    A Fitting Farewell
    Monument will honor soldier proclaimed missing in 1945
    A ceremony Friday in Stanley will give honor to a soldier who died in combat and was never found more than 60 years ago.
    A Military Bronze Plaque will be dedicated in honor of Stanley native Norbert G. Van Domelen at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19 near the current veterans memorials at Soo Line Park at the corner of First Avenue and Broadway Street.
    State Seen Dave Zien will attend the event, along with area veterans, other local lawmakers and officials, as well as Miss Stanley Chelsey Natzke. The dignitaries will be joined by Rolling Thunder, a nonprofit Prisoner of War/Missing in Action organization. Rolling Thunder has chapters throughout the United States and abroad dedicated to honored MIA's.
    United States Army Private First Class Norbert Van Domelen was declared Missing in Action on Dec. 23, 1942 while fighting in the Pacific Theater in World War ll. He was serving in New Guinea at the time. His name was memorialized on Dec. 13, 1945 on the Tablets of the Missing at Manilla American Cemetery.
    He was the son of Peter and Christine Van Domelen, and he was born on March 22, 1918 in Stanley, Wi.
    Van Domelen entered the service with the U.S. Army, 107th Quartermaster Battalion, 32nd Infantry Division of Wisconsin.
    He was honored with the Purple Heart for his bravery while in the line of duty.
