Obituary:
Colleen Ann "Kelly" Derus Elert, age 62, of Vancouver, Washington, formerly of Oshkosh, died suddenly on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at her home in Vancouver. She was born on November 15, 1951, in Appleton, to the late Robert and Bette (Chadek) Derus. Kelly was raised in Kaukauna and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1970. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kelly was employed by the Wisconsin State Prison System for over 20 years, retiring from the Oshkosh Correctional Center in September 2011. Kelly was a very gifted artist; most recently producing beautiful stained glass pieces. She was also a talented cook.
Kelly is survived by two sons, Aaron (Kara) Tomason and their children, Seth, Avery, and Ethan (due in April), of Patuxent River, Maryland; and Sean Tomason (Chelsea Donoghue) of Hartford, Wisconsin. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Jeffrey (Melissa) Tomason of Raymond, Washington and their children, Rory, Shelby, and Logan, and Janelle Tomason (David Schwarzkopf) and their children, Derick, Brenden, Kayla, Tyhiya, and Tyler, of Bend, Oregon. Kelly is also survived by her siblings, Mike Derus (Christine Kindler) Kaukauna; Jean (John) Abendroth, Shawano; Barb Robertson (Ken Lemberger) Oshkosh; Brian (Tammie Jo Berg) Derus, Iola; and Rob Derus, Madison. She is further survived by five nephews, Jim (Kelly) Vander Linden, Ryan Braun, Joe Derus, Kyle Derus, Dan Robertson, and one niece, Ashley Derus; grandnieces and nephews, Lucas and Vanessa Hohn, Connor, Kaitlyn, and Evan Vander Linden and other relatives and friends including her very special friend, Janet Sandefur (Jay Snell) of Vancouver. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has occurred and there will be a memorial service at a later date in Oshkosh. The Evergreen Staples Funeral Home of Vancouver assisted the family.
