Vosters, Ceil, Bernice, Marian and Rita Nelessen. She is also survived by Bob's children: Pete, Mildred and Mark (Vicki) Kessler, his 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
    Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a daughter, Sister Kathleen Nelessen, CSA; a granddaughter and her husband, Anne and Terry Reichardt; a step-son, Paul Kessler; a sister, Colette and five brothers: Reuben, Ralph, Norbert, Francis and Eugene; and many brothers and sisters-in-laws and other family members and friends.
    Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Interment will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery, Kimberly. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
    Mary's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Francis Terrace, for your love and the wonderful care you gave to their mother.

    Sister Kathy entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on September 10, 1964 and made Profession of vows on August 15, 1967. She graduated from St Agnes School of Nursing in December 1968 and ministered as a nurse for the next twenty-two years at various locations including: St. Agnes Hospital, St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, St John Rest Home in Victoria Kansas, St Anthony Hospital, Hospice of the Plains and at St. John Rest Home in Hays Kansas, and the Chippewa Health Center in Lac du Flambeau, WI.

    Obituary:
    Sister Kathleen Catherine Nelessen, CSA died peacefully at Nazareth Court and Center on Friday April 6th 2012 at 3:45 PM. Sister Kathy was born at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton WI on November 29, 1941. She was the first of seven children born to Mary (Van Lanen) Nelessen and Norbert A. Nelessen.
    Sister Kathy entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on September 10, 1964 and made Profession of vows on August 15, 1967. She graduated from St Agnes School of Nursing in December 1968 and ministered as a nurse for the next twenty-two years at various locations including: St. Agnes Hospital, St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, St John Rest Home in Victoria Kansas, St Anthony Hospital, Hospice of the Plains and at St. John Rest Home in Hays Kansas, and the Chippewa Health Center in Lac du Flambeau, WI.
    She served in leadership as a Regional Coordinator for eight years and ministered at St. Francis Home in Spiritual Care for the last five years. For twenty four and a half years, Sister Kathy struggled with cancer yet still continued to minister to those in need with joy and compassion.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert Nelessen, her step father Robert Kessler, and her niece Anne and husband Terry.
    Sister Kathy is survived by her mother Mary, brother Cletus and wife Dianne, her sisters Donna Nelessen, Luella and husband Tom Opsteen, Sharon and husband Chuck Mikkelsen, Cindy and husband Paul Sanders, Carla and husband Paul German and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her Aunt, Sister Anne Jude Van Lanen CSA, and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
    Visitation will be from 2:30 pm until 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:00 pm on Monday April 9th at St Francis Home Chapel, Fond du Lac, WI.
    On Tuesday April 10th, visitation is from 10:00 am to 11:15 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI. A luncheon will follow.
    Memorials may be directed to the Sisters of St. Agnes Development Office, 320 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
    The Sisters of St. Agnes are grateful to the nurses and staff at Nazareth Court and Center and Hospice Hope for their care of Sister Kathy.
    Zacherl Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Agnes.
